I come here often mainly for their all-you-can eat sushi & i’ve never been disappointed. Some people think it’s expensive but I’d say it’s a pretty good deal. Obviously their lunch AYCE is little cheaper so if you’re looking for something more affordable, I’d recommended going lunch time. The restaurant is always clean, the service is quick, and the staffs are great at following up with your orders, refilling water and clearing out your table. The menu offers a great variety from sushi rolls to sashimi, to noodles/ramen, teriyaki, tempura, nigiri and more! I love their sushi rolls; it’s tastes amazing! My favorites are the Philadelphia, spider, caterpillar, dynamite & Kyoto. Sashimi are great as well & they’re always served fresh! The only thing I wish they could expand more on in their menu are the drinks. They have a lengthy list of wine choices but they do not serve hard liquor at all. However, they do serve specialty cocktails which will change from to time & they do serve Sake! Anyways, i’m glad that there is finally a location here in the south Minneapolis area so I don’t have to travel all the way to Roseville. It’s about time that there is one here.

I doubt that the food here is not clean and fresh! We just went home after eating the buffet here. My bf is feeling nauseous. He really wants to vomit. He ate sashimi, i didn’t. So be careful of the sashimi here !!!

Okay. Please keep in mind that this is all-you-can-eat sushi. It’s not the greatest quality but it hits the spot. And excuse me, but yes I WILL stuff my face with miso soup, edamame, fried scallops, seafood ramen, vanilla ice cream, nigiri, and as many rolls as I can possibly eat for $ 15. Avoid the peanut roll at all costs; it is gross. Came here for dinner once… not as good of a deal as lunch time. The«expanded» menu at dinner time isn’t really worth an extra $ 15. The sexy girl roll is pretty good.

This I believe is a chain. They do a good job here. Service is always excellent. Nice options on the all you can eat menu. You can opt for the regular menu. Just saying. There are a few more options on that menu.

My boyfriend and I stopped in tonight for dinner. He got the spicy salmon rolls while I got the shrimp teriyaki meal. The sushi was good according to him, and I was very pleased with my salad dressing and the amount of shrimp I got with my meal. I couldn’t finish it all. However, his roll came out way too early– he was done with his sushi before my shrimp made it to the table, and he’s not one to scarf down sushi. Staggering our order would’ve been nice. The waitress did her job just fine but was a little icy. Overall, it was a nice meal with fair service. We’ll be back sometime to try the AYCE option.

I reluctantly went to Kyoto Uptown because Origami Uptown was not open for lunch. I had never been to Kyoto before, but my friend wanted me to try it. The sushi is of the«tuna scrape» variety(see link below). I took one bite of a dynamite roll and knew it was just wrong. The rice was all gummy and I just find fish scrape revolting. Service was OK, but the best service in the world can’t make up for bad sushi. Shrimp and vegetable tempura were bland. All-you-can-eat sushi is a horrible idea.

Nopenopenopenopenopenopenope. Fuck this place. All I wanted at 9pm on a Tuesday was some damn sushi without leaving the comfort of my apartment. Kiku wasn’t delivering anymore so I was like what the hell, I’ll give this 3 star sham of a sushi restaurant a fighting chance. I’m still mad at the shit they sent me via BiteSquad claiming it was sushi. All of the fish had turned and tasted bad — not just bad as in not good(but it was definitely gross), but also bad as in not within an acceptable timeline to still be serving it fucking raw to a paying customer. It should have been used for fish stock or to feed the stray cats. I ended up throwing out 11 pieces out of the 18 pieces of sushi I ordered. I threw money away. Literally. *Kani Salad. Have you guys ever heard of lettuce? Just curious. Because when I think of the word«salad» — I assume I’ll have something green on my plate. Not just a glob of «crab». Half of this got thrown out because there was nothing to it. *Spicy Tuna. The tuna was turning brown. I didn’t notice at first and popped a piece into my mouth, then I spit it out. It was horrible. Gas station sushi is better than that shit. *Boston Roll/Spicy«Crab». It looked alright. It had the appropriate nuclear orange color of imitation crab. It tasted horrible too. I ate 2 pieces out of spite. *Dynamite Roll. I actually ate 4 pieces of this roll because how do you fuck up fried shrimp? I figured since the shrimp was cooked it had the least amount of bacteria in it, so I manned up and ate half of it. It still didn’t taste good. In fact, it didn’t taste like anything — so that was… different. *Miso Soup. It was miso soup. It served its purpose as soup. *Fried Spring Rolls. Wtf. Just call them egg rolls. And they suck. Whoever packed the bag for delivery needs to be slapped too — they stacked hot soup and the fried spring rolls on top of the damn sushi. Why would you do that? Seriously. WHY? Just to reiterate… fuck this place.

I’ve never had a bad experience at Kyoto. The all you can eat deal is awesome. Fast service and good food. Not the best sushi I’ve ever had but still very good at a price you can’t beat. I’m always surprised that it’s not busier because the all you can eat deal is so great. Great location as well. I personally really like this restaurant.

Brought us the wrong order. Didn’t offer to take it back. We politely accepted it. Then they double charged us. Remarkably terrible service. Save yourself the trouble there are other sushi places nearby.

Very poor service. The waitress was not friendly and confused the order. She refused to take responsibility for her mistake and insisted that was our order. It wasn’t even close. We ordered two items to start but she came back with three and only one was correct. She stared to become argumentative so we accepted the food. She also was inattentive and didn’t bring any requested items(like sugar for the tea). It was midday and there was only one other table that was occupied. The food was average. The bathroom was not clean.

Poor service, poor presentation, chef cut very different sizes of sashimi when ordered. See photos. Out of hamachi carma(how it was spelled in their menu pretty sure it’s Kama). Way too much spicy mayo.

My boyfriend lives right by this place and we decided to give it a try this evening. I am by no means a sushi aficionado but I have a good sense of what is quality, and what is a good value. The electric blue«all you can eat sushi» sign didn’t give me confidence, but I set that aside in the effort to try something new. Kyoto serves subpar, low quality food, making their«all you can eat» dinner at $ 24.99 per person a complete ripoff. The best thing I had was the miso soup. Miso soup is one of the simplest soups you can make, so that’s no surprise. The Vegetable tempura was not very good. The batter seemed like it was decent but it was fried at too low of a temperature, so everything was slightly soggy. The spring rolls and their accompanying sauce were almost definitely prepackaged. The dumplings were half-fried. The filling was under seasoned. My boyfriend had the tempura and rainbow roll, both of which fell apart when he touched them with his chopsticks. The tempura roll was exceptionally awful. Soggy and tasting of nothing but oil and cream cheese. It sat like a sad sodden brick in my mouth, drenched in two sauces that added absolutely no flavor. Best thing we had was the red bean ice cream and green tea ice cream. Our server seemed completely uninterested in the whole affair. To conclude, I tried something new, and the low expectations I had were not even met by their substandard food and service. I won’t go there again.

Service was really bad. Really really bad. Food came out fast but the waitress sucked! She didn’t greet us and she would take our order and walk away when we were still ordering. She never refilled our water. Took about 20 min to get our check even when there wasn’t anyone there. Worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Don’t go. Stay away from this location.

Wasn’t impressed. I have ventured to many sushi restaurants in the Minneapolis area. Honestly, I would have to say this was my least favorite. The service was very poor — the waitress had no idea what was going on and the restaurant was empty, my boyfriend and I waited to be greeted for 5 minutes. We ordered the sexy girl and the Bc roll. Both were alright. The miso soup was pretty good. I wouldn’t come back unfortunately since it’s right by my place.

Ok, I admit it… I love eating sushi, but I’m not very picky… I’d usually rather try a cheaper all-you-can-eat instead of going to a more expensive/higher quality restaurant; but still, I can recognize when an ayce is NOT worthy! And I can say that Kyoto doesn’t have the best sushi I’ve had in my life, but still is a pretty good one. I’ve been to another ayce in Minneapolis and it was worst, so Kyoto is still my number 1 choice in town! I love their salmon Teriyaki plate — pretty small, but you can order it more times — and some of their simplier rolls: in general, I usually get tired of the too stuffed ones, but they still have some interesting options, like the Kyoto rolls, available only during the dinner ayce. Just remember to keep listening to your stomach’s capability ;) oh, and they also offer ice cream with the fixed price, and the green tea one is pretty good. I’ve seen on their website that they also offer brunch on weekends now, but I haven’t tried it yet.

It all balanced on the truth. The decision on whether or not to come back to Kyoto. We sat across from one another looking into each others eyes enjoying the afternoons’ laziness. I stirred miso soup, which was delicious, on a cold December day while our stomachs ached from the prior day of famine. Fad diets and trends which inspire one to live without it [comfort of food] every other day, what can I say? Positive observations: Our server, Chloe, was pleasant and visited us frequently. The sashimi appeared to be of good quality. Crisp and tasty tempura, not too oily. The sushi was good. Clean presentation. Clean bathrooms. Cleaner than expected floors despite it being slushy on the sidewalk. Negative observations: Frozen prepackaged scallops, ugh. My partner said with a grimace, «These taste like McDonald’s fillet of fish and I was hoping to have never tasted that again.» The shumai was also prepackaged. I am adventurous when it comes to spice and this food was not terribly spicy. There is no nondairy dessert, so my partner had rice flavored with pickled ginger. Now you may ask, ‘How an all-you-can-eat buffet could receive four stars?’ It came down to honesty. A fellow, who was not our server, visited our table and asked us how we liked the food. We said we enjoyed all of it except for the scallops. I looked him in the eye and inquired, «Were these frozen and prepackaged?» And without hesitation he said«Yes.» I shot him a look of disgust. He then reminded me with an all you can eat buffet, you’re going to have to expect some shortcuts. And he is right. For the cost of $ 15.99 per person, we had tableside service, exceptional good attitude from the people in the establishment, good ambience, cleanliness, and no over embellishments. I would suggest this restaurant drop the prepackaged scallops altogether. It’s just gross and probably a waste of money to purchase. We will be returning.

Here’s to the other person who rated one star and didn’t confirm the special; yet, decides to place blame on the restaurant! In contrast, I own my life, and I think I may come here every Week. Perfect!!! Let’s talk about things that are actually important, unlike this other person’s eyesight when they read the specials incorrectly: Restrooms: Immaculate Service: perfect Necessity of the server to speak perfect English: no! Menu: extensive Desserts: tasty Soft drink refills, refilled quickly: yes Ambience /energy: peaceful yet stimulating. Oh, and here’s to the person who rated one star because something **allegedly on the menu is poisonous and banned in 57 countries: false. Until you conduct a third party independent research study on the actual ingredient served by the restaurant(on your dime), then I declare your entire rating and«defense» of your rating as rubbish Tony C USMC Disabled Vet MBA

I went here for their lunch AYCE — been excited about trying this place since I saw their signs being posted in front of their restaurant pre-grand opening! I’ve been looking for a good Japanese buffet since moving out here from CA where I’ve been satisfied with the AYCE selection. Quantity wise and selection wise for $ 15.99 was good, but the quality was less than I expected. Their cooked foods are pretty good: 1) Fried dumplings were deep fried and not pan fried, so were like gyozas and were pretty tasty, 4 come in an order, 2) Curry chicken/pork was delicious with a slight curry sauce, 3) . Their raw/sushi was okay: 1) Salmon nigiri was good, tasted pretty fresh but was thinly sliced, thankfully the bed of sushi it laid on wasn’t too big so it was a good proportion, 2) White tuna tasted previously frozen texture-wise but was still very flavorful, 3) California roll was disappointing and I would try the hand roll next time, 4) Sexy girl roll was disappointing and tasted very monotone with flavors and wasn’t at all exciting or interesting, 5) Rainbow roll was okay but the sashimi on top were sliced very, very thin and so gave the roll a feeling of poor quality, 6) Unagi nigiri was average, tasted pretty fresh since it’s cooked so doesn’t lend to needing to be raw, 7) Zucchini tempura(4 in an order) was okay, good fried texture, but the zucchini tasted a little bitter. And the finisher, the green tea ice cream, was to be expected. Pretty average. I would definitely come back if I had a craving for affordable Japanese and wanted to eat an entire day’s worth of food in one meal, but if you’re looking for quality, go elsewhere. Their service though is fantastic — everyone is super friendly. They have a nice patio that they haven’t really taken full advantage of setting up yet. And the restaurant interior is somewhat dark, going for a more elegant ambience. Note: All their«crab meat» is fake, so keep that in mind when you read the menu!

Tried this place for lunch since it just opened near me. The all you can eat lunch is $ 15.99. Dinner is $ 24.99. There’s no buffet. You get a menu with no prices on it and you can order as much as you want off of it. It’s great because everything is made to order so nothing is sitting out. The menu was pretty big. In addition to a bunch of typical appetizers and rolls, there was tempura, ramen and udon, grilled meats, teriyaki, rice bowls, fried rice, and dessert. My sister and I estimate we ate about $ 80 – 90 worth of food. We ordered six sushi rolls, beef ramen, fried gyoza, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and green tea ice cream. The rolls are not the best ones I’ve ever had. But for an all you can eat restaurant, they’re solid. I’m also not a sushi snob. The fish tasted fresh. The rice was sticky. The fish pieces were on the smaller side but not to the point of detracting from my enjoyment of the roll. The gyoza was deep fried and came in the dipping sauce which made them soggy. Dipping sauces should always come on the side. And they weren’t drained well so were super greasy. They also tasted store bought. Wouldn’t get them again. Beef ramen was pretty good. Not Masu or Moto-I good but solid. Ramen was slightly overcooked. Beef was nice and tender. Broth was flavorful. Extra points for all the vegetables they put in. Minus one for no egg. The shrimp tempura came out piping hot and delicious. The vegetable tempura also came out hot but was so freshly fried, the oil hadn’t drained off. Still delicious. We ordered the red bean ice cream for dessert and were told they didn’t have any. Not that they ran out. The order hadn’t arrived ten days after the grand opening. We got the green tea ice cream which was nice and creamy but red bean is so much better. I still need to find a Japanese restaurant that serves deep fried ice cream surrounded by pound cake. Service wise, the staff is polite and eager to please. During our Thursday lunch, there were only 3 tables at the peak of lunch time, including us. They definitely need to get the word out about its opening or it’ll go the way of its predecessor Tiger Sushi 2. By the way, the crews did an amazing job transforming the inside. It looks completely different and is much nicer. Our only hiccup was that one of our sushi rolls was missing two ingredients. Our server was very apologetic and immediately had them remake it. The menu says you’ll be charged 15% of your bill if you order a ton and don’t eat it all(and no, you can’t order a ton and take home the«leftovers»). Overall, I had a solid experience. Definitely got my money’s worth! There are plenty of non-sushi options for my husband which is great.
