I accidentally misread my Unilocal addresses when looking for a place nearby the Museum of Russian Art. Instead of the Blue Ox’s address, I accidentally entered the address for the Roastery. Oops! But what a delightful surprise! Jeremy was standing outside talking to someone… apparently he is only there 1.5 days a week, and we were there at exactly the right time. Serendipity! We headed downstairs and he showed us around(i.e. it stood in one place and pointed… it is a small place). Jeremy clearly has a passion for the bean. Prachee M already said a ton of great stuff about this. There is a lot of care but into the product… read her review for details. As for the coffee? It is around $ 16 a pound(with free delivery!). I had the brazil villa borghesi, and it was wonderful. Full bodied, not acidic(just like I asked for). If you value independent coffee, this is the place. Oh — FYI The Roastery is just the bean… not the brew!

I am an occasional coffee drinker because I’m picky about my coffee. I’m drinking it more often after discovering our very own roaster in the city. Coffee made from these beans was served at a meeting and on drinking it, I was immediately distracted and wanted to know where the coffee was from. Jeremy Raths roasts all his coffee lovingly and unhurriedly in small batches, with the result that no bean is underdone or overdone. He travels quite a bit to work with coffee growers and to teach them how to roast for themslevs. It helps coffee growers sell directly to purchasers, making a little more than they would selling to middlemen or brokers. But how is the coffee you may ask(you should be asking). Divine. Jeremy’s Sumatra is so well balanced and smooth that your Unilocal review will write itself. The minimum amount to purchase is a 1lb. bag. If you’re not sure what you’d like, Jeremy can help you figure that out.
