I have lived about 3 blocks from this place for 15 years and today was my first visit. Well I will be going back tomorrow, delicious food, amazing people and one of the best Mai Tai’s. My hubby had the prime rib and it was moist, juicy and amazingly tender. I had fish & chip, the fish was tender and crunchy. The bartender and waitresses were so friendly they gave me news about every special and upcoming event. Tomorrow is $ 5.00 margaritas during a Dodger game and we will be there.

This establishment ranks among the best dining options in the northside-areas of the San Fernando Valley. Here’s a half-dozen reasons why:(1) excellent management;(2) professional service;(3) a consistently high level of food and beverage quality;(4) a welcoming and friendly ambiance amidst some interesting décor(i.e. the place has character);(5) sufficient parking options; and(6) well done online and onsite networking efforts that are tastefully geared towards community events, promotions, and dining specials.

I went here today for the first time and regret not knowing about it sooner!!! It looks so cool and the food was great. I ordered the Robin Hood eggs? Something like that– it was like an eggs Benedict but with Swiss cheese and no hollandaise sauce. Served with hash browns. My date got a steak and loved it and said the mashed potatoes had the best gravy he’s ever tasted. my two friends loved their food too. oh and I also got a Mai tai P; can’t wait to become a regular! I don’t want this place to change at all– EXCEPT I wish it was open later… I wish the bar would stay open until 2 or 12 or atleast 10!

Awesome retro place. Came here with my boss for lunch. They have a nice variety on the menu to pick from and the décor is too fabulous. Once your eyes adjust to the low lighting, you feel like you have stepped back in time as we oozed into the soft, large banquettes. Food was great and the lunch portions were reasonably priced. Our waiter was very good, checking on us several times and refilling iced tea as needed. Had a great lunch«get-away» to the Safari and will be back again. Loved it.

This place is such a lil hidden gem. It’s low key, the lighting is dark. There is a bar that looks like it probably gets a good amount of locals in it and is usually full. Then there is this cool, dim, 60’s décor and ambiance restaurant part. We always come here with my in laws and they have pretty great food at even better prices. The service is good. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. We came here again the other morning and they have a brunch menu on Sunday’s that they serve until 2pm(maybe 3pm?). My hubs ALWAYS gets the Steak and Eggs for $ 10. Probably the best deal in town. My mother in law usually gets the steak and eggs and a Bloody Mary. :) I like to try different things on their menu so I chose the Pork Chop and Eggs w/Home potatoes and Rye bread. Definitely GET the home potatoes!!! It was incredibly tasty, I loved the sauce they put on top of it and once again a great price at only $ 11.50. My mini me ordered off the kids menu and had pancakes and eggs. This isn’t our first time here, we have come here for birthdays dinners with the in laws on many occasions and I have had the salmon, the prime rib, the steak, etc. All of it has always been delicious. So if you are craving steak(sorry my Vegan friends) and you are in this side of the Valley, definitely check this place out. I would prefer this place over Outback anyday… and hey… they are both on Devonshire. So if you were driving over there… keep driving and come here instead! :)

Love the Safari Room! I go here quite often, and it’s always fantastic. Great food, and the waitresses are on top of it. Also love the kitchy vibe, you see every end of the spectrum here in the clientele, from young hipsters to the elderly and everything in between.

This is one of those great old steakhouses that are becoming rarer. It’s been here a long time and after eating here I can see why. The food is delicious and plentiful. My husband had the tilapia lunch and he practically licked the plate clean. I had the London broil and there was so much food I couldn’t eat it all and took the rest to go. We will definitely be back. If you like a good steak come on in. It’s not a hurry up and eat place either. Come eat and relax

My wife and i went here recently, having grown up in Mission Hills, weve been to the Safari room on occasion. Upon being seated, the service was less than warm & friendly. You could tell the late middle aged waitress was less than enthused ‚… and i can appreciate that however, when your job is a hostess or waitress,. You treat The paying guests with courtesy and a smile !! We had to ask for everything, creamer, dressing, steak sauce etc. We ordered Sirloin Steaks that were BURNTBEYOND Recognition. It was the most expensive Beef Jerky ive ever had. Don’t know what happened to this place but will never Go back.

Step back in time to the early 1970’s… It’s a lion safari theme décor steakhouse. Feel free to pretend you’re Ron Burgundy or Larry Dallas and slide into a nice deep booth or onto a barstool. The steak was above average, very flavorful. The portions were perfect, not too big, and not too small. Very old school.

I really like this restaurant: It is a step back in time when neighbors gathered at their local pub for drinks and/or dinner. I appreciate that they keep background music and sports TVs at moderate levels so everyone can talk and hear one another. I also appreciate that much of the staff has worked here for years, and that they have a strong and loyal customer base. But what is best is their food. I’ve had their prime rib and steaks, and my wife has also had their hamburgers and they are as good as it gets. The bartender knows how to mix martinis(a lost art in some places), and their desserts are good. If I were to mark them down on something, it would be because of their vegetables, which obviously were frozen or canned and therefore a bit soggy. I guess that was ok for 1980, but in 2015 we have higher standards for vegetables. But all the same, the overall dinners are wonderful and the staff is friendly and professional. We keep coming back, and we keep looking forward to our next visit.

I must have been drunk last time I went. My wife said it was terrible but I liked it. I finally persuaded her to go back and she was right. The food was just horrible. We spent over $ 80.00 with tip. I hate being wrong.

Well, it’s shocking! We’ve been here several times, THIS time it was Fantastic. Had my Birthday luncheon here with other fellow Scorpio’s and we all loved it. Everything was great! Other times throughout the years haven’t been as good as today.(Nov. 3rd, 2015)…

i long enjoyed the Safari room. In part because there were no badly behaved children, no damned cell phones! Service was always exemplary. All the bartenders actually knew how to make a martini. The best Patty Melt ever! I retired to Carpinteria in ’05 and have raved about the place since. i finally had occasion to go into the dreaded valley yesterday. A friend went with me. I invited him to lunch. Shirley was tending bar. I knew we were in good hands. My friend ordered the patty melt. i ordered a shrimp salad. i got a chef’s salad. i sent it back… you already know where this is going… Well, I have been in bed since coming home yesterday! It is now 4:45 the following day and I am just beginning to feel better! Before anything, I should’ve made sure we sat in Bobby’s section. Jaimie is a poor waiter! He was a poor, sullen, unfriendly bus boy! he ain’t changed! I ate less than half of that mixture. Shirley boxed it for me, I wish, I almost said, don’t bother. I wish I had! My bad! i sure as hell should’ve known better than to send anything back! Ever see that comedy a few years ago starring Ryan Reynolds. I think, not sure, it was called«Waiting»? Employees in any retail enterprise often times come to see the customer, the reason they are employed as a nuisance, an inconvenience or worse… I always enjoyed the old time, dark ambiance of the Safari room and looked forward to an opportunity to find my way back., yesterday pretty well satisfied any further longing.

Brought my dad here for lunch. The burger came rare just as he ordered. My French Dip was a little bit tough but very tasty. Fries came extra crispy. Thank you.

The ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars is just for lack of variety in their menu(sort of). This place is awesome! Service was fantastic! Steaks were great and the MaiTai’s STRONG, but tasty. Definitely coming back! Do not judge a book by its cover as the outside is a little sketchy looking, but the inside is great.

I want to give this place five stars but I just cant. The place is so dated, old and dirty, you can’t afford to remodel at least clean the place. Vegetables are canned, any cut of meat you get tastes the same. Thursday went there and thought ok let me try something totally different that I NEVER order, so ordered the seafood sampler, how can you screw up deep fried ANYTHING? They burnt the outside and the middle was spongy cold. Anyway, been here more than a dozen times cuz the girls love it, but hate it.

Safari Room is an old school restaurant and bar. The crowd here is more middle aged and have been coming here for decades. The employees are the same. The feel here is more family and friends coming together. Everybody knows each other. I love it. It just shows how much the owners value their employees and customers. And that’s how I feel when I come here. Valued. Drinks are stiff. Bartenders are great. I haven’t tried that many food items. Steaks are good. The«Bar Steak», which is just steak and fries that you order at the bar, is a deal. I’ve had their Wednesday bar food American style beef tacos which where pretty good. The prime rib was okay, I’ve had better. They have special deals every week. Sign up for their email newsletter. Every once in awhile they have events Hawaiian luau, western, etc. My only complaint is that because it’s a small business, if they aren’t busy in the evening, they close up early. It’s understandable, but it sucks and makes me not even want to try to go there once it hits 8 or 9. I should also say that the bar is opens at 10 and is open all day, but the kitchen/dining area is only open 11 – 2, then 5-closing. They don’t even bother posing up a closing time because they don’t know. lol. I like that honesty.

Just like every other Unilocaler, I’ve passed by this place many, many times, and have not considered coming in. It really looks like an outdated dive. But during my quest for a good steak, Unilocal lead me to this place. Since I’m a local, I felt I should give it a try. Parking always seems to be packed, even if there aren’t that many customers inside. Inside, it’s like Dick Clark 1960’s era goes on a safari. You have two choices in regards to ambience… nostalgic or outdated. You choose. The crowd is elderly. But if you’re looking for a bar with good drinks, doesn’t skimp on the alcohol, and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg, I recommend coming here! Seriously! I came on a Saturday afternoon for their brunch menu. The steak and eggs special was only $ 10.99. No wait, unlike Denny’s and IHOP, and the food is the real deal. Steak was cooked a perfect medium temp, you have your choice of hash browns or country potatoes, side of bread, and eggs(your way). My coffee cup was never empty, thanks to our attentive waitress. If you’re looking for a good steak, and you don’t want to deal with the long lines at other restaurants, I suggest coming here.
