This café is located inside the Oren Gateway Center at Augsburg College. The café is located next to the school bookstore, and both are open to the general public. The food offered has recently changed. In the past — they were offering gourmet sandwiches(even though Jimmy Johns is right next door) and other gourmet style organic type stuff. Even sushi. They have now changed to a different menu with the place being operated by a new food management company. I think Sodexo is gone and it’s A’viands now. Offered now are burgers, rice and noodle bowls, Simple Grill options, and breakfast. Each are highly customizable with a number of things that can be added(turkey and veggie burgers are even offered). While the number of choices are good, the food still isn’t that good. It very much still seems to have that standard-restaraunt Sysco type supplier feel to it. The noodle bowls I’ve had have had too much oil added to the stir fry and were kind of gross. I tried a grilled cheese sandwich last night and it had so much cheese in the middle it gelled into a hardened mess(there was more cheese then bread!). Overall, it’s nice that they keep trying to change up the food offerings in this space. I really did prefer the food offered in the A-Place café or whatever it was called in the basement of the Christensen center. It just seems like Nabo is trying to hard to be hip and different. If they want a snooty, hip, organic food type deal, maybe they should just get Whole Foods to operate this lunch counter. By continuing to bring in different management companies we just keep getting the same corporate stuff.
