I was a little concerned with the reviews of this place, maybe they have made some adjustments, maybe we hit them on a good night, I don’t know. But we had a fantastic time. I had a Groupon and we sat down at the sushi bar and immediately met JR, the sushi chef. We explained that we had a Groupon and he and the general manager were confused, turns out the Groupon had been released early. The general manager said no worries. What made it so cool was he kept returning to us and chatting with us. We learned about different types of sushi, US versus Asian style. JR was full of knowledge that he shared with us as well. Then they included a free dessert! It was great to learn about sushi and we had a wonderful conversation with JR. The food was very fresh and clean tasting, nothing seemed to be dry, which I have found at some other locations, but not here. We will definitely be going back here, Groupon or not.

When it first opened, Wasabi was my favorite sushi in Minneapolis. Energetic atmosphere, great service, fantastic and fresh-tasting fish. Tonight I stopped in after a 3-year hiatus and was disappointed to find that it has devolved into the ChiChi’s of sushi. For my $ 40 I got a miso soup, 10 pieces of sashimi on a huge bed of ice and carrot shreds, and a couple glasses of wine. They must be on their way out bc this is not the glory days of this great restaurant.

We love this place. First of all they have a good happy hour in the bar area. We love the hibachi. It is a great show and reasonably priced. Like most places, you get some onion soup and a salad. Plenty of butter and garlic makes the fried rice amazing and the hibachi chefs put on a great show.

My group of girlfriends dined here on the ultimate girls getaway weekend(think Shania Twain…). We found the inside to be a little stiff for the conversations about to be had, given this wasn’t our first happy hour of the night. Luckily, Wasabi’s outdoor patio was open and offered great seating on a fairly private drive. We had a variety of beer and mixed drinks; all were to our liking. There was an apparent happy hour going on during our visit — both drinks and sushi. I ordered off the sushi happy hour menu and was delighted. The fish was raw, fresh, and sufficiently present in rolls. Well priced for Minneapolis. My friends tend to find it necessary to order«special rolls» or new world sushi(i.e. no raw fish). They were apparently disappointed with these special rolls given their price(approx. 13 – 22 each) and excessive presence both sauce and rice. So perhaps stick to the classics(duh). Staff was okay; they didn’t seem to enjoy their job or serving our table but we made it work.

Went to Wasabi Fusion on Dec 13th for a light pre-Guthrie snack. Spent $ 32.20. I put a $ 7 tip bringing the bill to $ 39.20. It appears the waitress added a «7» behind my $ 7 tip, giving herself a $ 77 tip. This restaurant stole $ 70 from me

Delicious sushi, beautiful presentation, and a friendly staff made this a wonderful experience for us. We ordered the sushi boat to share, and it was fabulous! So far as my son is concerned, the only thing better than eating the sushi is watching it being made — even better, when the chefs are chatty :). I am always appreciative when the restaurant staff takes the time to engage because it makes my son so happy. So, thank you for a very special afternoon meal, and for being so kind to my son. We will definitely be back! Bonus feature: ample parking lot parking, free before 4pm!

My husband and I go to a lot of sushi restaurants. I expected a bit more out of a Sushi place located downtown on Washington, especially names Wasabi Fusion. Fusion means that you are taking two different styles and fusing them together. This restaurant was a very run-of-the-mill sushi restaurant. I couldn’t figure out what they were fused with. That being said, we enjoyed our dinner, got a great deal, and had a wonderful waiter. I just expected more.

Good: –Tempura ice cream is to die for –Best edamame I’ve had in any of the Twin Cities Japanese restaurants –Attentive and helpful sushi chefs, talented as well –Very good, delicious and well cut sushi –Wonderful atmosphere, rarely busy Bad/Ugly: –One of the soybeans in the edamame order last time had a worm in it(gross!) –Servers tend to be very confused and disoriented if sitting at a table, especially when it comes to coupons(REQUESTTOSITATSUSHIBAR! Things are a whole lot easier if you sit there!!) Overall guidlines(TL, DR): Don’t bring Groupons, always sit at sushi bar, tempura fried ice cream and edamame is very highly recommended Your experience at Wasabi Fusion is likely to be a great one if you follow those guidelines.

I went to wasabi for my birthday this year and had a wonderful experience. I had the sushi entrée which is called omakaze for 4. I guess that means up to the chef and he will make anything sushi sashimi some rolls. And it was 100 for 4 people. Everything was so delicious and fresh all the sashimi and sushi! I enjoy all of it!!! It was so worth the money! And the services was great too he kept my drinks filled at all times! I recommend everyone to give this place a try!

Food is great and their lunch specials are a really good deal. They have a very good happy hour that I believe starts at 9pm on weeknights. I think I may have tried about a third of their rolls by now and you cant really go wrong with any of them. When I order rolls I always also order miso soup and shrimp tempura, because… well why not. All of the food I have ever tried here is delicious. If you are going to go outside of the lunch and happy hour time know that the regularly priced items are a little over priced so proceed with caution. The service is quick but impersonal which I’m totally o. k with since I’m going there for the food. Keep this in mind when you visit. Parking: They have a lot but you have to pay for it. It is usually pretty easy to find a meter and this is cheaper than the lot.

Sushi that is a little bit on the amazing side of things. Both times that I have come to town I’ve eaten at Wasabi and it has yet to disappoint. Despite the many large orders to be made before mine, I enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar and watching the beautiful creations go by. I felt it was definitely worth the wait. This time around I had the JC roll, a delectable combination tempura shrimp, King crab, spicy tuna, and avocado. One roll was definitely plenty for little ol’ me by my lonesome! My server was the sweetest Japanese woman, the sushi chef was very kind and thanked me for my patience, and I was attended to by the manager as well as other wait staff. This might be a «Minneapolis must»!

overall ok sushi at the price you’d expect. been here 3 times, all with groups. service is a little slow, but not a deal breaker. sushi is good, other dishes just ok. Best value for lunch and dinner are the combo plates, huge portions

You’d think a restaurant that’s named Wasabi would give you more than a child sized portion of wasabi with your sushi, right? Nope. And for someone like me, that’s unacceptable. If you’re gonna serve me sushi, murder that bitch with a huge mound of wasabi on my plate — because I likes it spicy. And use real wasabi, not that Americanized pussy shit. I want my mouth to burn with deliciousness and regret. Do you think this is a fucking game? Because it isn’t. Because I live in the ghetto Wasabi is my go to sushi/teppanyaki(hibachi for all the crackers reading this) for BiteSquad delivery and while they have never blown me away with their food — they satisfy my urge for fried food(tempura), non authentic sushi, and their teppanyaki dinners. I enjoy their spider roll, their spicy crab, and spicy scallop. Their spicy tuna and spicy salmon always taste«off». Their vegetable tempura is amazeballs. The onion soup that comes with the dinner combination is really good, the salad is fucking gross and the basic bitch of the salad world. As far as the dinner combos go we usually order the steak and scallops or the vegetarian option with extra noodles. Their noodles are greasy and awesome and I LOVE the fried rice. The scallops are tiny and the steak is usually a cheap grade — but who cares as long as it’s cooked right. The best part of the vegetarian dinner is the silken fried tofu… holy balls it’s good and it doesn’t have that weird tofu consistency that you usually get from most places. You know what I’m talking about… when it feels like you’re eating tasteless jello. Hate that shit. I can’t give it more than 3 stars because it’s fairly overpriced and that child sized portion of wasabi pisses me off.

A friend picked this place for lunch and a great refreshing pick it was. Nice change from the norm. Great lunch specials. I ordered the hibachi shrimp that came with a salad, rice and fresh grilled vegetables. Perfect size for lunch and defintely hit the spot. The Rice was amazingly good. I wish it would have come with one more scoop. My friends each ordered the sushi roll lunch specials. Service is so– so. Not good, but not bad. Will defintely return for another lunch.

Due to various events this particular evening, I was at a bar with friends, it was 9 pm and I hadn’t eaten dinner yet. My friends are having a good time and not ready to leave, but I need to eat. We’ve been talking about Thai food the last 15 minutes, so my tongue was ready for some Thai food. A friend and I walk to the Thai place across the street. But as we get to the door, people are coming out and a woman locks the door behind them, DAMN! We walk another long block further and see this spaghetti place, walk in the door and uh oh, it’s a ghost town, they’re closed too. We’re batting a thousand here. We continue another block or two and see this place above another business and with an «OPEN» sign flashing in the window, SUCCESS! We walk in the door and through the sushi bar area. As we’re taken to a booth in the dining room it’s hard to ignore the temperature is suddenly 10 – 12 degrees warmer than in the sushi bar, wow! It’s worth noting the back part of the dining room is dedicated to Teppanyaki, where you’re seated around the grill and the chef cooks in front of you. SERVICE: Our young server Kenichi was very polite and friendly, but lacked the«polish» a well-seasoned server would have. Have to give him props though as he was trying. FOOD: I was hungry, but being it was after 9 pm I didn’t want anything heavy. As my friend wasn’t well versed with Japanese food, he left it up to me to order. We started with Miso soup. It was nice, but lacked the depth of flavor of most Miso soup I’ve had. On the up side, it also wasn’t as salty as others either. Next: Edamame. Nicely cooked and salted, served warm, how can you go wrong? YUM! This was something different for my dining companion as he’d never had them before. I love introducing new food experiences to people! Then: an order of Gyoza. Nicely cooked, great flavor, very tasty! Finally: Shrimp and veggie tempura. Lovely light tempura batter, nicely cooked shrimp & veggies, super delish! OVERALL: Found this place after walking about 4 – 5 long blocks because everything else was closed. Considering the late hour, the service was good and the food was light and delicious.

I recently attended a group outing at Wasabi and did hibachi for the first time at this restaurant. Here’s my quick assessment: — Out waiter was very nice and accommodating even though not very knowledgeable about the menu and drink items. — The Sake-it-to-Me martini(prairie organic vodka, sake, and muddled cucs) was great in theory but lacked flavor a little. — The hibachi steak, chicken, and shrimp were all flavorful but a little dry and overcooked. The shrimp was the star of the three. — The experience and entertainment of watching our server was another highlight!
