The people at Genius Solution Movers were pretty decent — friendly phone service, on top of email communication, but nothing over the top. They were much better than Local Motion, who wouldn’t stop pestering me after I called for a quote. GS was priced about $ 50 less than anyone else I called, so that was a bonus, too. On the day of my move, I was ready to roll by 8:30, and they were set to arrive at 9. Google Reviews raved about their early arrival, so I wanted to be prompt, too. The clock turned to 8:45, and I felt like a little kid on Christmas. Peeking out the windows, pacing the living room, freaking out the cats, I’m sure. An agonizing eternity later, 9:00 rolled around. The anticipation had worn off, and I resigned myself to sitting on the couch until they rang. What felt like another eternity later, they *finally* showed up at my door, at 9:06am. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and I was feeling a little bummed by this time. Especially since they didn’t have the paperwork ready to roll. We spent another ten minutes going over the contract and allowing them time to fill everything out. Once they were working, around 9:20, I felt much better. They were very gentle with my things, and loaded the truck very carefully. My stuff all packed up and ready to go, we hit the road for the trek to my new place. Our little caravan arrived at my new address, and one of the guys started taking phone calls. Like, he would stop what he was doing, stand in the truck, and talk on his cell phone. I started to get a little worried about staying within the two hour time limit with 50% of my workforce taking a break. Somehow, they managed to get all of my things up to the third floor and into my new studio in record time. I was thankful that they honored the price I was quoted — the gal in their office made a typo, so I saved a few bucks there. Tipped the movers for their hard work — in hindsight, I feel like I shouldn’t have, since they were late and took phone calls, but they got everything done in under two hours, and I barely had to lift a finger. A few hours later, I was less than thrilled to find out that a piece of my bookshelf was missing. Called the office, left a message, and went to IKEA to attempt to beg for a replacement part. Fortunately, IKEA has this amazing thing called a «parts library,» where they will sell you a replacement part in just such an instance. I was still super annoyed that the part was lost, but it wasn’t a terribly expensive fix. All in all, this was the smartest thing I’ve done in my adult life. WAY cheaper than renting a truck, rounding up friends, buying lunch and beer, and having to do all of the work yourself. Their follow up communication could use a little work — I’m still waiting to hear back on a potential reimbursement for the lost part of my shelf, but it’s not the end of the world.

I received a call 2 hours prior to my move yesterday in 40 degree weather with light rain in December advising me that they would need to reschedule due to weather. After calling around… all other companies were working. They refused to compensate me for the 4 day delay. Honestly, the only way the weather could have been better in December is if the sun was out. When asked if they ever move when it’s raining, I was told ‘no’. Don’t hire these guys if there’s a chance of rain. They’ll bail on you too!
