Minturn Anglers

I had some friends come in from out of town and they wanted to experience fly-​fishing in Colorado. I reached out to Minturn Anglers and booked a day on the South Platte. They exceeded everyones expectations. The best way i know how to shorten the learning curve when one is trying to learn how to fly-​fish is to hire a knowledgeable guide. Would recommend.

These guys were great. The took a first time fisherman (me) to the coolest spot on the Blue River in Silverthorne where I caught a huge fish on my second cast. I hooked 5 or 6 in a row before my buddy made me switch places with him. Nice guys, very helpful.

Our guide Billy went the extra mile to give us a good trip. At his suggestion we fished private waters and my son and daughter both caught some trophy trout. I’ve used minturn a couple of times since and it’s always a good trip.

I’ve been out three times with these folks, they know where the fish are. I visit the Parker location, the staff are knowledgeable and helpful.

Never knew fishing in November could be so good! Thanks again for a great day, attending to dads, kids, experienced and those without, and able to keep the group together.

Two friends and I went up and camped in Minturn and had a great weekend 2-​day, intro trip to fly-​fishing. The guys are knowledgeable, helpful and courteous. We even saw a young bear doing some fishing of his own! We had a great trip! Thanks guys!

I have purchased quite a bit of gear here and booked a trip to fish the reef in WY. These guys are solid and I highly recommend them!
Ask for a beer if your feeling local, you just might get one!

Based on other reviews it doesn’t appear that their guide services are as bad as their customer service. So… maybe choose to have them guide you, but don’t fall for their fake online store.
I ordered an extra spool from their online store. I immediately received a confirmation email on my order, but after two weeks and having received nothing, I contacted them. I called and left a message and a day later got an email, explaining that they were in Alaska and missed the order. Apparently their automated email confirmations mean nothing. It’s a façade that your order «has been processed.»
Their solution was to send the spool two-​day delivery. I said ok. Three days later I still had nothing. Apparently, their online store is not their inventory at all. In other words, you order a product that they might be able to get for you, but you are not ordering directly from their inventory. In my case, Lamson was out of the product I ordered and Minturn never had the spool available at all. It took a pseudo online inventory, a fake order confirmation, and three weeks time to unveil this scheme. They eventually refunded my money. I received an email that simply said «refunded youre money» — nothing else, not a name, apology, or anything.
Too many good, honest fly shops and guide services in the area to waste your time with this dishonest bunch.

I had the opportunity for my first fly fishing experience and, thankfully, did this with Minturn. Our guide was Scott Thompson, who was absolutely top-​notch and I cannot recommend him more strongly. I went with my dad last Father’s Day weekend. While my dad has been flyfishing for some time, it was my first experience. Scott made it absolutely painless and enjoyable. I had my first fish in within 20 minutes and reeled in 4 more by the end of the day. No exaggeration, I believe my dad caught about 20. Scott took care of every detail and made it awesome. I’m going to keep flyfishing, though it will be difficult to do it without the ease of both Scott’s guidance and his overall hospitality. Will definitely be back.

Went on a ¾ day trip with Tom Menas and couldn’t have been happier.
My girlfriend and I were both complete newbies and Tom was a great teacher and very patient. He took us to several great spots. And we even caught three fish! :) Tom is very knowledgeable and it was a real pleasure to be taught by someone who is so passionate about his profession.
The equipment was good. My waders were leaky but Tom had a spare pair in his truck that I could change into on the spot.
All in all just a fabulous experience!

We started out the week thinking about fishing as one of our activities for our vacation. We are an avid fishing family, and I have been a fly fishermen for over 30 years. Our local guides in Maryland had no clue who to contact in the Vail area, so we took suggestions from our concierge and Unilocal.These guys are every bit as good as reported. I fish all over the world, with some of the worlds best guides, and this is one of the classiest outfits I’ve ever seen.
We fished with Robert Gibbes and Andy (who said this was his first summer in Colorado as a guide, but you would never know it). They were both very patient, professional, and knowledgable. In very difficult conditions, they put us on fish. We caught our first Colorado cutthroat and had a very good time. They were entertaining, thoughtful, and fun. I would recommend these guys without reservation. We will definitely be back, maybe later this week.
They even told us where to fish the rest of the week near our resort! There must be so much water out here that they don’t feel threatened telling anglers about their favorite river sections.
I forgot to mention the very courteous staff at the shop and the nice inventory. I’m going to order one of those Titan rod vaults for my SUV as soon as I get home. Thanks Minturn Anglers.

Went out with Rob on a ¾ day trip and he did a great job teaching a first time fly fisherman the ropes. Very knowledgeable and prepared for the weather and fishing conditions that day. Didn’t catch big, but had a quantity of hits on my line and bagged a handful. Overall a great experience.

Nick with Minturn is a great guide. We Went fishing with Nick two days straight and had a great time. Nick picked us up at our hotel on time and ready to go and worked very hard to show us a fun time fishing. Highly recommend Nick and Minturn.

Took a fly fishing class and look what I caught thanks to Tim, Nick, Brian and Maverick over at Minturn Anglers my first time out. The guys at the shop are awesome. I would recommend them to anyone interested in learning how to fly fish!

We sent our 9 year old son out with Mandy and he had such a great time he went back on Saturday!
Minturn Anglers were great! They took care of everything from gear, boots, to drinks and snacks. All the staff was friendly and Mandy was great with our son staying close in the rivers to ensure safety. I would recommend their kids day camp to anyone with a kid who loves the outdoors.
On Saturday my husband joined our son for his first fly experience. He had a great time and said Mandy knew all the good spots that he and our son could fish and they both caught a fish!
Cannot wait to get back to Vail so we can go out with them again! Top class company!

Tough to beat Minturn Anglers! For about $ 1k, three of us fished all day with all rods, flies, waders, etc included. Tom Menas (
) was our guide and his outstanding enthusiasm and direction led us to a cornucopia of beautiful trout. Only thing that could have been better is if we could have caught and not released just one, but alas, we couldn’t. Thanks Tom from Mike, Scooter & Elvis !
