I haven’t rented from this place, but my dad does(43rd Street Apartments in Linden Hills, MN). When he’s out of town I have come by to look after his cat, pay the rent, etc. The last time he was gone I had to call Centerpoint because the stove was leaking gas. The property manager showed up and walked in on me sitting in a neighbor’s unit as I was breastfeeding my daughter and proceeded to harass me about when my dad was going to come back and tell me that I(not one of his tenants) needed to clean his place up. The next time my dad was gone I went to pay the rent and the same guy tried to tell me that the rent was $ 100 more than it actually was. When I told him I’d already written the check out and didn’t have another he got on the phone with the office and started to badmouth my dad right in front of me. I waited for him to get off the phone before giving him an earful as to how disrespectful his behavior in the face of a stranger was. If you rent from him beware. This is a man who feels the need to control everything around him, but has so little regard for anyone that his world is crumbling around him. Protect yourself, keep records, get everything in writing, don’t let him drag you down with him.

I rented from John Klinker at 3310 Fremont Ave South in Uptown. I could deal with the fact that nothing was ever fixed that was requested, or even that after six months of asking I was never given a copy of our lease. The worst part about renting from this man is that after leaving the state he sued me for not giving notice, damages to the apartment, cleaning, and two months rent, a grand total of about $ 1500 dollars, not including my security deposit of $ 600. After he tried to use fake pictures of a disgustingly dirty apartment as evidence we met up in court where we spoke in the hallway before facing the judge. I asked him to just take our security deposit and leave us alone. He then proceeded to plead with me to pay him«Ok, $ 200 bucks then? For the cleaning bill?» «No, you have our security deposit» «Ok $ 100?» «Absolutely not.» «Split the difference, $ 50 bucks» he asked again, so pathetic sounding I can still hear it! It had been months and months back and forth about this, I even drove from Missouri to go to court, and it came down to $ 50 bucks! It was absolutely insane, I couldn’t believe it, after all he put me through he still wanted more. I never paid him another dollar but he kept our security deposit of course… Stay far far away from this man and his«management» or you will certainly regret it.

Avoid this company if you value your time, health, and sanity. When I first looked at the apartment I currently rent, the unit was a mess. The people who lived here previously did not take care of the premises, and it was a mess. The guy who showed it to me, Dan, said that they would clean it before I took possession. It was a good deal on the rent for the area, and I foolishly took him at his word. When move-in day came, the place was still a mess, and when I arrived, Mary(the«gal in the office») was«cleaning» marks off the walls. I put cleaning in quotation marks because there is no evidence of their having done any work anywhere in the unit. My guess is that they arrived just minutes before we did and looked busy as we came in. In the time that I’ve been here, the only way that I’ve been able to get any repairs done is to threaten legal action. Even then, the«repair work» is beyond shoddy. They say that they’ll send a contractor, but every time I’ve been here it’s Dan, the super, who does the actual work. Messages left at the office go unanswered. When I spoke with housing inspections, they said that my case got confused with other complaints. They also do business as Fremont Apartments. Stay away from them at all costs.

Owned by one of the worst slumlords in MN, GV Management and its agents(Kleinman Realty Co) should be avoided, no matter how cheap the rent seems. The owner, JOHNKLINKER, is the defendant in literally dozens of actions– they actually know him by name at the Hennepin County courthouse! Once they have you locked into a lease they will not return your phone calls or respond to maintenance requests. You may or may not have heat in the winter. You will also have to sue him for your damage deposit, because he NEVER returns it unless ordered by a judge. Do yourself a favor and ask who a prospective apartment is owned/managed by, and do your research BEFORE you sign a lease!!! If you think slumlords don’t wander into nice neighborhoods like Linden Hills, think again. I rented from Klinker at 2715 W 43rd St. and went two winters without heat. You have been warned!
