Western Beef

Decent meat section with good prices but they NEVER have enough registers open. They have 10 of them and you’re lucky if there are 2 open.

I wish I could take stars away. This place is the worst. It’s run down in appearance and that’s it’s second best attribute. The main attribute is that your can find good deals here. Bakery goods are always fresh. Customer service doesn’t exist here. You ask someone for help, they hand you off to someone else who in turn does the same. That’s if they want to acknowledge you. There’s never enough registers open even though they have ten lanes. I guess it’s because they never hire enough front end staff. I cannot imagine how this place has survived but it’s now the only «supermarket» within walking distance of the business hub of Mineola so it’s only convenient because of that.

Not sure if there is new management or they are just making some changes but western beef is better than ever. They have added a lot Of new products and have Improved on the quality. They continue to provide great prices and a variety of products. The employees also have a more respectful and kind demeanor. I used to not like going here but with these new changes, western beef is one of my favorite neighborhood supermarkets.

Tried Western Beef in Mineola today for the first time, and last time! I got what they called filet mignon, opened it up, and it smelled like death. I mean I had to turn the A/​C up full blast and throw it into a bag, and then put it outside my house. The stench filled up the whole first floor of my house. It was rancid. Would never ever purchase meat here again. I Called and they told me I had to bring the meat back with the receipt. Sealed it in two bags, so it wouldn’t infect my car. I brought the meat back to them, and they gave me a quick refund, no problem.

Western Beef is the place to go when you’re looking to save some money on purchases of large quantities of meat. All their meats (in the GIANT walk in refrigerator) are available in bulk and their butchers will trim them down to [your specific] size (at no extra cost, of course.) A little tip in the jar goes a long way.
They sell Boars Head meats and cheese as well as their own brands at the deli counter at competitive pricing. Right next to the Deli are their homemade breads which are excellent. The have a big produce area with many hard to find fruits and vegetables, it’s nice but I have never been overly impressed with the quality. The service team throughout the store is very friendly, but most speak only Spanish (which I can’t.). When I find someone who understands what I am looking for they have never hesitated to bring me right to the area.
They will not replace a Stop & Shop or Waldbaums but it’s convenient and a local shop which I try to patronize as much as I can.

The meat section gets 4 stars, but grab some extra bags when you buy the bags of chicken because they leak everywhere. The produce section is not good, nothing ever seems fresh. After several purchases of their produce, I will never buy anything else except the bags of salad. The deli section is pricey and I have bought several salads that were bad. My most recent was some chicken salad and potato salad I bought a week ago that was rancid. Their prices are higher than stop and shop, but they provide a convenience of being a local grocery store that doesn’t require you to maneuver old country road. I go there to pickup an item or two, or to visit their meat section, and but never for major grocery shopping. For that, I go to super stop & shop.

Was in the area and decided to check the place out.
Shopping score was Seville oranges that I needed for a marinade recipe, and soda from Brasil that I really dig. It’s been hard to find since I first had it at a rodizio place years ago. Prices seemed pretty good. Didn’t get to check out the meat counter to see what the selection was like.

When you need a big cut of meat at a good price, this is the place to go. They will butcher the meat you choose if its large and you don’t want to. They even have lamb ribs (Not lamb chops that you see every where). Lamb spare ribs are really hard to find and my family love just putting them in oven and roasting with just salt. The bread from the bakery is also great. The prices are amazing. They have a large Ethinc selection of food thru out the store. The parking lot is very large. This place is right of Old country road. Its so easy to get to. Great Hidden Jem. (Yea I send Jem, its silly I know)
