Today was the first time I visited the Textile Center… my reason for visiting was because Unilocal is co-sponsoring a clothing swap here with MN Fashion Org in April during Spring Fashion Week. Ahh, a great discovery. .I wish I had known about this place last Christmas… This place is a true gem. It houses a weavers guild, a shop, a quilting guild, a library devoted to fiber arts, and a museum. I’m sure there are a few other things they have here that I didn’t have the time to stumble upon either. I wish I were craftier… really I do. I walked around here today imaging myself immersed in a project or class, working dilligently on some fabulous project. Alas, I’m no longer delusional about my craft and fiber skills and know that unless I can afford to purchase such art, I’ll never own it as my skill set and patience just don’t allow for it. Come here to browse, be inspired or to purchase a great piece of art. If you have an appreciation for all things fiber, you’ll love it here. I now know where I’m going next Christmas for gifts — I may even sign up loved ones for some classes that I know they would appreciate.

I ride by this place on the bus everyday to and from work and finally stopped in over Christmas to check it out. Wow! They had a great holiday artists’ market set up with wares from many local artists. Scarves, kids’ clothes, jewelry, ornaments, etc. Some things were a little spendy but definitely worth it due to the quality. They also run some great classes for reasonable prices including a class on upcycled materials. Sounds awesome!
