I was very unimpressed with my experience at Urban Bean. My roommate and I were in the mood for an afternoon pick me up. We stopped in to grab a coffee to go. The environment is not ideally want I would want if I were to stay in for a cup of coffee. I know it is very trendy for ‘clean lines’ type of environment but to me everything just seemed dirty. I was feeling a little flavor so I went with the«Bourbon Vanilla«. This drink is suppose to have brown sugar, vanilla bean and bourbon. The only favor I could taste was the espresso in the steamed milk. I’m not a huge fan of syrupy drinks either. I usually ask for half the shots because the Starbucks and the Caribous of the world over indulge on the syrups and sauces. I was very disappointed that I spent $ 5 on a 10 oz latte with no flavor when I was looking for something a bit flavorful. The taste of the espresso was great! Probably the only plus about my whole experience. The barista didn’t interact with us. She just carried out the transaction and that was that. Being from the Midwest, it’s almost awkward when someone doesn’t say«Thank You» when ringing you up at a register or handing off your coffee. I won’t be back.

My favorite coffee in the cities. They have a lot of innovative and different drinks, which is a bonus, but their basics are also solid as heck. Nice clean décor and a great location a 5 minute walk from where I live. The pastries are delicious! Fresh and light croissants, not too heavy and sweet. The only minor downside is that it seems like it can be hard for them to keep a consistent temperature — the other day when we were in the door was wide open and it’s the middle of winter. Other times in the summer it’s been really hot. But I’m more of a grab-and-go coffee person anyway, so that’s not a big deal for me.

The gist: Great coffee, great décor, bad service! We had a fantastic cold brew and sampled one of their attractive teas — great! The interior is really tasteful, with the stark, bright, minimalist aesthetic I love in a coffee shop. However, staff were very snooty from the moment we came in. Not sure if the attitude is supposed to be part of the attempt to be hip. This could be an awesome speciality coffee shop — if they improved the service.

Absolutely fantastic place! I love uptown Minneapolis and this place keeps the true heart and feel of it at bay. Right on the corner with plenty of windows to enjoy the movement of uptown. I enjoy a very nice, crisp and strong cold press. If I was rating the drink for itself I’d rate it 4⁄5 stars, simply because I think it could be a little stronger. Seemed slightly on weaker watery side, even with less than normal ice. But that’s just personal preference, it’s still a great cup of cold press for sure! Definitely satisfied As far as ascetic; it’s prefect. I don’t think it gets more uptown modern than this! If you’re in the area or wanting a sweet coffee experience, hit this place now! No disappointments!

Nice atmosphere(although a little chilly with the door open). At first the wifi was patchy, but whatever was going wrong stopped and I had no problems for the rest of the time. Earl grey tea was not out of this world, but okay. Enjoyed the interaction with the barista– she was knowledgeable and polite. Overall, a good experience. Would return to give their coffee a try!

Went in yesterday to pick up drinks. Ordered ice tea and was extremely disappointed to realize the drinks given to me were cold pressed coffee, which I had ordered for my friends. The barista messed up the simple order of tea! The barista was non engaging and didn’t even offer a drink carrier for 3 drinks. Had to wait around and ask for the same. Extremely disappointed with my experience.

The only coffee shop I’ve found and know of in the TC(to date) that serves Intelligentsia — it’s like Chicago comes to visit me whenever I order coffee here. The clean, minimalist, white interior reminds me of Anelace Coffee on Central. Plenty of space and outlets. They’ve also got a strange fondness for Gary Coleman for some reason… it was their wifi password at one point and there’s an illustration of him on the wall with Nick Nack.

Hands down best coffee shop: the smoothest coffee, best ingredients, sassiest space and Minneapolis sleek baristas. Try the white coconut Johnson or bourbon vanilla latte!

Super slow internet. I just bought coffee and didn’t even finished it, walked across the street and wrote this review.

Oh, Urban Bean. How I wish you had opened up this location five minutes from my place before I decided to move out of the city. I would have lovingly sipped on all of your cold brew concoctions(including liters of the Urban Bean Cold Press and iced Furley) throughout the summer, soaking up the sun while passing the time in your minimalist, yet inviting and warm interior. I would have curled up in one of your corners and devoured my reading list once the leaves started falling and that all too well known bitter, Minnesota chill started to pierce the air. I would have made sure I irritated the rest of the populace by coming in early every Friday to eat all of your decadent donuts before anybody else could have any. Alas, my loss is everybody else’s gain. There is no better coffee shop in Uptown, and Lyn-Lake gained a valuable asset when you opened your doors in the old Jackson’s space. I’ll miss you, but you’ll always be in my(most likely coffee-pumping at this point) heart.

If I could transport this coffee shop to my current place of residence(Kansas City), I would in a heartbeat. I was visiting Minneapolis over the 4th of July and drove by Urban Bean several times, finally deciding it was too cute not to check it out. Décor of a place has no real impact on quality of the food or beverages, but it does make a difference in your total experience. This place is somewhere I would want to hang out all day and order coffee after coffee. It’s modern, spacious, clean, minimal, and has a bit of a funky fresh vibe to it(that rabbit!). Despite my description of modern/minimal, it is by no means cold. The windows provide great light, and the wood counters warm up the entire place. Onto the coffee! I had a tough time deciding what to get. It was fairly toasty outside, so I was leaning toward a cold brew, but was debating between the special of the day and the classic Urban Bean Cold Brew. I went with the classic after talking to the super friendly barista about what I was craving and it was everything I hoped for. Not too sweet even with the vanilla and not at all bitter. This should be your new go-to summer beverage if you live anywhere near this coffee shop. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Minne.

A clean and friendly addition to the uptown independent coffee scene. Quality is great and staff is nice. Only thing they need to fix is how you can tip with square without $ 1 being a minimum.

Barista, Rachel, is adorable! The Bourbon Vanilla is delicious, not too sweet! The Freddy Mercury is a spicy adventure! DONOT go next door! Truly!

Barista was friendly so that was a nice change! I’d recommend the UB cold brew– iced coffee with house made vanilla and a splash of cream. They really care about their coffee here– they serve intelligentsia, coffee I always stop by and get when I’m in Chicago. They also serve four barrel, which taste great, not sure if it’s their beans or just local. Place is clean, nice cool jams playing in the Bg, and great to people watch with windows throughout. The place is really spacious, so great to do work, study, or have a get together.

Urban Bean used to be Jackson’s Coffee & Gelato, a place I never really liked to frequent much. Jackson’s was sterile, depressing and always felt empty. The new(and improved) Urban Bean version is sleek, modern and doing things right. I gave up fancy frou frou coffee drinks years ago — they’re too rich, too many calories and they add up fast, especially when I just like my coffee plain and simple — but when I stumbled here after not wanting another Dunn Bros cold press, I was completely enamored with their entire menu. This isn’t a /coffee shop/coffee shop, it’s one of those destination coffee shops. They use delicious ingredients, fantastic preparations and know their shit. I talked with the barista about how they do things for a few minutes and easily got the impression that they are completely passionate about what they do. Resolutions out the window, I ordered from the«fancy» side of the menu and got a simple yet delicious drink that had brown sugar, bourbon and vanilla. Not one to love sweet things, I assure you that this is not of the Starbucks frappuccino variety. It’s crafted like a high-end cocktail and takes longer to prepare which is exactly how you want it to be. This Urban Bean isn’t an everyday sort of coffee shop for me, but it’s a super nice treat that I’m willing to grant myself when those blurry mornings need a little extra somethin’ somethin’ with my caffeine fix.
