This is what a hardware store should be. Jim learned from his mom and dad how to run a neighborhood friendly store and treat the customers well. I used to go to their store on Bloomington Ave. and was so glad when Jim opened his store at the corner of 22nd Ave. and Franklin. He hires knowledgeable and helpful people to staff the store, fills it floor to ceiling with most everything the neighborhood might need in a crunch and at a reasonable/competitive price, and he’ll order anything he doesn’t have or can’t get from his brother’s store on Bloomington Ave. The addition of the expanded paint department and outdoor plant and gardening supplies is greatly appreciated. Thanks to Jim, Sue and the entire staff.

Every hardware store should aspire to be as good as Welna. I’ve been going here since I moved to Minneapolis in 2008, and I’ve never had a negative experience. I remember once going in to find screws for my laptop. I had some question(must have been either about the screws or issues of static discharge while working on the computer), and the worker I asked didn’t know the answer off the top of his head. «No worries,» I thought. «It was a niche question, and I couldn’t expect him to know everything.» But instead of letting me go with«I don’t know, but good luck,» as I would have expected, the worker called up his friend who was studying computer science, and got a the answer for me, plus some extra stuff to be aware of while working on my laptop. I was amazed. This was back in 2008, and I remember it now 8 years later. This is only one of many positive experiences I’ve had here over the years. I’ve moved a bit farther away from them, but I still make sure to go to Welna’s over any other hardware store. Matter of fact, I’m on my way there now, just as soon as they open.

I feel so lucky that Welna is my neighborhood hardware store. They fit everything that I need for my day-to-day repairs, seasonal work, and even bigger projects into their corner shop, and are knowledgeable when I’ve needed to talk through a project. It’s like having a great neighbor with the best-stocked garage.

I can safely say that this is the best hardware store that I have ever been to. Unfortunately, I can’t recall their names, but I worked with three different ladies in my interaction with Welna Hardware. They were all extremely helpful, personable, and engaging. It’s clear that they don’t operate by typical big business standards(making as much money on each transaction as possible), but rather, that their number one concern is getting the customer a solution. I have even worked at an Ace affiliate in the past, and they didn’t get close to measuring up to the quality of interaction that I had at Welna. If I can help it, I won’t be shopping any other hardware store in the Minneapolis metro.

Such a wonderful store! They are in the middle of switching over to a greater focus on paint and I’m looking forward to having them be my go to place for all my paint related needs. The people are always helpful and will go the extra mile to make sure that you have a really positive experience. Hardware stores can be intimidating but both the Welna hardware stores in Minneapolis will make you feel right at home!

I like this store. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is its size. They do try to pack in as much as they can with the space they have. But it is small none the less. It’s near perfect for all your home repair needs. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They don’t even complain when i put my .90 cent purchase on my credit card and I appreciate that. There is also parking out back.

Best hardware store ever! They’ve spent hours with me helping me find stuff for projects. They’re really nice and knowledgeable, will order stuff for you, and are funny and fun. They also have money from all over the world on their counter! Seriously love this place.

This place is awesome. It is a genuine mom & pop one of a kind store. The people there were so helpful and very kind. I will certainly be back. P. S.- VERY affordable spot too!

The most helpful and friendly staff ever. If you don’t find something there or need more help, they’ll refer you to their Bloomington Ave. store(which is bigger) or order what you need to their supplier. Comparing to their competitors, their prices are usually lower. They also participate in most of Seward neighborhood social activities and before every new year, they ask their international customers to write«happy new year» in their languages on a whiteboard. After a while they display that colorful board made up of good wishes.

Not being a do-it-yourself, home repair kind of guy, I never expected to fall in love with a hardware store, but that’s what’s happening with Welna II in Seward. It helps that the store’s just a short walk from my house. But what turned me into such a fan is the exceptional customer service. As soon as I step in the door I know I’ll get a friendly hello and offer of help from whoever’s working the counter. Owner Jim Welna and his staff have proven time and time again they’re more than happy to go the extra mile to come up with solutions to problems. Plus, when it comes to product recommendations, I can trust they’ll steer me in the right direction. Instead of the most expensive item, they’ll show me what’s locally produced, eco-friendly, AND most cost effective. If they don’t have what I need they’ll do what they can to make sure I get it. And these people know their stuff! One more thing: If your timing’s right, as mine was on my second trip, Mr. Welna might offer you one of the hot dogs he’s got cooking on the grill out back. That’s the kind of added bonus that makes this family-owned neighborhood hardware such a standout!

I am not the handy, do-it-yerself type. However, when my toilet handle literally snapped and my neglectful landlord didn’t prioritize my inconvenience, I became a little sick of having to open the lid to pull up the bulb after every deed. So, I took a trip to Ace Hardware. This store is tiny, even compared to the Ace Hardware’s that I’m used to, but it really does have it all. You would think that I wouldn’t have the«kid in a candy store» mentality for this, but my sad apartment really did need some sprucing. The staff was extremely helpful in helping me find my less than $ 3 toilet part replacement, a new kitchen sink stopper, and longer fan pulls for my 10 foot ceilings. I couldn’t tell ya about bigger job resources, but they fixed my minuscule problems. Gotta love it.
