Alexander’s Mobility Services

First of all, the crews on both ends of our move were wonderful (Peter at the origin and Ralph at the destination). Every member of the crew was pleasant to work with and they were incredibly patient with us as we figured out where all of our possessions would go. If this review was just for the crew, it would be 5-​stars hands-​down.
However, our agent (Amy McClintock) was utterly useless. From the get-​go, she was unable to provide us with important information, including being able to confirm with us that our move was scheduled. Knowing that summer is an incredibly busy time of year for moving, this was concerning. She eventually did send us the confirmation number, but this was after several phone calls from both me and my partner.
Additionally, Amy was not able to confirm with us the time of arrival of the origin crew until the day before the move, even though I called on several occasions. She did redeem herself slightly on the day of the move (Wednesday, July 30) by calling after the movers had finished packing up the truck. She promised me that she would call that Friday to let me know when we might expect our possessions within the 10-​day window. I ended up having to call her in the afternoon on Friday. She informed me that the truck was not completely packed and the driver did not know when the delivery might be made. She said she would call that following Monday to let me know. We had also been originally told by Jayson (who gave us the estimate) that we would be given a tracking number for our shipment once it was on the truck — this was never given to us at any time and would have saved us a lot of time and effort in what came next.
Again, I had to call. I called late in the afternoon on Monday after waiting around all day for Amy to call and was incredibly surprised to find out that Amy was ON VACATION for the entire week! I was appalled that Amy never mentioned anything to me when I spoke with her just a few days ago. The receptionist (whose name I don’t know) was incredibly apologetic and worked with me to find another coordinator to speak with. She successfully connected me with Chris (last name unknown, but was a woman) and Chris was able to quickly narrow down the window to two days — the Wednesday or Thursday of that week. She told me that she would call me the next morning to confirm which day it might be, but I ended up calling in the afternoon since I hadn’t heard from her. When we finally did connect, she was able to confirm that our delivery day would be Thursday, August 6. She told me that I would hear from the driver with 24-​hours notice. Ralph did call the day before, so I was happy with that.
The interesting twist on this is that when Ralph and the crew arrived in a timely manner at 8am that Thursday he let me know that only our stuff was on the truck and it had merely been sitting in storage lot at Alexander’s. WHAT?! Then why did Amy tell me that the truck still needed to be filled? Why wasn’t the truck brought up here right away if that was the case (especially since we only moved about 6 hours away from St. Paul, MN to Houghton, MI)? Perhaps there was a lack of available crew members? Having met Ralph in person, my only conclusion was that Amy had completely lied to me. I find this completely unacceptable. Fortunately, the person (Julianne?) who called right when Ralph and the crew were leaving to check on the delivery was helpful in letting me know how the financial aspect would proceed since we came in under our estimated weight and need to submit to our work for reimbursement.
Short story — the crew was great, but the coordinators (at least Amy and Chris) need to figure out how to communicate better to their clients who are paying THOUSANDS of dollars for their move. Is it so much to ask for peace of mind when it comes to moving, an already stressful life event?

When we needed help moving from MN to TX we contacted this mover company and we had Jayson Andrea come out to our place to provide an estimate. He emailed us the information and when we tried to email him back to confirm we never got a response back. We needed to be out by a certain date and when we didn’t hear back for 2 days we went ahead and called another company (Beltmann Relocation Group, which responded right away and was able to help us). I guess Alexander’s services didn’t want our business. We have moved and unpacked and still no word back.

Alexander’s was hired for a series of office shuffling in August. After quoting a price and agreeing upon number of movers they showed up with more people than asked for (and charged us for them — when extra people are not useful in such small spaces).
Later, when we received our invoice the price was MUCH higher than the quoted price. We contested and agreed upon something more reasonable. Now 3 months later we are still dealing with this again and we were billed again after we had paid the agreed upon price. Luckily everything is documented.
I think for professional moves they expect the paperwork to be pushed through and remain unquestioned. The tactics taken by Alexander’s is unacceptable. And the customer service was slow, sometimes not responding for weeks.
