You’ve all had one of those days where you want to change your life and start saying ‘Yes’ to everything. It worked for Jim Carrey in that one movie and, although I never watched it, I’m sure the message was something to the effect of ‘Open your heart to new experiences and your life might change for the better.’ Hey, messages in movies, you are oftentimes wrong and hurt me in my ladyparts. I took one of the pole exercise classes and almost immediately realized it was a mistake. Not only am I a klutz, but I’m also soft-skinned, dainty and prone to bruises. I am TOUGH, in that I can fight people, but I can’t fight gravity. Even though the class was supposed to be for beginners, the instructor seemed to expect us to pick up the moves and got frustrated when I couldn’t. Some people just aren’t very coordinated! I felt like a failure(moreso than usual), but I kept trying. I had bruises all over and I’d rubbed a lot of skin off my hands. I did really enjoy the non-pole classes, such as Samantha’s cardio class and yoga class. The yoga is not authentic yoga; you get some cleverly disguised sit-ups and push-ups, but if you buy a package of classes at Knockout, it’s worth taking.

I started working out here over a year ago because of a groupon I bought. I never thought I was strong enough for pole dancing, but working out here and taking classes from the amazing, positive and motivating teachers, this place has raised my self esteem and pushed me to new limits. I love the welcoming atmosphere and it’s the pole classes are the perfect combination of dance and strength training.

I’ve found a class here that I love the most — it’s the best fitness class that I’ve ever taken in the ten years that I’ve been searching for the perfect one. Cardio Sculpt with Samantha(I hope that I remembered her name correctly!) is on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 12 – 1. You’re going to be sore afterward, I’m not going to lie, but it’s an amazing comprehensive workout that hits every single part of your body. If you can make the mid-day class time work then you should definitely give it a whirl. I always leave feeling super energized and empowered, which is exactly how I want to feel after busting my a** for an hour. Samantha is a great instructor and keeps you going even when you feel like you’re too pooped to carry on.
