I grew up in fabric stores because of my mom’s passion for sewing. I used to tag along(although, I had no choice as a kid) when mom would shop at Minnesota Fabrics BEFORE it was renamed Hancock Fabrics. My mom’s flair for sewing and crafts rubbed off on me and I now carry the fabric store torch. Size and selection-wise, Hancock is smaller in comparison to the Edina Jo-Ann’s store but comparable to most of the other Jo-Ann locations. The price is higher at Hancock, too, BUT I’m giving this location 4-stars instead of 3 because of their service. If I need attention over a project and my mom isn’t available, Hancock is where you go for advice because they’re nice, helpful, and patient! A bit more of a small town feel, you might say. You can also sign up for their coupons which you can time just right to save on everything(if you pay the non-sale prices, it’s silly-high in cost).

There was a nice big selection of stuff to choose from here, and there seemed to be an adequate amount of staff working. The woman who helped me check out was extremely friendly and talkative, and helped cut the fleece that we had picked out. The store has just about everything you could ever want if your a crafter. They have vinyl, fleece, thread, buttons, stuff for dresses, stuff for blankets, just about everything essentially! Cool place to go and poke around even if your not looking to purchase anything. The atmosphere breeds creativity! :)

The ladies working there were really nice and helpful. I ended up buying my first sewing from the Bernina saleswoman in the store and found her very helpful in finding one in my price range. Also the staff was great. The woman cutting my fabric actually prevented me from buying some overpriced fabric and going back to look for something much cheaper. So instead of buying fabric at 12.99 a yard I got something I liked even better for only 3.95. She was also really helpful with helping me figure out how to make what I was planning on making. I only gave them a four out of five because it was kind of hard to find things in the store. They were also missing some of the stuff I needed. Other than that, it was great. :)

Sorry ladies but this store was dingy, poorly lit, weird crowd and it took me more than 10 min to check out. I’m pretty patient when it comes to issues behind the counter, I’ve been there and i know what it’s like. but you do need to train your staff. One of the workers was trying to make an exchange, seemed like a hassle and she had to keep bugging the girl next to her to see how to do it. A 3rd girl showed up to give breaks, completed the return and then tried to check out for a new purchase which didn’t work for some time. the whole time I’m waiting to purchase a solitary zipper. i thought i might want to browse the store but the selection was so meager(*note i wasn’t buying fabric, but sewing accessories) that i got what i needed and left. JoAnn’s is always busy but it is better lit and has a wider selection
