The atmosphere is rustic and the food is okay. I’d would eat here again but I wasn’t excited about it being that it was BBQ. I was hoping for a bit more.

We keep coming back to this place because it is close, and the breakfast has always been GREAT! I love that they incorporate delicious BBQ into classic breakfast dishes. But — I am not impressed with the BBQ entrees themselves. The ribs are tough and the flavor was not memorable. The sides are mediocre at best. Also, a place like this should serve beer.

I had been searching for a great BBQ restaurant in Minnesota ever since I had arrived back from a vacation to Memphis four years ago. I decided to try Cap’s Grille one day while I was in the Minnehaha Park area and the rest is history. First and foremost, their food is phenomenal. Their ribs exemplify traditional southern-style bbq extremely well by their sauce selections and the way they are cooked to be «soft but not too soft». I also found their Tennessee-Style pulled pork sandwich to be noteworthy as well. The dining experience itself was very positive as well. Their staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is beautifully ordinary. It is a small place too, so you get great smells of freshly grilled bbq coming from the kitchen. The only downside I could foresee is the spacing, as I imagine it can get pretty busy on the weekend lunch/dinner rush. They also provide you with generous amounts of food per meal. It can get pricey depending on what you order, but there is a very slim chance that you’ll still be hungry by the time the check comes around.

Some of the best BBQ in town and right on the LRT. All they’re missing is a liquor license!

Great barbecue for the area. I got the brisket sandwich with cole slaw, and it really hit the spot for this Texan. Service was spectacular as well.

Brisket sandwich was amazing ! Really enjoy the taste of their BBQ sauce. Nice tasty smoker taste on the ribs too. Definitely will be returning. Server was very friendly and had a pleasant dining experience outside on the patio.

Conveniently located off the Metro stop and near the Minnehaha Falls Park — for hiking afterwards! Decent food. Big portions. Friendly staff. Family friendly. Clean. We enjoyed sliders Tennessee style, chicken, fries, and cheese sticks. No booze available though.

The food is amazing barbeque, the service is great and they give you more than enough for what you pay! Right off the Light Rail, makes it an easy place to stop and get some great food on your commute.

The Stacker is huge in size and flavor. The BBQ sauce is sweet and the pulled pork is tender. Absolutely order it and enjoy!

The BBQ is exquisite, the breakfast is excusable. On my first visit I had the staple, «The Stacker» sandwich. This delightful pork sandwich is probably the best BBQ I have had in the Twin Cities and certainly will give you two meals as it literally fills a dinner plate. Seriously; best BBQ in the Cities. Period. Caps would’ve gotten a full 5 stars but I tried their breakfast on this visit(Granny’s Spatula or something another) and it was a bland mix of eggs, hash browns, onions, and a mound o cheese. I tried to save it with ketchup, pepper, and even BBQ sauce but it was a goner. Rest in piece Granny; you lead a mediocre existence. BBQ yea Breakfast nea

I’ve been meaning to go to Caps for a long time. Tonite my wife and I went for dinner. I had the brisket sandwich and she had a steak sandwich which were both very good and very inexpensive. We also each had a house salad which was very good as well. So large portions and quality food will have me back again

I go to Cap’s pretty much for one thing, and that’s the Pork Chops. Thick, bone-in, juicy, melt in your mouth, kissed with house recipe BBQ sauce, Pork Chops. I usually get the side salad to start — a super tiny, cheap looking wood(or faux-wood) bowl of chopped lettuce, a sad tomato or two, and some ranch in a portion cup. I only eat it because I can smell meat cooking — and my stomache needs something to pass the time. With my meat I have the«Steak fries» — because really, who can screw up potato wedges? These choices don’t matter because I am here for the best pork chop I’ve ever had. Two if I’m really hungry. P. S. This is Minnesota. Cornbread is optional, and if you don’t like texas toast, you may leave now.

In Minnesota, this place has the best pulled pork sandwich; a.k.a «Stacker». These guys have been doing it right for a long time and I do my best to make a lunch trip when I can(about 20 minutes from Mpls via Blue Line). If you’ve never been here before, the first thing you need to order is the Stacker and it must be Tennessee Style(topped with slaw). This is the only thing I’ve ever ordered here, but hear that other items are amazing(like chicken and the ribs!). No contest, don’t ask questions, just order the«Stacker» Tennessee Style.

Cap’s is a great place to go and eat some BBQ. They are very friendly with good service. They greet you when you came in and greet you when you are leaving, nice touch. They even have a cute little outdoor patio. I ate there today with my wife. She had the Stacker(pulled pork sandwich) which was a MONSTER, she had no chance of finishing that by herself. You can also get the Stacker as Tennessee Style which adds coleslaw to the top. I had the Bootlegger which is an Angus Beef Brisket BBQ sandwich that was also really good. I upgraded my fries to Onion Rings, they were fresh hand-dipped onion rings, not some frozen garbage. Even though we couldn’t finish our meal, we saw a sign– desserts: Apple Crisp and Peach Cobbler $ 4.50 with Ice cream and whipped cream! How can you say no? They aren’t in the menu so I am not sure if they have them all of the time or not but the Apple Crisp was AWESOME! The thing that I didn’t like were the handwritten tickets that just shows their shorthand and a total price. No itemization or way to verify your charges. I like to look at my bill before paying.

I had driven by Cap’s many times while driving down Hiawatha, but never stopped in. I wish I would have sooner. A friend was visiting from Chicago and was on a mission to take pictures of all the Peanut’s statues in the Twin Cities. He found out there was a(huge) Charlie Brown at Cap’s so we stopped in to get a picture and after smelling the place, decided to stay for some food. It’s a small, kind of homey place. Almost like someone just put a bunch of tables and chairs in their living room. The cooler that houses the side salads and various other things they bring to the table is right out in the dining room. And this presents the single problem I had here. I am telling you don’t eat the side salad that comes out of that fridge. I saw the waitress put one back in there after serving it to someone who(apparently) didn’t touch it, after that customers table cleared out. I was a little shocked she would do that considering it was out in full view of everyone. That’s my only gripe. I ordered the Stacker(roast BBQ pork) sandwich and it was huge and delicious. It was in fact so big that I started eating the excess pork that was overflowing from the bun with a fork and was full before I even took a bite of the sandwich! Lucky for me they have to go boxes. I practically got 3 meals out of that thing! My friend ordered the brisket sandwich and was pleased with that as well. We also got some mozz sticks for an appetizer and they were… mozz sticks. Nothing great. But that was an after thought and not what we were there for.

On a whim, I stopped in to Cap’s Grille a couple of months ago when I had time to kill in the South Minneapolis vicinity, and ho dang, am I glad that I did! Cap’s is a cute little place by the light rail tracks, and I’d wondered about it for years. I never made it there when I lived in the area, so when the opportunity presented itself to go for brunch, I was all over it. Interior décor is kind of kitschy but cute — not overwhelming. It definitely looks like a greasy spoon diner, though I guess they are known for their BBQ, and not necessarily their breakfast. Since it was a gorgeous day, I decided to sit on the patio. Service was ok — a gaggle of teenage girls that give the impression of this being their first summer job. It was a bit lacking at times, but the rest of the experience more than made up for it. The patio was bright and sunny, and I was able to sit and read during my meal for about an hour and a half without feeling like I was hogging up a table that someone else wanted. It filled up while I was eating, but more people sat inside, so it was nice to not feel rushed. Food. OMG the food. Breakfast skillets arrive at your table in a skillet. I had the farmer breakfast option — something like two eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes, all for around eight bucks. I’ve had similar breakfasts elsewhere in town that cost more and weren’t as good — this was the. best. breakfast. Bacon was perfectly crispy, eggs were light and fluffy, and the hashbrowns… I don’t even like hashbrowns, and these were amazing! A friendly gent was ringing people up at the front counter. He asked how everyone’s meal was in turn, and was genuinely interested to know how everything was. He thanked you and asked you to come again if you had a good experience, and asked what could be done differently if you had a bad one. Long story short, I can’t wait to go back!

I wish I could give this place an extra half star because of the friendliness of the owner and the service but I can not so it has to be a three star for now. This was my first time and my friend suggested it raving about their breakfasts. A short wait when we arrived is always a good sign. Someone, who I assumed was the owner, was very nice and chatted with people as they came in, asking them if they lived in the area, etc. which is not seen much in today’s world. Kudos to you owner if you read this! Once seated, we were served promptly, brought coffees and waters, and ordered. Our food came SO fast, it was unbelievable. I ordered Eggs Benedict and he ordered the Cajun Breakfast. The hash browns were good, the ham was real ham, like off the bone ham and big thick pieces. Who does that? It was really good. The downside — -The Hollandaise sauce… I was so disappointed because this could have gone down as one of my fave eggs benedict places had the hollandaise sauce been homemade. I like my HS light yellow, thinner, perhaps with a hint of lemon. This was the darker, almost yellow/orange color and it was thicker. I realize its my taste as I saw several other patrons enjoying the sauce but for me, it was not good. My friend also did not like the sauce at all, so much that he barely ate any of his Cajun breakfast. He also said the side of Andouille sausage was not good but I think that he was just turned off by the whole meal in general at this point. I am sure the sausage is probably fine. I really want to come back and try their BBQ which smelled really yummy and I will. The bad HS will not keep me away. The server was prompt, efficient, and kept refills on our water and coffee; Food was served fast and hot and I will be back to try something without HS.
