Great food and affordable! Beautiful view of downtown Minneapolis. I’m staying in the hotel nearby and I wish this place was open for dinner! Unfortunately I believe they close at 3pm everyday. The soup and salad bar is great all you can eat! For 10bucks. Do it!

Take the elevator to the 12th floor and you’ll find yourself at The sky room– a lovely place for an affordable lunch with a view. Choices abound. The salad and soup bar is located in the middle of the room. This AYCE salad bar alone was about $ 8-ish. Options for wraps, noodle soups, and other cuisines can be found along the wall. Since it’s only open for lunch, try to come early to beat the rush and find a table by the window and/or piano. Enjoy!

For lunch one day, my coworkers told me about this place on the top of the building where they offered a great salad bar. Not feeling too hungry, it seemed like a great option. The Sky Room is a cool open room full of white! White tables, chairs and walls gives this place a super clean, super open feel. They offer different types of dishes at various stations, however the winner of this place is truly the salad bar. You pay $ 8.95 for the salad or $ 9.95 for salad and a drink. They offer many types of items to build your own salad and toppings/dressings. At the end of the salad is a soup bar and premade things like pasta salad, etc. Great deal and great options! Once you find a table and enjoy your meal, you leave your mess behind, it’s that simple! Employees will go around and pick up your food and buss your table. I think this was an excellent option for a quick, healthy and affordable lunch. If you’re ever downtown, go check them out, above Macy’s!

All you would ever want in a salad bar! I was especially delighted by the edamame beans! The soups were slightly salty but other than that, I enjoyed this place very much! The view is also very nice from the 12th floor. Definitely recommend!

As a SoCal native, I was surprised that Macy’s had its own food court. If you’re from California, you definitely won’t see a Sky Room. They have a wide range of food such as their popular all you can eat salad bar, noodles, Mexican food, and the list goes on. I got myself a chicken panini sandwich with a side of coleslaw for $ 7.20. It was fresh from the grill and service was great there too! The Sky Room itself was all white and spacious. There was a white grand piano in the Sky Room but I think we just missed the pianist. We got there at a good time though when the crowd was dying down. A lot of businessmen and women come here for lunch since it’s pretty convenient to get to. I would highly suggest checking out the Sky Room for lunch because it’s a hidden gem, and while you’re eating, you have a great view of the city.

After navigating the labyrinth known as the men’ section(which I was very tempted to window shop and pick up stuff, but fought the urge) finally found the elevator to head on up to the Sky Room. I was told by a colleague(and via everyone’s Unilocal review) they have the best ‘bang for your buck’ salad bar… a.k.a AYCE. I was sold on the idea so we ventured to give it a try. I was shocked to see the huge open space(that offered plenty of light with its giant windows) that this place occupied and it came with a pretty decent view of the neighboring areas of the city. Even though it was huge space it seemed as though everyone else within the area decided to come there for lunch as it was that packed, but luckily we were able to grab a seat from some folks leaving. So arrive early of come a little bit later to beat the rush. The spread for the salad bar is huge with lots of the typical salad options including rice, pasta and protein plus fruit. You also get to try any of the variety of soups(range from 4 – 6) that they have on hand with your AYCE salad option. After the 2nd trip to the salad bar I called it quits, figured I had gotten my money’s worth. Don’t worry, if you are not a fan of salad for lunch there are plenty other options available(wraps, burgers, sandwiches, Asian, Italian, soups, etc.). I did get the chance to try one of their wraps(Asian variety) and it was filling but not as tasty, it was kind of dry and in need of some flavor. Despite that one incident I would still recommend checking this place out if you are in the area.

If you are in town M-F you must stop in for lunch here. 8 kinds of soups, I tried 2! Seriously and we aren’t talking boring soups, one was sausage and cabbage! About 10 different pasta/deli salads, about 4 – 5 types of lettuce, 5 – 6 types of bread to enjoy with your soup and salad. Oh and did I mention the view? The gorgeous light that filters through? The staff that comes and clears your tray? Where am I? Can I go back?

Nothing on this planet compares with the turkey cobblestone sandwich. The cinnamon bread coupled with the turkey, cheese, and cranberry aioli provide a combination of sweet and savory that boggles the mind and delights the taste buds!

2 great friends and I were celebrating a couple of things with a stop at the Macy’s Skyway Salad Bar. The best salad bar downtown if not The Cities. Q. Cumbers may come close, but I think of them a more of a really high quality buffet because of the extra hot entrées. For strictly salad bar, Macy’s wins hands down. For starters, they give Target team members 10% off, so for the all you care to eat salad bar and a soda, it comes out to less than $ 10. Solid! After you grab your tray and plate, you have three choices of lettuce. Iceberg, arugula, and spinach. Arugula please. Then add some diced up ham, some garbanzo beans, kidney beans, cucumbers, medium hot banana peppers, black and green olives, cherry tomatoes, fava beans, a little bit of fat free ranch dressing from their selection of 8 different dressings. Some pickled herring on the side. Top her off with some pumpkin seeds and crispy wontons. They also have about 5 cold deli salads to try. I got the pasta with feta. Awesome. They also have 3 different kinds of soup on each side, for a total of 6. I got the veggie and black bean. Super chunky and flavorful, with a rich broth. So good! I went back for another salad creation and it resembled the first one, but just a little smaller. My friends got the chocolate mousse desert, which looked really decadent and good. A few refills of my Diet Coke and I kept thinking to myself, «Why haven’t you been here in over 7 years?» I guess I kind of just forgot about it after going quite a bit in my twenties. The view is solid and lots of sunlight beams through the window panes. The presentation is very inviting and the service is always fantastic. It really is one of the treasures of downtown Minneapolis for salad lovers.

Best salad bar evaaaaaaaaaaa! $ 8.95 for all you can eat delish fresh salad! There are floor to ceiling windows, so it feels like you’re outside. Awesome place go when you want to leave the office! Plentiful greens, tons of fresh veggies, and lean proteins. I load my plate up with every veggie possible as well as various pickles, prepared salads like curried chickpea, pasta salads, etc. They even have soup, always including a veg option. The kicker is the bread selection. Those biscuits are . I can’t resist the carbs! This is an awesome place to go if you’re watching your figure or just want some great fresh ingredients!

Wow. Just, wow. I’ll start by saying, salad is not my favorite thing in the world. I love my veggies, but having just a salad for a meal… well, it just doesn’t cut it for me. UNLESS, it’s at the Sky Room at Macy’s! Great selection of different types of FRESH lettuce, great veggie choices, and the dressings are awesome. Besides lettuce salads, there are some great pasta salads, and soup. My older kids that eat solid food(who are 11, 6, and almost 2) also loved the salad bar, and the two older ones even went up for seconds.(It’s hard to get them to eat salad at home.) I had two helpings of the salad bar, and then 3 different cups of soup. The food that is supposed to be cold was cold, and the hot food was piping hot(in a good way). The other thing I LOVED about this place was all of the windows overlooking downtown Mpls. I will definitely be back, and so will my kids(who keep begging me to take them there again). If you love salad, and even if you just like salad, definitely check this place out!

Good value at the salad bar. Includes soup and bread, and the punch card gives you a free lunch on your 8th visit. Always good people watching as well!

I was there for the first time with my wife and kids this week. A co worker told me about it about a month ago and I walked up on a lunch break just to find it. I have been to this Macys every year of my life and I never knew there was the Skyroom until recently. The first time I came and didn’t eat I just looked around. They have lots of neat historical information including pictures and antiques. If you like the history of things you will like the 12th floor of Macys downtown. When It comes to the food it was super. I love salad and they hit it right on the mark. The salad greens were fresh and crispy. They had fresh bacon, high end cheese, meats and vegetables. All of the salad dressings are made in house. They have fresh baked bread and home made soups. I tried 3 soups and they were all excellent. They also had very fresh fruit and pasta salads. Everything I had was superb and the sentiment was repeated by my wife and kids. We all had the all you can eat salad bar but there are many other options that all look awesome. The salad bar is $ 9 and kids are $ 6 which is in itself a great value for lunch downtown. I will go again and I suggest the Skyroom to anyone looking for a fresh healthy lunch with great views of downtown Minneapolis. PS — go for the food or the views and the history and you won’t be disappointed.

Great informal, professional, healthy lunch venue. Vibrant energy. Overlooking Nicollet Mall. Fantastic all-you-can-eat salad bar. I believe this restaurant has the highest view downtown, except for Prohibition in The Foshay(which is not open for lunch).

$ 8.95 for an unlimited salad bar? Done and done. I intern near by and on days I am not motivated enough to make my own lunch or my fridge is sad and pathetic this is my go to spot and I’m sorry it took me so long to find it. The salad bar is extensive. Lots of toppings, several types of greens, many dressing choices, 6 different soups, great cheese biscuits and several pasta salads to choose from. I don’t know about you but the salad bar is my favorite part of a buffet so this place is like heaven. The only complaint with the salad bar is that all they have to soothe that sweet tooth is some chocolate pudding mouse stuff that I’m not thrilled about and the cookies/bars are like $ 3 and massive. Make some mini cookies or something Macy’s!!! They do have hot food and sandwich stations for you to peruse and the offerings look great from burritos to pizza to pasta to asian style noodles. You’ll most likely see me at the salad bar though.

When you walk in here, it makes you feel like you are at… a clean company cafeteria. The great thing is you have lots of lights coming in and salad bar is all you can eat for one price. They have a large salad bar as well as a few different food corners and they all have food of the day that you can see at the entrance. I decided to go with the salad bar(lines can be formed on both sides of the counter — vegetable selections are the same on both sides, but soup at the end of the line are apparently different. They may want to indicate soup selections before people get in the line). It was above average salad bars I know. And I assume it is an accomplishment. You can only make so much difference with lettuce and tomatoes, right? It is interesting that Macy’s would choose to have a restaurant like this. I figured as a department store(which by definition I thought meant was not the cheapest place for people to shop) they may want to build certain image. This must be Macy’s!

The Sky Room is a good option when you want to get away from your desk and actually sit down and eat a proper lunch, even if it is still a little harried. I’ve been here a couple of times and most of them to have their AYCE salad bar, but I’ve also gotten the cobblestone turkey sandwich from the deli section. That was pretty amazing: pretty much thanksgiving on a sandwich with a side of chips. Definitely a must-try. However, it is pretty hard not to get into the salad bar, since it’s AYCE for a cheap price. As one would expect, you have your basic greens, legumes, and other veggies with a variety of sauces and toppings. I do wish they have more types of cheeses. They also have some ready-made salads, soups, breads, and fruit; I’m only too happy to get my 2nd round of broccoli & cheese with a topping of croutons. I am a little annoyed that they pull out one side of the salad bar closer to 1PM. I’m sure they’ve studied dining patterns and know that the crowds disappear pretty fast around then(back to work, drones!), but still, it gives the impression that you’re not open for business or there fro your customers. Eh, I could live with that, as long as I get my fill of salad, soup, and more salad.

One of my favorite downtown lunch spots. The Sky Room is on the 12th floor of Macy’s on Nicollet. In the style of a glorified cafeteria, the Sky Room has a number of different lines showcasing a variety of foods — burritos, grilled cheese sandwiches, pastas, etc. I’ve never opted for anything other than the ginormous and incredible salad bar they have showcased in the middle of the room. The veggies are fresh, the chicken is well prepared and seems safe to eat(a rarity for a picky chicken eater like me), and there are soups, pasta salads, fresh fruits, and breads to accompany your lunchtime feast. It’s relatively inexpensive considering the amount of food you are given($ 9.90) AND they even offer a punch card deal where if you buy 7 salad bar trips you get the eighth one free! SCORE! The space itself is open and light, but it can get a little noisy in there — especially around noon. Also, there are two sides to the salad bar and each side has different types of soup. Grab a buddy and make them go on the opposite side of the line as you — or just be really friendly to the other downtown diners and they can clue you in. If I weren’t so frugal I would opt out of packing lunches and instead eat at Macy’s every day.

I’m a huge Mad Men fan. One of my favorite mini plots is in Season 1 when Don Draper is working to redo Menken’s department store’s image… how I wish that department stores still remained as classy and cool as in the 1960s– without the smoking, though, obviously– ick. Going to lunch at the Sky Room for some reason reminds me of Menken’s. It’s not that it’s super classy or anything, but the event of going up to the top floor for a lunch overlooking downtown just seems very Mad Men to me. I digress… This summer, as a past intern, we would head to the Sky Room at least once a week. Always gotta do that unlimited salad bar– it’s quicker than ordering something random, and really hits the spot. Nothing is more fun than having a food baby at your desk, post lunch, am I right? There are a ton of salad options, with some great protein options as well as some cool, unique dressings. The soups and pasta salads are definitely hit or miss. The chocolate pudding though… Mmm. Treat yo’ self. Sky Room is always super busy, and getting a table can be a huge pain, especially as a group. They need to up their bus staff or something– I have seen too many sad looking business people trying to find a clean table. Also– I know Target employees get a 10% discount, and I think some other companies might as well.

Great place to grab a quick work lunch, soak up some natural sun and some of the breathtaking view. Salad bar is AYCE, and all other items are made to order and served a la carte. The salad bar will run you around ten dollars, but they have enough variety and freshness to trump anything within walking distance for the price. Not to mention, great soup selection included as well. For this price, it really cannot be beat. PROTIP: It does tend to get crowded towards the end of the week, so come early! They have a ton of tables but people generally eat slower since it is AYCE.
