Muddy Waters is THE place to hang with friends over happy hour drinks($ 3 Old Styles after 3pm can’t be beat) on a summer day. The area this place resides in has become a mecca of cool with BLB around the corner, the updated Country Bar, and the UP/DOWN which recently opened. Tip: Skip the Iron Door… it will always be Cause to me. About Muddy’s, it’s a great place to have drinks, snag a coffee, or have some decent food while watching the people coming and going. My friends and I can be seen here quite often at the bar striking up conversations with the wait staff, who are amazing by the way, or strangers sitting next to us. In the summer, don’t sit inside, find a spot in the secluded patio alleyway, and relax. The chairs might leave you squirming a little with their iron backrests, but it’s a great place for a Tinder date, or a hang with friends on a warm day. Looking up, all you can see is sky. It also is a convenient place to ditch if your date has gone sour… with a lot of other options to go to if the date goes great! This place gets extra points for changing the restrooms to «whatever».

Eh, I wasn’t impressed. Came here because of the high-star rating, but I left hungry and disappointed. Had the Korean BBQ Short Rib — which was an Asian inspired udon dish. The meat was very tender and tasty, but the dish was very disjointed. It was kind of like coming home intoxicated and just throwing whatever you can into a bowl and hoping it works. The temperatures were all different, and the meal was far from filling. The hard boiled egg especially didn’t work on it — a sunny side up egg maybe, not not a hard boiled one. After I left I went down the street to a hot dog joint to fill up. Service was whatever. Décor was blasé.

Excellent food, service and tap beer selection. The Muddy burger and the fish tacos are my favorites for dinner. The brunch menu is outstanding with the exception of the crepes, they were cold and stiff. Not what I was expecting.

This is your typical uptown bar/restaurant. The food, while good isn’t great and is often underwhelming. I’ve gone here a few times and have received poor service each time. Due to the average food and poor service I no longer go to Muddy Waters. There are other nearby places with better food, larger beer selection and much better service.

One of the first places I ate at years ago in Minneapolis and still a favorite. Want to try some things outside your comfort zone? This is the place for that. You can bring foodies and classic palettes alike here. Always open late. Kitchen closes at 1AM everyday! Dinner and brunch are recommended.

We love us some muddy waters! Tons of beer on taps and the servers/bartenders always help us pick one out. Brunch is amazing. Get the blueberry waffle. I repeat, GETTHEBLUEBERRYWAFFLE. It’s freaking amazing. The sauce and lemonade whipped cream gives me life. As does Eggs Benny and everything else. For dinner, the harvest board is amazing and worth every penny. We split it between two of us and end up having to box up about half of it… So it’s a good amount of food. The only complaint I have is that the two-top tables are really small and the the tables all really close together towards the front of the restaurant, so I always try to get one of the few booths or a table against the wall.

I ended up here after a failed attempt at eating at another spot around the corner. The place looked inviting with outdoor seating, friendly customer smiles and looked like great service. Everything here turned out to be mediocre at best. For a Friday night we were seated quite promptly. My party decided to splurge on cheese curds, which turned out to be not fried. We were all disappointed in the cheese curds, due to the fact of them not being fried nor them being«squeaky» on the teeth how fresh cheese curds should be. Avoid the cheese curds and save your money on them. We ordered the Mexicali dog, which was quite delicious! The only issue for me was I wish it was dressed up more, more toppings and more sauce would have been appropriate. Our server seemed to be overwhelmed with the clientele that night and became confused or frustrated with how we wanted our bill split in two, 4 people 2 people per bill. That simple! We got our checks and the items were all over the place. Overall, for me this place seemed like a good spot for late night drunk food, but not for date night. I will give it 3 stars as it has average food and average service.

Great brunch at Muddy Waters! This was my first visit to Minneapolis, and it felt a lot like home in Austin, Texas. Beautiful outside patio, delicious food, and quirky vibe that I thoroughly enjoyed. On the brunch menu, I ordered the Muddy’s Burger($ 11) and a side of Yucca Fries($ 5). The burger was great and very unique with the chicken fried bacon strips(also– I substituted cheddar for blue cheese). It came with a few greens on the side, but what made the meal were the Yucca fries(had never tried these before). On the outside, they were crispy, but on the inside, they were soft and fluffy! Overall, I’d definitely come back next time I’m in town given the reasonable prices and phenomenal quality! There were a variety of options if love to try.

I love this place and try to meet up with my Minneapolis friends whenever I am back in town. The menu rocks and has a ton of vegetarian options, but items for meat eaters, too. We had a beautiful waitress who put up with us for several hours. I love the outdoor patio. The location of the new Muddy Waters is in a fun & vibrant part of Mpls. I loved the broccoli dish, the kale dish, the cheese curds and the mock duck Korean sandwhich. My rose was lovely and my companion was crazy for the cherry cider.

This place confused me and I am pretty sure it was confused also. 1. Is it a coffee shop or fine dining? 2. Are they going for fancy(nice, classy décor) or are they going for country(barrels on barrels) 3. Why did everyone who came after us get our food before we did even if they ordered similar things? 4. Why did our waitress fill my boyfriend’s water, but looked at my empty glass and walked away with her pitcher? 5. How was the bloody mary so bad?! 6. Why did the breakfast burrito have bland ground up hamburger in it instead of steak(or chorizo, bacon, sausage, anything but hamburger) 7. Was the breakfast pizza really just pizza with egg added on it?! The tomato and red sauce tell me that may have been the case. It was strange. One thing I am not confused about is that I left feeling real unsatisfied afterwards.

1. Don’t bother with the cheese curds. They aren’t served fried I was disappointed that they weren’t fried as there wasn’t any texture to the dish and the Dijon sauce didn’t seem to compliment them. Also, they didn’t seem very fresh, as they didn’t even squeak on my teeth! 2. Tried the Mexicali dogs($ 10 for 2) and Carolina dogs($ 6 for 1). Good, but unfortunately the bun to dog ratio was a little off– too much bun. 3. Service was okay. The bill was not split up in the manner we had requested. Maybe brunch is the ticket?

This is my second visit here and my oldest daughter requested at this time. She had a hankering for their gooey, rich maple bacon we tried last time… But we were told they only have it for brunch. So the adventurous souls we are, we selected a few things from their small but creative food menu. She went with the blueberry with lemon cream waffle. And I was torn between a lamb burger and a salad. I went with the protein and found out it comes with a side salad! The salad was not mentioned on the menu by the way. The waffle was awesomely good. The lamb burger… it was ok. If I could offer one tip, it would be not to ever order a Lamb burger well done. So probably my fault on that one. I love their Decour and it’s a great place to take your country-living-out-of-town people for a bit of eclectic people watching. :D

I’m more about the happy hour food than I am the drinks so if you’re all about the drinks then this could be a good place for HH. They have many selections of draft beers and wine but I settled for a cocktail instead. Totally forgot what it was called but it was not good. The taste of it reminded me of a cleaning product but I could not pinpoint what it was. I thought it was dawn dish soup, then the smell of body soap bar in nice hotels, to my friend saying it’s the orange scent of clorox wipes. Whatever it was, it was not a good drink. I’m sure we could’ve mentioned it to our server, but we didn’t want to be difficult so we just slowly drank it. This place was good for hanging out with friends. It wasn’t too noisy or overly crowded. Food was alright but we only ordered the wings with the dry spiced habanero. The dry rub was good and definitely had a kick to it but it was still semi pink inside. Our server was really great too. He was really patient with us cause he came by 3 times to take our drink orders but we kept talking every time he left and never looked at the menu. Man we’re so annoying! Haha. Anyways he was nice about it each time. They have street parking and then there’s a pay stall parking lot somewhat behind it. It was $ 6 for 3 hrs.

a nice experience with friendly service. Charcuterie was basic but satisfying. portion size was on the smaller end. fries… hmmm i love fries in general(duh) and they give you a lot here, but they weren’t my favorite. not crispy or salty enough. the rest of the food was great! hot dog — 3.5 stars, great toppings pork sandwich — 4 stars steak — 2.5 stars, good but slightly overdone burger — 4 stars, large and in charge I would try again, there were a lot of good looking things on the menu. a kind of dark and noisy place on the weekends, but a nice neighborhood gem. worth a try!

I really want to like MW. Upon moving here from the West Coast, it was nice to see some vegetables(and mezcal!) on a menu. I’ve been here maybe 4 – 5 times over the past few months and each time I have the same feelings: the food(and/or drinks) are good… maybe some people who work there were just having a bad day? I will try again when I forget about the poor service. Things I have not forgotten: 1. the longest elapsed time between visits was after a late Fall drop-in where our party of three that shared a harvest board and each had a beer thought our server had died because it took her roughly 45 minutes to bring our check after we asked for it.(We were there for almost two hours and it was NOT by choice.) Also, for $ 60, I would like a steak that doesn’t taste like leather and more than 4 pieces of toast to sufficiently convey the charcuterie… 2. This weekend, being told I could just go get up and walk to get closer to the very dimly lit rotating tap list after asking the server what was new on tap(?!) 3. That one of the bartenders here is FANTASTIC. Always seems willing to help customers find a drink that suits them and always really friendly and informative — if I could come here and just interact with that guy, I’d definitely give at least two more stars. Give him a raise. 4. That the drinks are actually good, though someone(if you have a party used to ridiculously cheap mpls beer pricing) is always bound to complain about prices. I will probably be back since it’s so close to home, but it’s getting harder to convince friends who have similar feelings about good food/blah service to come here with me.

Been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally made it over for brunch. We were impressed! Ambiance was super cool and the great tap list will get us back in for drinks and dinner very soon. We had the Breakfast Burger and Eggs Benedict. Both were really good but we were disappointed that we could not order the Yuca fries at Brunch. It was on the brunch menu so we were confused to be told that it was not a brunch item, but that wasn’t a big deal and we really enjoyed the food nonetheless.

We spent last night with two friends and had an overall good time, despite a long wait for a table. The wait for a table was close to hour and reservations aren’t an option for parties smaller than 6. The bartender must have seen our long wait and went out of his way to get our drink orders and engage us with conversation. Things really started improving from there. I ordered the Butcher Steak, which was a plateful of steak and fries. Although the food took quite a while to come out, it tasted like pure heaven to this guy who loves steak and potatoes when done well! Overall, I’d recommend it to anyone and we’ll definitely check them out again. Not without a party of six, though!

The food is here delicious and not just your run of the mill burgers and fries but the prices would make you think differently. We got the mock duck Korean BBQ tacos which were phenomenal and the General Tso’s wings, we also got some drinks off the happy hour menu! I would highly suggest this place if you’re looking for something different with a fancy atmosphere but dive bar prices.

This is one of my favorite places in all of the land. Always friendly bartenders and servers, the menu is a good mix of creative American with a touch of California fusion. I’ve never been disappointed here. The noise level is manageable, especially if you’re in a booth toward the back. I’d suggest reservations on weekend nights. This is my default suggestion when friends are looking for a relaxed environment, a good menu with enough to suit most palates and dietary needs, and a great beer list. And don’t forget about the cute espresso bar. :) Great work, MW.

No matter what meal you’re thinking about, SERIOUSLYGOHERE. Due to other restaurants not responding in a timely matter, I called Muddy Waters yesterday to see if I could set up a reservation for 14 people with only a 3 hour warning, not having any high expectations. They were SO flexible and put us in the back room, which was perfect. Our server, Vienna, was AMAZING. I had the risotto and it was SERIOUSLYSOGOOD. they have great coffee and alcoholic drinks, great atmosphere, great everything. I’m going to recommend this place to everyone I know!

I kind of a feel like Clint Eastwood’s character in Gran Torino as I write this review minus the fact that I am not racist or a crabby old man, but is it just me or is this restaurant super dark and the one candle that lights each table is not sufficient enough to help someone read the menu? Last time I was there I was THAT person beaming my iPhone flashlight on the table so I could try to figure out what to order. TBH I can barely remember what I ordered which probably isn’t a good sign but I thought the décor was cool and the service was good. I went because I wanted to order the meat and cheese board but since it was just me a a few girlfriends there was no way we were going to be able to dominate that feast for a table of 10. Decide to go with the Hawaiian burger and fries… which was essentially a burger with a grilled pineapple slice on it and maybe some cream cheese. It was OK, and i think it was part of their seasonal menu. The fries were pretty good though, they taste very similar to the frites from Barbette or the ones from the Minnesota State Fair. I think this restaurant would be good for a first date because it’s small enough that even if there are only a hand full of tables there, it always seems busy so it won’t seem overly intimate and quiet. plus it’s so dark that it’s almost like a real life instagram filter permanently turned on in your favor. The service is good and the food comes out pretty fast. Parking is metered outside because, Uptown.

This review is more specifically for the awesome service thanks to Jamie. A group of about 15+ of us came in as a part of my annual pub crawl. Jamie was super accommodating and let us move tables in the bar, then allowed us to just move to the private back room. She brought us all waters and was very good at checking up on us making sure we all had full drinks. For those of our group that got food, it was delicious and came out quickly. Jamie also gave us all the right bills and was able to close us all out immediately so we could move to our next stop. Muddy Waters basil bloody is also BOOOOMB! Thank you Jamie and Muddy Waters for the awesome experience! You will continue to be one of my pub crawl stops!

What an awesome atmosphere! We really loved the feel of this place and it’s in a great location as well. Seems like it would be a fun patio if there wasn’t snow on the ground. Great beer selection and a friendly staff — the waitress was patient answering our abundance of questions on the beer menu. There will certainly be something for everyone to enjoy here.

Came here for a business meeting after I had JUST eaten at Prairie Dogs at my previous meeting an hour before… This has got to stop! Ordered 3 items: Lunch Menu: Muddy’s burger — I have been on the search for a good burger and although I didn’t personally get to MOW down on this one but the presentation looked great and my friend hardly spoke during its entirety so I am going to give it a safe bet that it’ll be just fine when I com back here. Happy Hour Menu: Yucca fries — Delicious and sort of like a french fry with a different texture, a little bit sweeter in flavor and mealy. I suggest pairing it with something spicy because the contract really brings out a nice flavor. Sliders — The meat was and the pickled red onions added just enough flare! I am really a big fan of sauces but the horseradish sauce was really good but a little bit over powering as it looked like it was DRENCHING my entire slider: D I also hear that Muddy Waters has free wifi and is a great spot to post up and get some work done since its hours are so extensive. I will definitely be renting some laptop space there with my dirty burger craving money soon! Cheers.

Deceptive service Stopped in and was seated at 5:52pm on a Thursday while waiting for my wife to arrive by 6. Looked over the menu and noticed a decent selection of drinks and food for«Happy Hour,» running until 6pm. At 5:57, I waived the waitress over and said, «Let me get some things ordered while it’s still Happy Hour.» She replied, «Oh, I’m sorry: Happy Hour is over. And, you can’t order for someone who’s not here.» I said, «Ah, okay. But the menu says it’s until 6.» She explained, «Yes, but we’re on bar time.» «Bar time,» I asked. She continued, «Yeah, lots of places do it. Our clocks are seven minutes fast. I’m sorry.» Bar time? I got up and left and went to Fujiya sushi a few doors down, and dropped $ 120 there, instead. Happy Hour was until 7pm, and they never heard of «Bar time.» No one I’ve talked to since has ever heard of «Bar time,» as a basis for cutting off happy hour pricing, or for any reason other than clearing the floor at the end of the night.

We were looking for a pizza place, but Muddy Waters caught our eye instead. After walking in, the door guy greeted and seated us. The waitress brought over their dinner menu and some water for us. I asked about their cider and she recommended a cherry cider that they had. i was debating their fish tacos, but the mock duck tacos After deliberating, I settled on getting the mock duck tacos and a side of fries. The cider was not too sweet and perfect for a warm afternoon. The mock duck tacos were interesting.

This place wins major points in the«vibe» category — some cross-section between old farmhouse, bohemian bar-hangout, and trendy urban eatery. The«seat yourself» aspect was a little strange, and not obvious — the first employee we asked about outdoor seating sort of brushed us off, and we ended up sitting right next to the door. Our waitress was attentive, if a little aloof. The food was pretty good. I had the butcher’s steak(8 oz. hanger) done medium, which was plated beautifully with a huge brush-stroke like swish of green chimichurri sauce. It was a good steak — nothing more and nothing less. Might I wander in here again someday? Probably, but there are definitely other places in the area I’d check out as well.

If you come here on a date, you are in for a great treat! They have an amazing shared meal experience called the«Harvest Board.» As the name would suggest, it is a huge cutting board covered in a feast fit for kings. The board included a hanger steak, three types of cheeses, applesauce, various other sauces, prosciutto, salami, mushrooms, an entire vine of grapes, blueberries, blackberries, a salad, and many other things that would be impossible to remember. The best part was that it was only $ 40(for two people)! The steak was cooked perfectly rare, and the various cheeses(which were actually some sort of cheese blends or sauces) were excellent and complimented everything on the board perfectly. In many ways, it was like a «choose your own adventure.» There was no end to the combinations of flavors you could get with the various mustards, cheeses, meats, and berries! They have a huge selection of beer on tap, with many local or regional beers available, and a friendly waitstaff. They also have an espresso machine, but I didn’t try the coffee. This is a great place for either a fun date or hanging out with friends. It’s spacious, but very tastefully done so that it still feels intimate. I would love to come hang out here and just sit at the bar sometime!

Fish tacos, homie. Get dem joints. –My brotha from another motha, Duy. A couple months ago, I stopped by Muddy Waters for –you guessed it, their fish tacos. I sat down at the bar and chatted it up with the laid-back bartender. He confirmed that the fish tacos were the way to go. In addition to them, I also ordered the Muddy’s Burger. Why? Because hunger. And fatness. And burgers are tasty. K? *Fish Tacos: Solid. Not as transcendent as my friend had advertised, but it’s something I would definitely come back for. The batter they use rocks, and the fish –maybe cod? — came out crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The toppings of slaw, red onion, and sauce were okay. The medium sized tortillas that they came on were pretty standard, and I think could’ve been toasted just a bit more. Pretty filling.($ 9) *Muddy’s Burger: This heart attack inducing hunk of savory sexiness tasted pretty damn good. I mean, who can resist chicken fried bacon, grilled onions, BBQ, and bleu cheese?(Answer: Vegans.). I think some parts of the burger were overdone(the patty and bacon), but it’s something I would get again, too.($ 10.50) *Service: The bartender/server was a totally nice guy and the food came out fast. No problems here. *Prices: Reasonable price for the burger. I thought $ 9 for two tacos were a bit much, but it’s not ridiculous. Will be back soon.

Went here for a new years day bloody mary. The drink was very good, but not over the top with the fixings, I like the super deluxe ones with all the fun stuff in it. Regardless, the drink was tasty and the right amount of spicy. I also ordered the fish tacos. I have never had fish tacos before and these were amazing! I of course put a healthy amount of sriracha on them and went to town. Delicious. Service was great. We sat at the bar.

I went here for a girls night for light appetizers and drinks. We made it to happy hour and were able to order $ 3 glasses of house wine. Win! They had a full bar with a really nice rustic feeling. Overall, the place has a cozy and relaxed vibe. They had a limited food menu, extensive drinks list and even café items. I could see it being a great spot for a cup of coffee and conversation during the day. My group shared the Pot Roast Sliders, Chicken wings, and Yucca Fries. Everything was fantastic. The yucca fries were my favorite because they came with a delicious dipping salsa. The experience was great, our server was nice, and the atmosphere is great for drinks any night of the week with friends. I’d check it out again to explore their beer menu since that seems to be a big callout on other reviews.
