Quality of system was good and install went smoothly. However once I had an issue that needed solving, their customer service was HORRIBLE. Agreed with Matthew K that once an issue popped up, the customer service team became ghosts until I threatened them with going to the Better Business Bureau. Then they blamed me for their inability to schedule efficiently. #notaccountable

I had Closets by Design building and install an office unit for our home office. The good: 1. The customer service to start was good and the cabinets seem to be made good. The bad: 1. We wanted the handles on the furniture to match the handles to the rest of our house and since they had a very small selection we ordered our own handles. 3 sets of 5 handles, 15 total. When the handles came in we open the box to make sure that there were the correct handles and that there were 15 of them. The sales person came and picked them up from us. Somewhere between our house and the office she lost one of the sets of 5. Instead of taking responsibility, they tried to ignore the issue and installed the cabinets minus the 5 handles. When I called about this the sales person said that the handles were missing when she turned them into the office but she would check her car and see if her kids had pulled them out of the box.(No apology) I never heard back from her so I followed up again the next day and she said she still had to look and would let me know. She also stated that she would follow up with a visit to the house once the install was done to see the work. Neither happened. I ended up ordering another set of handles and installed them myself. 2. Once the units were installed I could tell that the installers are not carpenters and are paid by the job and not by the hour by the lack of finishing done. The office was suppose to be tight to each wall, but each side of the cabinets had at least a ½ inch gap between the wall and the cabinets. When I asked if he was going to fill in the gaps he said he would see what he could do, he did try and fill in one side, but still looked very unfinished. The crown molding and other trims had gaps. I ended up cutting fillers and caulking around the cabinets and molding to give them the finished/built-in look that I was told we would have during the sales pitch. 3. Over all not what I would have expected for the cost of the office. No accountability on there part and no quality assurance. Once they got the order and the credit card the customer service was nonexistent. I do not recommend using them at all. The only reason I have them a one star is because zero stars are not an option.

In my experience Closets by Design was nearly unreachable after they received our credit card. That was the first bad sign. Closets by Design also did not build our unit according to the contract. They admitted they changed the design after we had signed it and we’ll just have to accept it. We didn’t feel they were very trustworthy, contract seemed like a waste of paper, and overall felt victimized. I recommend to my friends working with Twin Cities Closet Company instead.
