Erte is a fabulous staple in the neighborhood. Everyone works so hard, is extremely friendly and the food is outstanding. The ambience is always wonderful. You can show up is jeans and a t-shirt or dressed to the nines and feel totally welcome. If there is music, it’s always perfect for the setting.

So I don’t really rate on Unilocal that often, but Erte I feel it really deserves it. I am 5’11200 lbs, and lift weights often. I like to eat a lot, but I don’t like eating garbage, I like to eat good food. I have been to a lot of these«foody» restaurants around Minneapolis and usually end up leaving disappointed. Not the case with Erte. While looking at the menu i thought«Oh just another generic steak house» I was so wrong. For starters I ordered the walleye tempura fish tacos. Not only were they delicious, they actually had a serving built for a grown up, rather than a small child. Next I ate the soup, which was a green bean mushroom vegetable soup. Everything was just perfect, and once again they did not skimp on the serving size. For dinner i got the 16 oz New York strip, which might i add is very reasonably priced. I usually never use steak sauce but the house steak sauce was unbelievable. I also forgot to mention get the bread. The garlic herb butter they have, should be scheduled by the DEA, because it’s crack. Lastly, my dessert was the rhubarb apple crisp. It was awesome! Flavor, good portion size, it was honestly the perfect dessert. The prices are very reasonable. The staff was extremely polite, and very chill. Lastly, the way the place is laid out, and designed is very classy and tasteful. I am really happy i stumbled across this place. My mother who is here to visit also shares the same opinion of this place as well.

Delicious and delightful steak. Definitely felt like a trek out of the city but we were on bikes! We were there late on a Sunday night so service was probably 8/10, though they were happy to answer our questions about the neat building. Get the steak. It’s worth it!

Been living by here for years and didn’t think to stop in until yesterday. Great unique spot with live music, crab cakes were absolutely delicious.

Service was a little slow, only one guy working on the bar side. Friendly guy. Ordered the poutine for an app. Delicious and filling. The mushroom and wild rice soup was delicious but had to save room for our steak. Everything was excellent. Huge portions. Would come back

Ok– glad I got your attention. I’ve been lucky enough to have traveled most of the United States and had the pleasure of being entertained in some of the best restaurants from Boston to San Francisco. I’m a cornhusker that knows a good cut of meat and the best way to serve them. Erte just set me back with one of the best bone-in pork chops with a blackberry demi-glaze I have ever had. It didn’t hurt to have the Dirty Bird blue cheese stuffed olive martini. The staff was spot on– the service was fast– the live jazz soothing. So please don’t come– I want this secret all to myself!

Oh, Unilocal. You never fail me. Haha! We were at Dangerous Man and got the munchies. We tried to go to Anchor for fish and chips but the wait(45 mins to an hour) didn’t sit well with our growling bellies. We wandered down the road like hopeless scavengers and I had the bright idea to pull out my handy dandy Unilocal app! You don’t even know how many times this app saves my boyfriend from my hanger attacks. Haha. Erté had some promising reviews compared to the others around the area and so we walked in. I may have drunkenly yelled out, «We cannot go to a place with over 100+ reviews but they only have 3 stars! I’m so hungrrrrry!» while walking past a few places to find Erté. Sorry, diners. My belly rules my being. Anyway, we walked into the cocktail bar side of the restaurant first and it was packed(we had a bigger group of 6) but the server found us a table in the restaurant for the entire party. Yaaay! I was happy to be able to dine with my fellow lushy friends. Wow! Were we nicely surprised by the good prices. So I got a gigantic 16 oz ribeye, medium rare, with garlic butter, mushrooms, and onions. Don’t judge me. I have a big belly(maybe literally). Haha. The boyfriend and some friends got the pork chop, the walleye tacos, and a big greasy burger. Everything was done very well. Everyone was very happy with their choices. And my belly stopped making angry noises. All was well again with the world. Also, the bill came and it did not make me weep. Haha. Once again, Unilocal was right. And I was right. Hehe. And if I am ever in this area again, I’m definitely coming back to finish that giant, perfectly seared ribeye. Wait for me! I will dream about you…

First, I will say that the ambience as stated in previous comments is beautiful and welcoming. But unfortunately when I went there on a relatively slow night my family and I received less than exceptional service. Two of our entrées came out burnt and dried. They were burgers and we waited for over an hour to receive our food after ordering. Needless to say we will not be returning again especially since this was the type of service we received on a very slow night. Overpriced for the food that we received and the service.

First off, ambiance is fantastic here. I loved the dim lighting and live musician. However, I won’t be returning due to the quality of food. I ordered the halibut which was a weekly special, and it was terrible. The fish came out extremely dry & over salted, I had to send it back. They brought me out another one 15+ minutes later(while my friend was eating her entrée) and it definitely felt like it took longer than it should have for a re-fire. When I finally received it, the fish was over cooked & over salted again! My friend ordered the jambalaya and that was extremely underwhelming as well. We noticed a trend, they don’t know how to cook proteins properly. Unfortunate because the restaurant has so much potential. I’d recommend only visiting for drinks, avoid the food.

I can’t tell everyone personally how great this place has been for us, but this is my attempt! I have only lived in the Cities for about 3 years, and I attempt to get around to visiting all the comfy-chill-neighborhood places I can try. I love this place. I am a server and the experience here has been wonderful each time we have visited. We don’t usually go out on weekends as a rule(we know how it goes), so Monday or Tuesday is perfect to check this out! Half price wine bottles are a serious plus– and some great recommendations by the staff! Atmosphere is open, classic, and welcoming. In a world of fancy-shmancy-trendy-uptown joints mostly overdoing it(and uppity people who pay for it) I am glad that an upscale supper club type place still exists in a beautiful historic space like this. Parking is annoying in the winter, but where ISN’T it around here?! We got steak. We got potatoes. We got salad and soup and tons of blue cheese dressing. Let me say– not only can you probably split something with your date/friend, if you were trying to do something similar downtown you would easily pay twice as much. This alone, without the great cocktails, deals, fun/attentive staff, would be enough for me. They really do have a little bit of everything that is good. I do wish that they had more seafood options– maybe oysters Rockefeller, smoked salmon plate… something other than Walleye? My only gripe aside from that is that they should update their website with accurate times for weekly specials and add information about cocktails. I think it would really help out us research buffs who like to check things out and make a plan before we commit to an evening. We are planning to return this week pre-V Day, and are very excited to try the poutine at some point(which has brie). I love sushi, crème brûlée, wings, bourbon, wine… all over the board. This spot speaks to my steak cravings like few others have. That is saying a lot, since when my family comes to town we sometimes end up at Murray’s. Thanks to Erte for being awesome.

I had the filet mignon. I ordered it medium rare and it came back medium. However, it was still very nummy. It was extremely tender as it should be. The mushed potatoes(definitely recommend) were excellent and the onion mushroom add on for the steak was killer for only 3 $. Just an FYI the restaurant area for seating is not open on Sundays.

I’ve never eaten on the Erte-side of the restaurant, I’ve always sat at the Peacock Lounge(the bar area connected to Erte). However the menu is identical. So, in this review, I will just refer to it as the Peacock Lounge. I love the Peacock Lounge. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I love their Tuesday half-priced bottle wine nights(FANTASTICDEAL). And the food… I’ve always had a really good experience with the food. The specials in particular are excellent but will sometimes sell out. The atmosphere is also really lovely — super chill, relaxed, welcoming. win! It’s the kind of place you can go to for either a classy dinner or some post-yoga snacks and drinks with friends. Some standard favorites: — THEFISHTACOS. Whoa. So good. The fish is fried to perfection without the slightest hint of greasiness. Textures, flavors, all great. — Erte Poutine. decadent and delicious — charcuterie plate. really great selection of meat and cheese, definitely a good value too. — flatbread specials. Changes nightly, there’s been a few that have been absolutely fantastic, I think my favorite one was the flatbread with ramps and sun-dried tomatoes? Definitely check out which flatbread special is being served. — the steaks and their soups. BIG fan of their soups. Never too salty, which to me — registered soup nazi — is a huge huge deal. And of course steak. Steak = yum. Get the steak. Yay Peacock Lounge!

Heard good things about this place while on vacation in Minneapolis. Excellent food and ambiance. NY strip was fantastic as well as the lady’s house sirloin. It was Monday and wine bottles were half off. Plus our server, Sadie, was excellent!

First time here for my wife and me. Anniversary dinner. Nice quiet Tuesday evening. The service was great! My wife had a Cosmo and I had a bourbon old fashioned. Both cocktails were very well done. My wife had the soup and loved it, while I had a salad of mixed greens with home made dressing(I think) and it was very nice. My wife had the walleye and really enjoyed it. I had the house steak(per Josh’s recommendation) and it was excellent. We split an order of au gratin potatoes that were unique and very good. We shared key lime pie and an order of Colorado peach and blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream. Both were excellent. Great coffee also from a shop in St. Paul. Great experience made better by our host, Josh, who is also an owner. We’ll be back with friends.

Fantastic service! Terrible pizza… I absolutely love the cocktails here! They have a great place to sit outside and people watch. NE needs more restaurants and I love what Erte has done to their interior. The ambiance is fantastic! The food on the other hand could use some work. Look, Northeast Social is a block away and they have their food on point, but they don’t have a liquor license but beer and wine. Erte, has amazing cocktails… why can’t we just merge the two! Dinner at NE Social, after dinner drinks and dessert at Erte. That’s my suggestion…

Not everything in this world needs a revamp, but Erte is the exception. It’s a NE semi-institution that has never changed, and unfortunately the way this plays out for them is that it’s stagnant, boring, trite. Those are pretty harsh words, no? Unfortunately for Erte, I think they’re completely deserved. Everything on both the cocktail and the dinner menu is outdated. There’s a difference between classic and oddly reminiscent of times past. Erte is the latter. I went there for a special occasion lately and it was the exact same experience as it was when I went there for special occasions in years past. While there’s something comforting about this sometimes, at Erte it shows up as unoriginal. The best thing about their menu is truly the charcuterie plate we shared. But this is just a meat and cheese plate — I would hope that putting ingredients on a board would be good. The steak and the chicken could have been a meal we had in an airport. They certainly are consistent here. Consistently disappointing.

The restaurant, something of a Minneapolis icon, is located in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, and it definitely soaks up the character. Nicely decorated with an eclectic mix of artwork on the walls, Erte had a special beauty dressed up for the holidays when we made this visit. This is a very popular place, and on weekends, you’d better be there by 6pm if you don’t have a reservation. Parking is mostly street-side, though there is a small, secret parking lot I’m not going to reveal here that can park maybe 20 cars. I’ve always been able to get a slot there. Enough said. Even though it was a busy Saturday night, we were seated promptly(we had a reservation), and service was excellent throughout the meal. We didn’t have drinks this particular evening, though I have in the past, and they are fantastic. The bar here is big, beautiful, and well attended, and if you’re looking for a great happy hour or a place to meet a friend or date for a drink, I can recommend it highly. The food is fantastic. One of the reasons I like Erte is that they have such a broad range of menu options, from the simple, humble hamburger, to terrific steaks, to a nice selection of other offerings. We both started with salads, and they were fresh and well-prepared. The Bowstring Walleye, on top of being a gigantic portion, is absolutely delicious — the best I’ve ever had. The flatbread pizza on the appetizer menu is awesome as well — the ingredients vary nightly, so if you’re a picky eater, ask what’s on it. We were in the area to see a play later in the evening, and if you’re attending a special event in the Arts District, you will not be disappointed with Erte. Dress of the clientele varies from breathtaking couples in cocktail dresses and suits, to people in sweaters and jeans. The cool thing is, you won’t feel out of place either way. Oh, and, they take reservations! Really a great experience here.
