Spontaneous get together tried this new place for us. I’d definitely be back again, bar staff was great. Food was bar-licious. I’ll def be back again.

Fantastic portions very large. The beer was cold and the glasses clean. The only critique I can give is that the beef was somewhat dry which I found to be strange as this was a hot beef with au jus. Overall experience was pleasant and I didn’t feel we were over charged for the experience. The neighborhood is safe and clean.

My Northeast dive bar spot. Good for anytime of the day. Usually has a $ 5 cover on weekends if the band is playing, and the crowd gets rowdy after 10pm. I order food every time I go, and it’s served late. Servers/bartenders are super busy and fast-paced, but they know us and treat us well.

Mayslack’s is my #1 neighborhood bar. It’s got great music, great food, and great service. The waitstaff is awesome. They’re all friendly and attentive. Breakfast is an amazing deal, with a full 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for under $ 7.00. Can’t beat that! If you haven’t been there, check it out!

Soooo we came here looking for fish and chips… And I get that it’s Halloween but l, it wasn’t that busy. To be honest I feel neglected, we didn’t get any water until we had to ask, after we already got our food. It felt like she was rushed… And like we were a bother… Prolly just an off day but I was not impressed, when it came to the fish it was kinda watery and tasteless… Which eww… And when we finally got the checks she messed up on my roommate and my checks switching some items around… In fact it’s been about 10 minutes since she gave us our check and she still hasn’t taken my card… Well this Halloween mayslacks definitely gave us more tricks than treats.

Huge helpings of food, and have loved the meals I have chosen so far! Definitely a Dive bar. I’m a fan but I could definitely go without the homophobic writings on the wall in the bathroom tho!

I’ve been to Mayslacks a couple times now. There’s not much to it, but they do have breakfast! I’ve had the roast beef(good) and the french toast(also good but basic). The strawberries that came with the french toast were frozen and not fresh, easily discernible by the fact that after 30 minutes I was still getting brain freeze every time I bit into one. Last time around hubs got the club. It was huuuuge, he only ate half of it! Décor is pretty old bar standard. When you walk in you’ve got the bar, and booths lining the back wall. There’s more seating round back and a patio, and a small stage for live music. Be sure to stop into the bathroom(mens or womens) to find interesting things written on the stalls.

Was about to sit at a table and the wait person told me I couldn’t sit there unless I planned to order. Say what? Doubt I’ll be back. Kind of a crummy looking joint anyway.

The bar staff is extremely pleasant and attentive. My recommendation is you try the beer and whiskey it’s delicious. I also had the pizza here and was so pleasantly surprised.

I recommend drinking and sitting on the patio, but don’t eat here. The last time I was there we got the pizza deal($ 15 for a huge pizza and 2 tall beers) and it was decent, but tonight I had a burger and it had a foul taste. I had my date taste it too and neither of us could figure out what was wrong with it… The meat didn’t look spoiled but tasted like it may have been. I wouldn’t doubt if it fell on the nasty floor and they just popped it back on the grill. I’m nervous I’m going to be sick now. Needless to say I’ll be eating elsewhere from now on.

This place is one of the best dive bars in Minneapolis. Servers are great, drinks are strong and the food is tasty. Music is usually pretty good too.

No better place to go, relax, eat great food and sip on cheap drinks. I’ve been here on multiple occasions and have never had a bad experience! Whether I’m there with a group or sitting at the bar with a friend, the staff is quick to get my order and joke around. The Original Roast Beef Sandwich is a monster of a meal and lives up to the hype. Piled of juicy meat topped with onions and coleslaw, the sandwich is a enough to feed a few people. And you have to get the tater tots on the side. Nothing beats the tater tots at Mayslack’s. Nothing.(Sorry mom). The last time I went a ordered the Cajun Chicken Caesar salad and loved it. Fair warning — it’s very spicy(and I have a pretty high tolerance). But I loved it. Unfortunately, salads do not come with tater tots but convince your friends to order the roast beef sandwich and you can sneak tots off of their plates. In typical Northeast fashion, the drinks are strong and cheap. Each day of the week has a drink special and if your bar tab is more than $ 20 you’re either an alcoholic or are doing something wrong. The clientele ranges from lifers who have been going there for decades to younger neighborhood residents there for a good time. I’m pretty sure the Pedal Pubs stop there on the weekends during the spring/summer/fall so be fair warned of that, but even with those crowds you’ll always find a seat at Mayslack’s.

I don’t get all the hype surrounding this bar. It’s nothing special, food is ok, atmosphere is ok, a little louder then normal. Enjoyed a burger and fries with my bb and cousin there a few weeks ago. The real deal breaker was coming back 2 weeks later with a buddy just looking for a quick beer. The old white-haired troll at the door that demanded a $ 5 dollar cover and argued with us for a bit. We quickly left and went next door. $ 5 cover for what? I needed more then«it’s the weekend.» 2 stars may be a little harsh for né bar that is so popular, but not my taste.

My fiancé’s band played a show here a few weeks ago so I checked it out for the first time. I loved the deep wooden booths on the bar side where we hung out before they took the stage. I ate before I came which is a good thing — there is literally nothing on the menu that interests me(the veggie burger is Boca — which is fine, but I hate paying $ 10 for a reheated frozen patty that I have plenty of in my freezer at home) but the folks I was with really enjoyed the wings. Pretty typical bar food from the looks of it, but I can’t give a personal review on the quality/taste. Drinks wise, the whiskey diets seemed strong or at least strong enough for me. I switched to beer and they had a decent enough tap selection that I was able to try a couple of things that were new to me. The patio(smoker-friendly) looked like it would be fun in the summertime — and it was conveniently right near the stage. The stage-side was about as long and narrow as the bar side but with plenty of room to dance /sway /stand awkwardly a la self-conscious Minnesotans. By no means the best music venue I’ve ever been to, but it definitely had better sound and I didn’t feel nearly as cramped as I do at some NE spots!

My lunch travels today took me to Mayslacks. I was not sure what I wanted when I walked in, but quickly decided on a bowl of chili. After a few minutes, the bartender walked over to my booth and handed me a menu and took my beverage order. Another few minutes later she asked if I was ready to order. I asked about the chili and if it was spicy. She said it’s not too spicy, but a little. Ok, I will try a bowl. I looked around a bit and this being 1 pm or so. not many customers. A couple at the bar and I think 2 other parties in the booth area. This place certainly needs to have at least 1 bartender and 1 wait person. Regardless if the amount of business does not justify 2 employees in the afternoon. The bartender has a lot of ground to cover to be attentive to all customers, if some decide on sitting in the booth area and others at the bar. The bartender did a good job of being the waitress to. It is not her fault the ownership is too cheap to properly staff the place. My bowl of chili was presented to me. It looked really good. It came with a small piece of cornbread and 4 sleeves of crackers. I think most places try to get by with just 2 sleeves. There was a small amount of cheese in the center. Finely shredded. Not sure what type, probably cheddar and something else. I wanted to try the chili as is, so I did not break up the crackers and add them to my bowl. I took a spoonful trying to stay away from the now melting cheese. It was certainly spicy. The rule of thumb in chili tasting is if you are swearing, it is hot. If you are inventing new words, it is really hot. If you take a large swallow of beer or other cool beverage to cool the hotness, you will be inventing new words. Because all you did was spread the heat around. None of these happened, which is a good thing to me. Though I know others will think it is hot. My non scientific heat scale reported this was a 7. My taste buds are not sharp enough to determine what spices were in it. I can best go by what I see. There was some corn, tomatoes, celery and a little onion. Oh, yea, there was ground beef too!!! The chili was very good, but is a little on the soupy side, IMO. I finished my bowl, then started in on the cornbread. It was decent cornbread, but it seemed to be on the small side. About 2X2X ½ thick. I thought cornbread was a little thicker. The 2X2 is OK. But shouldn’t cornbread be as thick as a piece of cake made in a 9X13 pan normally is? I will study my cornbread more closely over the coming months. If I am in the neighborhood and I am wanting a bowl of chili, I will return. Even though chili can be eaten anytime of the year, my preferred chili season is January/February.

Super divey. Super good. I’ve been here a few times for the occasional drink/stop on a pub crawl, but never for dinner. Hubs and I split the Mayslack’s Dip. I’m not a huge fan of roast beef but this was delicious. Fresh french bread, sauteed mushrooms & onions and provolone cheese — YUM. We ordered the waffle fries and seasoned sour cream for a side. The menu has many options but everyone mentioned the roast beef being their signature, and trust me — it was super savory! Service was awesome. We were with a large group and the servers were able to stay on top of our drink orders even after we moved tables. Live music on Friday, so things were a bit loud, but nothing I didn’t expect.

Had my first Mayslacks experience last Saturday night and was disappointingly not impressed with the roast beef. Service was dismal. My boyfriend and I ordered the same thing and he didn’t get what he ordered. Also noticed later that we’d been charged for a Nordeast pint that we hadn’t ordered/received. Not planning on returning, plenty of other NE spots to go to.

Nordeast dive bar with super yummy food. The inside is quite dark, with those cool patterned ceilings you don’t see much anymore. The place has a grimy feel to it, but again, it’s a dive bar. Live music on the weekends with a five buck cover. The wings here are consistently rated in the«top wings of the TC» for various magazines/websites. My personal favorite is the jalapeño buffalo, just the right amount of kick. They are famous for their roast beef sandwiches — and for good reason! Last time I had the philly cheesesteak, topped with sauteed onions and melted cheez whiz.(Fake cheese is my guilty pleasure.) Oh, and the portions here for the roast beef are HUGE. Happy Hour is amazing, with generous pours for only 2.50. Can’t get much better than that. The bartenders are super friendly and attentive. Added bonus is the off street parking — a rarity in NE.

So they have a few good mood foods like their reuben and bartenders are nice. however later in the day slowly growing tight knit groups who’re friends with the bartender appear and you’ll feel less comfortable as they rampage the juke box and fill it with blue grass and country. Last night during bar close(2am) as were all finishing our beers(me and 12 of the bars friends) a door guy yells«finish up your beer harry potter!» i hastily finish my beer and respond«well that was pretty rude, but have a good night.» as i walk out(keep in mind theres still 10 of there friends with no hurry to finish beers) the whole staff is poking fun at me

This is my go to bar lately! All the staff is great, they are friendly, and are able to get to people even when the place is packed and busy. It’s fun to go hangout for a happy hour, or get out to watch a game. The food is great as well, large, and makes me feel like I accomplished something if/when I finish one of their roast beefs. The only complaint is they do get busy(seating wise) so get there early or just after happy hour if you want to be sure of a spot at the bar.

Mayslack’s is your typical American Dive Bar. Guy Fieri would love the shit out of this place. He should buy it and live there. That would be awesome… Well anyway… Last night some friends and I met up at Mayslack’s for a few drinks. We were hungry and in need of bar food, so we checked the menus and ordered. I had the Classic Roast Beef with a side of Onion Rings. I must admit this order was humungous, and dangerous. I could gauge this from first sight. I should have quit while I was ahead. When the waitress brought it out I couldn’t believe what I saw. My stomach started sweating and my friend’s eyes were bugging out, they started to point and laugh at me. One of my other friends was wondering where all of the toppings of his cheeseburger went, he got skimped. Let me preface by saying I love Roast Beef sandwiches and Onion Rings. I was about as hungry as 50 Cent was before he became famous. I devoured the Roast Beef and waited on the Onion Rings. The sandwich was good, a bit dry, but overall it had a great taste. The only issue was with the bottom bun. It became soaked and fell to pieces in my fekkin hand, #fail. I had to use a fork to eat a sandwich, totally awkward(smh). But hey, it was an interesting first. After that I needed a cigarette, it was that intense. My stomach had been touched again, it felt like the very first time. When I sat back down I felt re-energized from the first part of the meal. I was ready for round two. I then embarked on the Tragedy that would be the consumption of the Onion Rings. Everyone was telling me I would be paying for eating those things. My girlfriend was giving me a detailed itinerary of my trip to sleeping on the couch later that night. These Onion Rings were Brutality in food form. They looked so evil and sexy; they were blanketed with a pillow like brown batter, incredible. They were so tasty that once I started I couldn’t stop until the plate was clean. I wiped up the ketchup with a quarter of the last one and that was that. …Or so I thought. These Onion Rings were sinful, and they would come back with a vengeance. I felt full and I was pleased with the wait staff, beer, and the price per portion. We had a few more drinks and left. All in all Mayslack’s is a reliable Dive-bar. You get the dive bar beer and the dive bar food for the dive bar price. That’s about it… And then: The last scene of this food adventure takes place on University Avenue early this morning. Those Onion Rings were deadly. I almost died walking/running to the bus stop. I am not absolutely sure what it was-if it was the quantity of alcohol consumed, or the grease factor of the Onion Rings, but this morning I was paying out the ass for the meal I had. I was ill. Imagine a person clutching their bum running down an icy sidewalk near campus in hopes of finding an unlocked building with a bathroom. Frantic thoughts wracked my brain. I almost lost it. And that was my morning. I came out of this Onion Ring malaise funk at around 3 pm today. I am not the Lord of the Rings. I was owned by them. Maybe if you go here go easy on the food. I will be back for more, but I know that great things do not come without a great cost. The beer was good and the service was pretty decent.
