This review is for non-cupcake food items. I ordered food from Bite Squad and had them deliver. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was squeezed into this container to the point where it looked like a thick pancake. The taste was OK. The worst, though, was the hummus plate. I’ve never tasted worse hummus. It was dry and flavorless and barely stuck on the vegetables. It would just fall off. But to be honest, that didn’t matter because the taste was so bad I just tossed the whole thing. The vegetables, by the way, looked like they were cut by a small child. I know that’s harsh but all of it was so unprofessional! I’m really disappointed because they actually make vegan cupcakes and they are really good. I don’t know what happened with this food but it was super disappointing. Maybe this was a one time thing and if so, Cupcake, I apologize. We all have bad days. But if you, the customer, don’t want to take the chance, stick with their namesake which are pretty darn delicious

The Twin Cities has a handful of locations lead by veterans of the Cupcake Wars. This joint is one of those. Cupcakes here range from $ 2.50 for a basic flavor to $ 4.25 for one of their fanciest combos. Cupcakes are all ‘regular sized,’ which is to say they’re made in the size cupcake tin we grew up with — not oversized behemoths. I’ve decided that this actually works in a diner’s favor since you can eat two cupcakes instead of one. During this visit, I went for the $ 1.50 scone and a cronut(croissant/donut hybrid). The disparate flavor profiles contrasted each other well. The very sweet cronut was delightful. Fluffy. Sugary with malted/chocolate beads. The very subtle scone helped cleanse the sweetness from my palette. The star of this visit was the red berry tea which was full flavored in its unsweetened state and heightened by the sweetness of the cronut. I returned a day later for cupcakes(blueberry cheesecake and caramel cubed) and found them to be ‘solid’ in two ways: the cake was dense and the flavors were tasty, but without a ‘wow’ factor. Slightly annoying: you need to bus your own tables — and the bussing station is in the most inconvenient place imaginable… Around the corner and over a wrinkle in the flooring that’s a tripping hazard. Poor space planning. I’ll come back again for cupcakes — but I’ll plan to arrive between 8:30 and 9pm when cupcakes and pastries are half priced. If you arrive earlier, Take advantage of the Unilocal check-in offer for a free mini cupcake. s

The cupcakes are excellent… probably the best most people will every have. However, the prices are far too high. It’s not just a niche, high-priced place… it’s just plane high priced.

I normally do not write reviews, but today I feel as though I needed to. I went in this morning at 7:30 to get a cup of coffee and a pull apart. The front door was locked(30 minutes after opening?). They did not have any pastry’s or pull aparts, only one layer of cupcakes at the bottom of the rack. The coffee was luke warm; how is that possible 30 minutes after opening? They did have a «Now Hiring» sign, so maybe they are under staffed. If that is the case, the owner should be picking up the slack, and he definitely was not. It seems as though they have gone steeply downhill over the last couple of years, sadly. –Disappointed

Had this review been written a 2 years ago, it would have been 5 stars, but my travels through their menu and many staff changes have matured my opinion. The cupcakes, particularly the Cup of Mud are delicious, but I haven’t purchased one for myself in probably a year because of the high price. Much of the food is tasty, but I echo the frustrations of many before me that it can take far too long to have your food delivered, even during slow hours. I most often order their chicken and wild rice soup, but have found that it is decidedly hit and miss. When it is on, I could eat enough of it for an army. There are certain days when it can be crazy spicy for some reason though. I’ve found such inconsistencies with other foods as well. My most recent disappointment came when I ordered the sweet potato fries for the first time. They cost $ 5 and no joke, there were 6 fries in the cone. Drinks are fine, but Overflow down the street is better, less pretentious, and cheaper Over the past year, there has been an increase in my missed or incorrect orders, wrongly posted offerings for specials, once again resulting in wrong orders, and a general decrease in customer service. Phones aren’t answered and when I tell staff about missed or wrong orders, they stare at me like a deer in headlights-no apologies, no attempts to remedy the situation. Even if they did offer to make things right, my lunch break isn’t long enough to accommodate another thirty minutes to make a replacement meal. All this to say, I’m over Cupcake and it’s worth the extra two minutes walk down to Overflow for higher quality food, drinks, desserts, service, and atmosphere.

NOTE: I am not reviewing the Cupcakes. Though I do think they seem terribly expensive, the look lovely. The times I have gone in here for lunch I have been consistently underwhelmed with their food, and it takes FOREVER to get it — why is the kitchen so slow when pretty much everything they serve should not take a lot of time to prepare? Today I ordered a simple Club sandwich, which the menu said would come on «toasted white.» Menu also said I could have a «choice of a side,» but wait staff told me it came with a taco pasta salad. I asked if I could get something else as my side and was told for an extra dollar I could get a side salad. Charging an extra dollar to sub a little side salad for a taco pasta salad seemed sort of ridiculous to me, but I ordered it anyway cuz I don’t like taco pasta salad. When the order finally came out, I rushed back to my office and opened the bag to find the bread was not toasted. The turkey and bacon were tasty, hence the two stars, but an un-toasted club sandwich defeats the whole point of it being called a «CLUB» sandwich. Technically, I think a Club is also supposed to be layered between 3 slices of toasted bread, but I didn’t mind it not having the extra bread cuz I usually remove one slice of bread anyway, but I wanted it toasted(as described in the Cupcake menu). The side salad was unremarkable, consisting of some spinach leaves, a bit of red onion and some cucumber pieces. It looked like they may also have shaken a thimble full of Parmesan on there, too, but it was hard to spot. For all this I had to pay nearly $ 10, and that side salad was not worth an extra dollar. I think I’m done with Cupcake. If this had been my only disappointing experience, I would try again, but its just the most recent disappointing and overpriced lunch experiences from Cupcake.

Since writing my first review in June, I transitioned from vegetarian to vegan. I have also gone back to Cupcake because they’re one of few bakeries that sell vegan items. Their vegan cupcakes are great and always taste fresh. Maybe their«regular»(dairy containing) items I had my first visit just are made in big batches that sit for a long time? Either way I figured they deserved another star.

Absolutely obsessed with this place. The red velvet and cookies and crème cupcakes are probably my favorite. I also love the macaroons, but they’re kind of expensive for how small they are, so I don’t get them often. I’ve also had some sandwiches there for lunch that have been very tasty. Make sure you«check in» on Facebook for a free mini cupcake!

In terms of creative flavors and selection, this place takes the cake! I love reading about the descriptions of the various cupcakes and the display is nice. Of the flavors I have tried, the cake tends to be a bit dry and lacking flavor. I have since started getting cupcakes from other shops because their products easily surpass the cupcakes from Cupcake. This location offers some food options like soups, salads, and sandwiches. It is relatively small inside, but I have always found seating with no problems. The service varies from being mediocre to excellent. Parking is a nightmare, especially with the light rail now so close. It is one of the main reasons I now rarely even think about going to this café.

Ordered lunch to go 15 mins before showing up there. Still had to wait about 30 mins for food. I got the black bean burger with the«daily fresh side» the burger was very good but the side was only about two bites. I would go there again if I didn’t have to wait 45 mins for food.

Cupcakes: decadent, decorative, delicious. There are other desserts as well, but the titular cupcakes are the star of the show. Coffee: excellent if uninteresting. Food: a mixed bag, but the tuna salad sandwich is very tasty. Décor: small, pleasant, intimate.

Went on a trip to Minnesota and in Mall of America my friend and I went to this cute little fun cupcake shop. The shop is very very small but has bright fun colors and a variety of flavors. I was VERYPLEASED to discover they had 5AVAILABLEVEGANFLAVORS!!! They also had regular and gluten free !!! It was a decent cupcake and not to Badly priced.

I tried to order a dozen cupcakes on the cupcake website for delivery that afternoon. I saw the bitesquad logo next to the snelling location I was ordering from and assumed that a 10.99 delivery fee would get me 12 cupcakes that day the same as chinese food or pizza. I didn’t see the date on the order confirmation was the next day. That was my oversight, I’ll admit. When the cupcakes didn’t show up for my party that afternoon I called and learned of the 24 hour order policy. I asked that my order be canceled because I no longer needed the cupcakes. They told me that because they don’t deliver from the snelling location my order had been«kicked» to the eagan store. I called that store too and asked to cancel my order. They said they would leave a note for the bakers as they’d all left for the day. The next day I get off work at 7 to find that they have tried to deliver the cupcakes and are holding them for pickup. I can’t call until the next morning. When I call the number left with the messages it is a 3rd location on University Ave. I explain what happened and they tell me it isn’t THEIR fault I didn’t understand the 24 hour order/delivery policy. I say that doesn’t matter because I had canceled my order the same day it was placed. They tell me that I have to wait a week for the special complaint handling HR guy to get back from his vacation because the store manager I’m speaking to cannot refund the charges. They need to train all their staff to perform the pretty basic tasks of finding orders, canceling orders, communicating between stores, and refunding a credit charge. I shouldn’t have to make a dozen calls to 3 different locations over the period of a week and a half to cancel an order and have my money refunded. It should have been taken care of when I called the first time. I didn’t even see a cupcake and I’m left with an awful taste in my mouth. UPDATE: They called later that day to let me know I did get my refund. I’m satisfied, but doubt I’ll be doing business with them again.

I don’t know why I keep coming to Cupcake. It sucks. Their food all sucks. Service is rude. Donuts are dryand flavorless. Cupcakes are dry. Frosting is like straight up lard– gross. Yet I keep coming back, I want them to be good but they just aren’t. The only thing that I have had that was good was their cronut/doussant.

I had lunch at Cupcake today with my co-workers. The ambiance of the café was great. Cute, quaint, clean and fun. The menu was terrific too — lots of variety! I ordered the black bean burger(sans cheese) and it was so good. It came out on a beautiful bun and had lettuce, tomato, and corn relish on top of it… and some sort of spicy mayonnaise. I can’t eat corn(boo), so I scraped it all off… but the rest was delicious. I have two complaints… first, I asked the young woman at the counter if there was any other dairy in the burger besides the cheese and she answered no(dairy+Kari is no good). I didn’t know what the side would be, but it came out with noodle salad with a very thick creamy sauce on it and hunks of orange cheese in it. I didn’t eat it(obviously). I was disappointed that the side would be something I couldn’t eat — especially since I voiced I had an issue with dairy. Second, the parking is atrocious. There are a very few places to park on the street — and they have a tiny lot behind the café that serves a variety of businesses in the area. Cupcake had about 8 designated spots. We were lucky to get one of them(at the end of the lot next to a fence) — but getting back out of this lot was very difficult. One co-worker acted as a traffic director so the other could safely back out of the space without hitting the car parked about 6 feet directly behind her.(Dude was actually in the car and could have — and eventually did — pull up an additional 2 feet…). Anyway, I don’t think there are very many options to add parking to this area since it’s a pretty jam packed area — but perhaps arriving by bike or foot makes more sense. In summary, the food and cupcakes are both really good… but if you’re easily annoyed by having to drive around in circles looking for parking, skip it — or walk!

Generally good flavors all around but nothing that stands out in particular. My Apple Brie sandwich was a good balance of sweet without being too heavy but the bread was a little overwhelming. One thing this place really does have going for it is that all of the food looks absolutely amazing and after all, we all eat with our eyes first. Additionally, the venue is full of fun decorations to keep you engaged including a window that looks into the bakery so you can see those delectable creations in the making I was a little disappointed by the service. The staff made me feel a bit like I was inconveniencing them with my questions and did not seem to have a lot of knowledge about the food they serve. All in all it was a nice lunch but I probably wont be rushing back.

I find the CupCake to be a little hit or miss. The first time I went to the location on University, it was shortly after the owner had won CupCake Wars. I had a Red Velvet cupcake and a Cookies & Cream. They were both to die for(5 stars all the way…) This last time I went I got Salted Nut Cupcake. It was so dense and there was something so off about the flavor. I was expecting something like a Nutroll candy car but instead got something almost Jiffy cornbread. I can’t decide if I was disappointed because the whole thing was bad or if I had just been expecting something else. My guest got the Paris Hilton and raved so it just might have been an off day. Outside of these two visits I have been here a couple of other times. The cupcakes were good but not enough to really want to pay the price for them. They weren’t THAT good. So all in all, I think it is a quaint place to visit, for sure. The staff is always fast, efficient and friendly. They have a good system to move people through on busy days. I had noted they had a decent looking sandwich menu, maybe the next time I will partake in that. They have outdoor seating in a nice shaded area. Beware, however, the side of the building is covered with ivy and it is a pretty wooded area of the city so the bugs might drive you back inside. If you don’t know the area, make sure to watch the parking. There are several areas that are off limits to CupCake parking. You may need to walk a little… but, in reality, you need to walk for the 1,999 calories that cupcake had in it!!!

We had Cupcake cater our wedding a year ago but I didn’t have the chance to try any of the cupcakes! On our visit today we tried the dulce de leche and s’more cupcakes — both were great … very light cake and the frosting isn’t too sweet. I liked that both had a little filling as well. The shop is nice but a little hot. A/C would’ve been good today. Workers were friendly enough but service wasn’t anything special. Parking seems to be an issue here. There are signs everywhere saying«no cupcake parking» and signs on Cupcake’s door warning people they will be towed if they park in the wrong spot… so BEWARE!

THIS business has it all! It feels so good to write a 5 star review! We got there a bit early after picking up my daughter from the UofMN. We were waited on right away. While trying to decide I got a cup of coffee. Then went over to chat with the bakers/decorators. We got a box of six but were really hoping for a German Chocolate one for my sister-in-law. Mentioning this to the decorators they promptly made one for us! We were forced to eat one of the 6 we had just purchased! The horrors! The guys are the counter were great, patient, and actually genuinely interested in the product, the place was clean, the folks in the back would talk over the glass even though the were making the days cupcakes. Found out if you get there too early the selection is not that great since they make them each morning. Was warned that coming at lunch time would mean waiting in a line! Parking was no fun. BUT the cupcakes were awesome. This will be a stop now each time we leave Minneapolis!
