They have a deal, where if you buy their shirt, you get 2 for 1’s on drinks forever. Seemed pretty cool to me, except that this is a bar I will go to often, even with 2 for 1’s. This place has been updated from the dive bar it used to be, it looks lighter and airier, but still a dive bar. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, especially since dive bars have been dwindling in number in Minneapolis for years. The bar replaced Halek’s, which had been there for a whopping 65YEARS! I appreciate this place for the friendly staff, the ethnic diversity, the friendly patrons, being around the corner from other bars and a food truck, and having at least some decent beer. Why it is named after two characters in a popular old sit-com based in Boston, I don’t know.

On a positive note — cheap beer, fast service, strong drinks. They have a lot of football game specials. But don’t expect too much of the atmosphere — it is bright and showing it’s age — but heck it is a dive bar after all!

You gotta love a bar where everyone is drunk-loud, and the loudest of them all is a guy in a wheel chair. I liked this bar back when it was ‘Halek’s Bar’. It had character then. Dark atmosphere, donning plenty of sports trophies on the walls. It was a pub of dense depravity and depression. It was perfect then. Unfortunately the only thing I like now about the new Cliff-n-Norms is the reference to two of the greatest characters in television history.

Legitimate dive bar, not like the hipster dive bars in North East. They are a sports bar, televisions aren’t huge, but they have quite a few and patrons go to actually watch the game. There are also several of those pool tables with the bumpers, I’m not sure how to play, but I haven’t seen one of those in years, so if that is your game, you can play at Cliff-n-Norms.
