I attended my first Internet Cat Video Festival at CHS Field in St. Paul yesterday. Venue was good, crowd lively and funny. But the videos were just meh. You can see most of them on YouTube and I get that the real attraction is seeing them with a whole crowd of cat video enthusiasts, but perhaps the genre has jumped the shark? Perhaps almost all of the cats-doing-silly-things have already been filmed, there just weren’t enough of those. And there were too many slickly produced MTV-style cat-themed shorts: weird people with cat heads; cat photos animated to music. Videos didn’t start till 8:30 pm on a weeknight, making this less than ideal for children.
