This place is amazing. I live in the suburbs and drive into the city just to have breakfast here. There was nothing I didn’t like! This place also is devoted to helping the local community and I really liked that. It’s organic locally sourced food that makes you feel like you are eating at home on the farm. The atmosphere is what I would describe as upscale hipster. There were regualrs sitting at the coffee bar chatting with the barista and people of all walks of life constantly coming in. It immediately made you feel imersed in a wonderful community. The entire interior was eco friendly and the waste not attitude made you feel like you were doing something good. Let’s break it down… Food — I had the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, my husband had the quiche. Both were delicious and perfectly proportioned. We were full but not stuffed. We sat there for a while enjoying the people watching and the atmosphere and before we left we decided to get a blueberry scone and a slice of banana bread. The sizes of these were very generous. I’m not a scone connoisseur but my husband said he absolutely loved it. I am however a banana bread fanatic and I can say this is without a doubt the best banana bread I have ever had outside of my mom’s. I would drive into the city for this alone… absolutely amazing! Service — The service was great. As first timers we weren’t sure how the whole ordering process worked and stuff but the guy was patient and explained menu items. It was a really enjoyable and smooth process. Price — The price is a little high but in my opinion worth it. They explain what local projects they are currently contributing for and I have no problem spending extra money at a place that’s breathing life back into its’ surroundings. I have paid a lot more for worse food at places that are not giving back so I think when all is taken into consideration the pricing here is really not that bad. Overall, I will go back here again and again. It’s a great place that makes you feel good for going to it. The food is fantastic and the baked goods are to die for. If you are looking for a nice local place to enjoy a casual meal at and you want to leave feeling good this is the place for you!

Good food and decently priced. Good people with great attitudes. 3 stars because I waited over an hour for a biscuit breakfast sandwich when I was told it would be a 5−10min wait on food. Long story short they were woefully understaffed for a busy Sunday brunch at 12:30. They seemed overwhelmed long before all the seats/tables filled. Poor timing/planning/staffing, can be easily fixed

Cute spot to meet up with friends or get some work done. My friends, friend’s mom, and I stopped by Butter after brunch at Nighthawks(it’s only a block away) on a Saturday around 1:00. It was busy but not packed — there were individuals bWe sat and chatted at the beautiful big wooden slab table. My friends shared a large lemon bar and I got an almond milk latte. My coffee was just fine but what I loved most is that they didn’t up-charge me for a milk alternative! They also had soy to chose from as well.

This might be a new favorite coffee shop of mine! The coffee is good. The bakery items are delicious. And they have some pretty cool weekday discounts! Check them out! The shop has a strong community feel, plenty of seating, brightly light interior, they compost, free coffee/tea refills, and the staff are nice. I’ll be returning. :)

This is a nice neighborhood spot with good tea and coffee, above average bakery items and an upbeat feeling. I liked it. They had some people fiddling around on instruments, but that wasn’t any great draw as they were mostly into themselves.

First cup of coffee was lukewarm, the second one was hot, go figure? It was Friday night and they had live music ttwo Gentleman playing the guitar with very sweet voices and very good guitar skills. I was the only nonfamily member in the coffee shop at that time. Clean rest room a clean facility.

Cafes are a dime a dozen in Uptown, but Butter stands up against the rest. Their newly renovated location on 37th and Nicollet is gorgeous — spacious and bright. They make pretty much all of their bakery items in house. My favorites are their chai tea lattes, scones, muffins and hazelnut biscotti. Though I haven’t tried them myself(yet), I have many friends who’ve had Butter do cupcakes for their events or weddings and were extremely happy with them.

I absolutely love the beet and carrot burger. Wish I could eat one everyday. I hope this stays in business. Nice n big. Always a place to sit. Bright. Lots of Windows. Fresh food. Fair prices. Patient customer service. A great mission, getting fair priced housing and job training at Nicollet Square, a venture of Beacon Housing too. EATHERE!

I had the biscuits and gravey. They were good but pretty bland. Biscuits had a good taste but the sausage gravey which is what counts was missing that savory taste to it. The breakfast sandwichs are great though and the kids meals are an amazing deal. If you have kids check it out. They will love it.

Their pastries are good but seriously, does everyone hate their lives there? The barista always puts my coffee on the counter and walks away. No hi, no is this your latte? No smile. EVER. I get that it’s early but maybe have some coffee before you open to jump start your attitude.

With a sustainable bent, Butter Bakery serves as a community gathering spot in a minimalist, natural(albeit it somewhat sterile and cold) setting. The space lacked energy and was so pin-drop quiet from time to time that I felt compelled to scoot closer to my BF and lower my voice to a whisper. The service was fairly abominable. Not outright rude, but more so dismissive, inattentive, and discombobulated. Most ridiculously, I had to repeat my order 3 times before the counter person decided he was ready to process information. No need to bog this post down with some of the eccentricities(inadequate training /setting of expectations?) witnessed here. The arrival of my order did little to placate my frustration with the service. My soy latte tasted like hot water. The scramble(migas style, a mixture of tomato and onions — essentially salsa — dotted with fried tortilla strips) and breakfast burrito(tofu cubes, potatoes, veggies, and«chili» atop) were mediocre and uninspired, though the latter was slightly better and hands down more supersized. Admittedly, the price point is very reasonable and portions aren’t skimpy.(And there are sufficient vegetarian options.) So, it’s almost unfair to complain about the lack of culinary creativity. Truly, the mediocrity of the food alone would not solely deter me from returning. It is this so-so menu in combination with the crummy service and a space that doesn’t so much warm my soul which will allow me to remove with confidence Butter Bakery from my consideration set moving forward.

FREECOFFEE with Unilocal check-in. Like free shit? Check in when you’re here. I had stopped by nearby Five Watt Coffee and then here. My girlfriend and shared a chocolate chip cake that was amazing! Chill vibe, hand written chalkboard menu, lots of outlets at the bar that overlooks Nicollet Avenue, outdoor seating, friendly employees. Had a co-op Portland vibe to the place.

I returned to this café for a second visit on a weekday afternoon. Only three tables were occupied, but most of the other tables were covered in dishes that needed to be bused. The gentleman who was working was engaged in an animated conversation with a patron. I placed my order and picked up my drink before busing my own table. Clearing my own table proved to be difficult as the bins for dirty dishes and trash bin were both overflowing and were covered in flies. My food arrived shortly and it was just so-so. Meanwhile, the gentleman working returned to his conversation as the tables continued to be dirty. This continued for the duration of my approximate 45-minute visit. I don’t think I will be back.

The first time I visited Butter was the previous summer for a research meeting. The interior is warm and has a strong sense of community. The area is large and spacious with ample amounts of natural light. I have only had their espresso and it does not disappoint. They make excellent cappuccinos and café breves. It’s a fantastic place for a work meeting, a place to study, or to catch up with a friend. I will be back to try out the food menu. Prices are very low compared to similar establishments, however I suspect it is due to the large amount of community sponsors for the establishment.

I was pretty excited to check this place out because I love homemade biscuits. I came from St Louis Park and I arrived around 8:30 on Sunday morning and there was no line. I liked the sign when you first walk in that tells first timers the ordering process. Thinking about it now I’m sure it’s because the unfriendly employees were tired of telling people how to order. I placed my order of coffee and a biscuit sandwich at the counter and left a tip when I signed my name. I didn’t get a thank you or anything from the guy at the counter. He handed me my table card and I sat down. About 5 minutes later I hear someone call out my coffee order. Not my name, just the drink. I imagine that could get confusing if it’s busy. I didn’t realize they weren’t going to bring it out to me. So I went to the counter to get it and said thank you to the barista who didn’t even look at me. About 20 minutes later my sandwich was brought out, and again, no acknowledgement from employee. I had to get up and get my silverware and napkins. When I was done I had to bus my own dishes. I’m all for tipping for great service but I really wonder what my tip was for since I had to do most of the work. The biscuit was excellent but the whole sandwich was barely warm. Also in my last bite I found the stem from the avocado which was very unpleasant. I might come back here if a friend insisted but I don’t think I’ll be going out of my way to go there again any time soon.

I was just thinking about all the crap they serve at the chain coffee shops, then I pass by here. I love this corner, close to the busy one up the block but not in it. I had the most welcoming server for this first timer. I even tipped, and I never tip counter service. I just started grabbing a small vanilla cookie, chai cheesecake, lemon bar, and carrot cake. All was awesome. I ate the cookie while he’s bagging up everything else. I am usually way disappointed in carrot cake, just about everywhere. But this nailed it, nothing overpowering. All the flavors were a perfect blend. A very unique cheesecake, even in looks. A must stop over this way. If your lucky enough make it your hangout.

I have only ever gone here for breakfast and gotten the burrito or egg sandwich. Both were yummy though the biscuit sandwich could have used more sauce as it tasted dry since the biscuit soaked up all the goodness. Their baked goods are phenomenal, I love the butter they use-which they sell! And everything tastes fresh and moist. I also get their coffee drinks and it is one of the few places where an almond or soy milk latte doesn’t taste weird. I don’t know what they do but as a non milk drinker I appreciate this so much! The hibiscus ice tea is great and if you eat there and ask for a go cup they fill it right up before you leave. I love having this neighborhood bakery a block away and can’t wait to get something from them this weekend.

I have always been interested in Butter and couldn’t really get a good idea of what it was like from the street so I decided to redeem a Buy One, Get One coupon in the Uptown Mag and check it out. I really liked the casual, welcoming atmosphere. It is pretty simple and lets in a lot of light from all the windows. I ordered the Butter Iced Coffee, which had cold press, vanilla, and cream for only $ 3.75! My guest got the Northern Exposure, which had cold press, maple syrup, and cream. I thought both tasted very good! Did not try a pastry but would like to next time using my Unilocal check-in deal. While we were there they had a band that was setting up to play that night. I would love to come back and enjoy the live music. I like how the place is pretty chill and welcoming and our barista was very friendly and genuine.

Stopped by today(approx. 8:30 am) for a to-go coffee and pastry. I gave the«service person» at the counter a $ 10, needing change for a tip. I then noticed the coffee level was absurdly low. Literally 75% or less. She returned with change. I was going to say something about the level of my coffee. Although I didn’t have a chance. I put out my hand, she dumped the change in it and walked away. Not even a «Thank You and Come Again!» My response was«Wow!!!» I looked over the counter and saw someone that appeared to be a manager. She recognized my disgust but didn’t do or say anything. Last time i will be back. Terrible service.

I came in right before they closed on a Sunday so there wasn’t much left in the case. There was some double chocolate cheesecake that looked AMAZING but the slices were so huge so I passed because I can’t be trusted around that much cheesecase. It was a tough decision between the red velvet cupcake or the chocolate cake. I went with the chocolate cake because it was HEARTSHAPED with caramel on top. The guy behind the counter was nice and friendly. The cake was only ok. The chocolate ganache was good but the cake was kind of dry. I should have gotten the red velvet cupcake… next time.

I met a group of friends here over last Thanksgiving weekend. Upon entering I realized Butter had a more fast casual atmosphere than I had expect. We snagged a table, not that it was crowded but the layout of the café and table sizes meant we had limited choices for 4. Next we ordered at the counter. The BFF and I shared the french toast and breakfast burrito. The burrito was nothing to write home about, too many potatoes. The french toast was delicious and I would take more any day. 3 of the group, including myself, decided to get chai because the sign at our table said today’s special was half off chia. We ordered at the counter and then throughout our brunch we noticed that the chai was pretty expensive for being half off and then we asked our server if they could confirm the price. They said Butter only offers the deal if you mention it, even though it’s posted at each table on a sign. What? I understand restaurants that specifically state in their social media or email campaign they will only offer a detail if you mention it when ordering, but to displace a sign on that table of «daily specials» and not say any wording about having to mention it at the counter is very deceptive. I’m going to assume since it’s your«daily special» posted around your space you should honor it and the patron shouldn’t need to bring it up like it’s a secret. My friends had to awkwardly have their drinks partially refunded at the counter before we left. I’d come back for the food but this was not the most ideal customer experience.

The quiche and cappuccino was fabulous. I would definitely come back to try other breakfast items and more coffee. There are a lot of street parking near by so no need to worry when their parking lot is full.

There are a lot of bakeries and cafés in South Minneapolis, but Butter is one of the best. Buttery baked goods from scratch every morning(and day old stuff for $ 1!), fairly traded coffee, delicious breakfast sandwiches and quiches that change each day. A great spot to get some work done or catch up with friends. Sign up for Dan’s monthly emails and you get a behind the scenes look at a business doing good in the neighborhood PLUS a monthly coupon(free stuff! Hello!). Personal favorites: ginger chocolate scone, carrot cake cookie sandwich, breakfast biscuit sandwiches — try it Clint style, beet/carrot veggie burger

Oh my gosh, YUM. The food here is wonderful, every damn thing. I have had breakfast, lunch/dinner, baked goods. Everything is so fresh, so homemade, so flavorful. The owner is often there to great you, which I think is wonderful. The vibe is sunny, quiet– a good place to have coffee with a friend or read a book. Note: they open at 7am, but the kitchen doesn’t exactly open until 8am(weekdays), so if you head in at 7 for an early morning breakfast date with your girlfriends, be prepared. I was not. Next up, to try their ice cream! They also sell pounds of butter from a local creamery. How adorable is that?!

If Butter [Bakery Café] was a lady at the club, I would definitely try to holler! «Aye, boo, how you doin’? Girl you are killin’ that metal and wood décor, tonight. And I’m diggin’ your style cause you fly, but ain’t over-the-top. Nah mean? Oh you speak Espanol? Aw snaps.»(No I don’t talk like that… Well, uh, maybe I do…) But what’s good with her personality? After trying to schmooze Butter for a quick minute, I would ask her if she wanted to groove to some 90’s R&B on the dance floor. We chat, and I find out some of her favorite peeps are Ginuwine, and Sisqo. Butter has great tastes in artists like Ginuwine who has made classic baby-lovin’ anthems such as «Pony», «So Anxious», and«In Those Jeans». But Sisqo? Aw, hell nah! Homeboy sold out with the«Thong Song»(shoulda stayed with Dru Hill, brotha!) and that ish was so whack. And that’s what Butter(Bakery Café) is like. Great coffee(like Ginuwine), but the pastries aren’t up to par(like Sisqo). It’s cool, yo. Liking Sisqo is kind of forgivable, and we still text like all the time after I received her digits after dancing that one night. She’s still bookmarked on Unilocal, and I always know where she hangs(37th and Nicollet). Is she my soul mate? Nah. Butter is more along the lines of a good friend, a friend with benefits, or something like that. Cue Musiq’s «Just Friends». «I just wanna know your name and maybe some time We can hook up, hang out, just chill.»
