This restaurant is a hidden gem. Small and the take out is amazing. It is done in 10 minutes and if you get a large entre the to go boxes do not close because food is over flowing. Very good flavor and lots of vegetables in many of the chicken dishes I have tried. They a very nice.

A very kind and courteous couple run this little restaurant that has a steady flow of take out business. Their Chinese fried rice is hands down the best in the twin cities. Their combo meals are extremely budget friendly and large portions. Best thing is the food tastes great. If you want the Americanized versions they certainly have it but they do dish up some more traditional fare like salt & pepper squid and chow fun. Regardless if it’s real or not real Chinese food, the bottom line is the food’s tasty and cheap. That’s what matters!

One word. D-I-V-E. Second word. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I’m nursing a cold and my friend mentioned this place to me before saying that their wonton soup cures all. Ahoy! I ordered the subgum wonton soup(by mistake, really) and the chicken lomein. Subgum means varied and usually with mixed vegetables in Cantonese. This version had the most flavorful broth with huge pieces of poached chicken, grilled pork, pea pods, carrots, and cabbage. I originally wanted to order the traditional version but so happy I ordered this one! Frankly, one of the best wonton soups I’ve ever had. Anywhere. Lomein was greasy and bursting at the seams in the takeaway box and standard fare, but tasty. Enormous portions. I would definitely order ahead and online if you can. I’ll do that next time to overcome any language barrier. The bulk of their business seems to be takeaway orders, but the older couple that works here is adorable. I will definitely be back!

This is arguably the best Chinese food I’ve had in Minneapolis. The lo mein is everything I could have dreamed — the noodles are the right size, the flavor is perfect, and the portions are huge. The cream cheese wontons are simple in the best way. Also, the restaurant is really well put together. When I was waiting for my food, I noticed the décor, and it’s really nice. I’d definitely come and have lunch here.

Yaaasss! Best fried rice you will EVER get at a chinese restaurant and one small order will feed one for days! The general chicken, sesame chicken, fried shrimp, lo mein, egg foo young, chung ching chicken… all the bomb. The eggrolls are tasty for chinese style eggrolls, lots of meat inside and pretty big. The cream cheese wontons are meh. If you like sweet cream cheese wontons you might be disappointed. I love this place dearly and I love the owners too.

I have been coming here for years now, my neighborhood Chinese take out place. I know there are plenty of other Chinese options around but Mei Inn is my favorite. You just need to know what to order. The fried rice… OMG…it’s the best ever!!! I“m not sure what all spices she puts in it but it’s a must have with every order. Also the pan fried dumplings are a usual part of the order, they kind of resemble pot stickers but are more substantial and filling. The teriyaki chicken comes on skewers, marinated and cooked to perfection. I’m also partial to the chicken chow fun and the Sesame chicken too. The chow mein is how it should be, not overly reliant on celery. The chicken wings are good too. The now have online ordering available but I haven’t tried that yet, usually call in the order and in 20 minutes it’s ready. the inside of the place itself isn’t going to win any decorating awards but with food this good, it doesn’t matter plus most people seem to be there for take out. It’s rare I see more than one or two of the booths being used. It’s in a tiny little strip mall with limited parking but there’s plenty of parking on the street if needed.

This shit is da bomb. For real. Best fried rice ever and the lo mein rocks. The best thing is the sesame chicken has sauce on the side. The cream cheese wontons rock. The chow mein is effing amazing. The meat is mixed in(unlike fongs, which makes it dry). The egg foo young… Effin fantastic! Fav thing on the menu, I think. Honestly, everything I tried has been da bomb. Exempt the subgum. That was different. But i also broke my subgum virginity here so I might just not like subgum.

Finally got around to trying the nearest — and now dearest — chinese joint in our ‘hood. After a long day of working on pulling together our bathroom, we were starving and ordered a lot! We got the egg fu young combo which came with wings and fried rice. The Egg Fu Young was so amazing, I was wishing i had just gotten the full order of just that! But the wings and fried rice were perfectly done as well. Lo Mein noodles with chicken was really tasty and we also got the kung pao shrimp. We had a few delicious meals out of the food we ordered and we also were housing like champs due to some heavy labor work on the house and not eating much earlier in the day. So it could have definitely stretched into 4+ meals for two if we were eating normally! Needless to say it was awesome and we will definitely be ordering again.

They fried rice was amazing! The food overall was very good. However, I called in a to-go order and was told 25 min. I got there at 25 min and stood for 30 min for my food.

Mei Inn is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall but I’ll agree with the previous reviewers who mentioned that the food tastes fresh/delicious & is inexpensive. My husband & I ordered Kung Pao Shrimp & Vegetable Delight in plum sauce. Between these 2 selections we will each eat twice if not three times. The portions are really generous. Oh & the cream cheese won tons are also delicious! Get some!!!

You want divy take out like Dirty Harry lives on? This is your joint. I stumbled upon this place looking for a house and have been eating here for the 7 yrs since. Good people, great no-frills food. Containers are often crimped shut b/c they pack in sooo much awesome goodness. Try the Singapore noodles, mu-shu pork, and fried rice… they have some new canton fire pan noodles I’m stoked to give a go next time.

Great food for the price! For less than $ 10 you get a serving that easily serves 3 people. We’ve never ordered anything we didn’t like, but our favorites are the Mongolian beef & orange chicken. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s reliably delicious & fast.

Cheap, delicious! Only complaint is that the shrimp lo me in was a little light on shrimp, but we still love them and get them all the time. :) Fried rice is awesome.

Not much upscale in the restaurant itself. However, the food was amazing with huge portions. Two of us easily split an order of sesame chicken with rice combo. Great if you want to call ahead and pick it up!

CHEAP and good! I so wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood. The food coming out of there, is not the best or most authentic Chinese food in the world, but it definitely scratches an itch. We were able to feed 7 adults with leftovers for under 8 dollars a head. Service was friendly and prompt. And they threw in free cream cheese wontons with our gigantic order! Be sure to get the fried rice. It is pretty damn delicious. I think it was my favorite thing we ordered.

I don’t usually like to review a place after only one visit, but as I won’t be going back, here I go. Funky«dinerette» kind of space. It’s tough finding decent Chinese in So Minneapolis, so I was hopeful. Sadly the food was really oily and lacked any flavor. Huge portions though, so that’s something.

Do not let the appearance scare you away. My family stopped here on our way to Minihaha Falls after our first selection was closed for renovations. I’m glad we did because the food was excellent. My son and I both had combo meals which were portioned perfectly for one person. The fried rice is the best I’ve had. My wife and daughter both ordered entrees which were huge. They could have easily shared one.

I live in the neighborhood and have driven past this place for years. I rarely eat this type of American-style, fast Chinese food. Tonight I ordered their version of orange chicken and cream cheese deep fried wontons. I’ve been so pleasantly surprised! I have never had better orange chicken. Big juicy pieces of chicken deep-fried in a sauce that’s not too sweet and has a good amount of soy sauce in it. The bitter, thin slices of orange rind offer the perfect balance for this style for this American-style Chinese food. The cream cheese wontons are exactly what you’d expect; thin crispy wrappers filled with just the right amount of sweet cream cheese. Stepping into the restaurant is like taking a step back to 1970. It’s perfect! Beautiful service by the sweetest, cutest Chinese woman you’ve met!
