Foiled Again Salon

Shana continues to do a killer job though I recently found out she moved down to Konawerks Hair Shop on Lowry. I’ve heard good things about them and will be following down there.

I love this place! Unfortunately I live out of the area and only visit MN once a year or so when I see my relatives. Otherwise this would be my go-​to hair salon. My hair stylist was shana, who I highly recommend! She’s funny, speedy, and pays a lot of attention to detail.

I love Jessica. I’ve been going to her for a year now and am so happy I found her. I am first, all about my bangs. I love bangs! And she is the best for them. I also have thick hair and am growing it out. She’s skilled with thick hair. She also listens, aiding my growth efforts. And last, you just like her. She’s the girlfriend you’d love to have have drinks with and talk it all out with.

Foiled again is a cute little salon that doesn’t feel pretentious or uppity like many salons I’ve experienced. The salon was less important to me than the stylist, however. My main reason for visiting this salon was Shana. I originally found her at The Hive Salon and followed her to Foiled Again. I would have followed her absolutely anywhere. She paid attention to what I wanted but had some good ideas for me when I needed a change. She is the best stylist I’ve ever had. I recently moved away and am seriously considering making trips back to Minneapolis just to have Shana cut my hair. I’m going to have a hard time finding a stylist that’s so good and so down-​to-​earth at the same time.

I was reading over Amy McClanahan’s other reviews before I started writing this one and the phrase «best haircuts ever» kept coming up. let me add my name to that list: I’ve never loved my hair as much as I have since I started seeing Amy. when I started going to her five years ago (in NYC) was when I started getting random compliments on my haircut from strangers on the street. for me, trust is the most important consideration when getting my hair cut. Amy has earned my trust ten times over. I know she will always take care of me – and more importantly, she happens to be one of the friendliest, most charming and sparkling people you’ll ever meet. I feel so lucky to have her as my hairstylist. Go see Amy! She is a treasure.

Do your hair a huge favor and drag it by the ponytail to go see Amy McClanahan. After years of dealing with hairstylists who didn’t do what I asked, or, worse, did what I asked when it didn’t suit me at all, I fell into Amy’s chair, got the perfect haircut, and have entrusted my hair to her ever since. I have always come out of her chair with a haircut that is manageable, suitable, and (may I say it?) utterly flattering.
I have a thick head of wavy fine hair that can’t decide if it wants to part left or right, but Amy has never failed its test. Whether I’ve been up for a change or just want «more of the same,» she’s always known exactly the best cut for me. She’s helped me out of a horrible home dye job days before my high school reunion, and, what’s more, she’s just a pure joy to visit with in the chair. She makes me laugh on bad days, and cheers with me on the good; I’ve referred her to so many friends telling them she’s better than therapy. Seriously.

For the past 4 years Amy M. has been cutting and coloring my hair (in Brooklyn). I am loyal to Amy because she is consistent: I am always happy when I leave the salon; Amy always gives me a hairstyle I can manage; and my hair always grows out nicely. Also, Amy is funny, totally real, and a joy to be around.
I have thick, wavy, coarse hair that is easy for stylists to mess up. Amy ‘got’ my hair on the first cut and has been shaping it up and adding dazzling color ever since!
For several years I had long hair with beautiful caramel & honey highlights a la Amy. For the past two years I have had short hair (sometimes pixie, sometimes punk) with funky blonde streaks. Amy modifies it every time in a way that feels new but always like me.
Finally, I just gotta say that Amy is a real skilled hair-​artist. She knows the questions to ask and how to adjust angles and colors in a way that enhances my own personal features and style.

We are all so thankful to Amy (McClanahan) for continuing to fly back to New York every six or seven weeks to tame the manes of some of her long-​standing clients at her Brooklyn-​based salon. Not only is my hair ever grateful to see her, but over the years she’s become a real friend too, so it’s a treat all around. I’m a total creature of habit, and Amy is always happy to give me my favorite haircut over and over while subtly updating the look and giving me expert highlights. Wherever I go I always get complements. Run, don’t walk to go see Amy! You’ll end up with the best ‘do’ in town, and you’ll leave laughing too. She’s an absolute doll.

Amy McClanahan is the best thing that ever happened to my hair. I’ve been going to her for two years at her salon in Williamsburg and have consistently gotten the best haircuts of my life. She takes time to talk to you about what you want, how much time you have to style it, what looks good for your face, etc., and she’s not afraid to talk you down from something that won’t be great for you. (I’m forever grateful to her for not letting me chop all my hair off one day in a moment of pure stress.)
She also seriously knows her stuff about color. When I first started going to her, I was super-​blonde and sick of it, and she helped me transition back to my natural color quickly and painlessly with these really perfect glosses she does.
Also, she’s sweet and hilarious and personable and remembers your boyfriend’s name. She’s just lovely. Go see her.

I’ve been going to Foiled Again for about 3 years. I love this place, it’s located in NE Minneapolis and is really easy to get to from any location! I’ve been to both Thea and Jessica (she’s my gal now), they are both fantastic. I’ve been to many places in Minneapolis, I’m very serious about my hair!!! No one beats Foiled again.
I’ve had cuts, color and foil all have been fantastic, they have great service and their haircuts and colors are cutting edge and well done. Check this place out awesome independent hair salon! I now drive 60 miles to get my hair done there, they are the best!!!

Amy McClanahan is new to Foiled Again but not new to me! She’s great with color and cuts and I can’t imagine going to anyone else for my hair. I went to her first and now she does my husband and daughter. She’s cool, funny, and simply great at what she does. Thankfully she still flies to NYC every six or seven weeks to take care of long-​standing clients like us!

Reasonable, Talent-​laden, no-​nonsense, (I’d say «hip» but this place is too cool to have to try). Expect the best in this fun and funky little neighborhood salon. The rest of this part of Johnson street is really fun too. It’s good to be a Nordeaster!
