Coast Radiology Imaging and Intervention

Coast Radiology is a really creepy, duplicitous service/​company.
I had Medi-​cal and was promised they would cover me on my CT scan.
I paid $ 125 to the hospital and thought that was the end of it. Then Coast contacted me a month later asking for $ 145. I paid reluctantly, hoping they would go away. Then 3 weeks later they sent a bill for $ 295. I called Medi-​cal and even Mission Hospital and they told me Coast should not be bugging me – they are a contractor for Mission Hospital and therefore when
Mission Hospital accepts insurance plans, Coast has to as well. They seem clueless about their legal and ethical responsibilities and you can’t call them – you just get the electronic runaround. They contract billing out to Zotek who are even creepier than they are, if that’s possible. I am going to report them to local journalists and the BBB in the next few weeks. Get a figure IN WRITING from Mission and don’t believe any verbal promises. Oh yeah, I just called Coast and they now want $ 450. It goes up every few days.
Run, don’t walk, from Coast Imaging – these guys are just a racket, and operate like crooks.

Much like several of the other reviews here, do not go here unless you want to spend several hours on the phone going back and fourth between their billing department and your insurance carrier.

My wife was sent to Coast Radiology for a mammogram. They proceeded to perform the screening with a computer assisted reading without getting prior authorization from our insurance. After our insurance declined to cover the add-​on (routine mammograms are fully covered under the ACA) Coast proceeded to pass the extra charge onto my wife. I contacted our insurance company and they informed me that the Radiologist should have gotten prior authorization for the computer assisted reading and that they could provide a corrected claim or get a retro pre-​authorization. I passed this information onto Coast and they said my account would be placed on hold while they «investigate.» Then another bill came a month later at which time I called again, and again they said they’d place the account on hold and look into it. Now, 2 months later, we get a bill from collections for the amount they are trying to recoup from us! When I called their billing office this time they just said the «investigation shows we are responsible for the add-​on charge. They said their radiologists never call insurance for preauthorization for anything. Now, after reading the reviews on here, I can see that this is a rogue company doing whatever the hell they want and overcharging patients with unauthorized add-​ons! Will never use them again! Make sure your ordering physician does not send you to Coast Radiology!

My review is the same as a long list of reviewers. They didn’t bother to update their records so they send bills to the wrong mailing address. Sent me to collection for less than $ 20. Given the number of virtually identical complaints, you have to wonder why doctors continue to use this service. I will certainly make my doctor aware of this issue. I recommend that my fellow Unilocalers do the same. Maybe the loss of business will cause them to handle their a/​r more professionally in the future.

Billing with this company is a nightmare!!! They never billed me instead they sent my account to collection! The co pay on my bill was $ 20, collection for $ 20 are you kidding me??! Bill me and I will gladly pay my dues but going straight to collections is not right!

Exactly like all the others. Why in the world would Mission Hospital use these guys! I got a bill for $ 11 for a procedure done in 2014. I called the phone # on the bill and asked if there was a balance and they told me no. It was paid in full. Then a month later I get a collection notice from CMRE for the $ 11.66! This is a total scam outfit. They probably are getting kickbacks from the collection agency. Before you get any tests done, ASK who will be reading the MRI or x-​rays and demand in writing that you do not want Coast Radiology to be involved whatsoever.

I see other reviewers are having the same issue. On Friday of last week, I received my $ 30 bill from Coast Radiology Imag, Inc. No problem; it took them a while to send me a bill, but that’s the way it is with insurance stuff these days. Imagine my surprise when I open the mail on Tuesday — from a collection agency, saying I have not paid my bill !!! And I must pay it immediately — plus the 10 cents interest or it will go on my credit report as uncollectible debt — seriously, you can’t make this stuff up. After an hour on the phone; being sent to 4 different numbers to call, I finally got to talk with a live person. They had my address listed in their system as a bad address and therefore HAD TO turn it over to collections to try to find me. It get’s better, the collection agency sent the bill to the address that Coast had in their system, and I got the collection agency bill with no problem. I almost have things finally fixed (shout out and thank you to Nichole). It’s just sad to have to go through this. And after reading the reviews, it seems that it is an ongoing problem with them :(

Obviously Mika O. was paid by the company because if I could give negative stars, I would. I have impeccable credit, and I ALWAYS pay my bills on time. However, like so many other posters, I received a letter from a collections agency… for $ 30 dollars!!! This company obviously has a horrendous billing agency (Zotec Partners) that never actually bills its customers, but rather sends all of its accounts directly to collections agencies. Unless you want to be dealing with collections letters, I encourage you to STEER CLEAR of this company.

I had no idea that the hospital would not handle the processing of my whole bill, since I had insurance. Apparently some of it was subbed out to these guys, who The billing office here is horrendous. They never billed me and billed my insurance company a year later, so my insurance company denied it. They then sent me to collections without even sending a bill my way. I then had to fight with the collection agency and rebill my insurance myself. Choose another imaging center! Not worth it!

I shopped around for places to get a brain MRI, I looked into lots of hospitals and imaging centers and spoke with my good friend who is a radiologist. Based on his recommendation, I chose Coast. I have to admit, I was really nervous about the whole experience. The MRI tech was so sweet and really made the effort to put my mind at ease that I was in good hands. Overall my experience exceeded my expectations! I’m glad I did my research.

Upon reception for bone scan imaging I presented my Anthem Medicare PPO Advantage card which the receptionist threw into the trash even when I stressed that I was a new patient to Medicare and gave my new card to her. I also called the imaging center to update my file but they said that coast radiology was outsourced billing. I have written letters, made over 20 phone calls, and they constantly harass me and threaten turning me over to cofllections for a 35.00 bill which I never received, This is the most unprofessional billing service ever encountered and I am going to report their actions to my insurance carrier as all other attempts even logging into the account on line have proved fruitless. I will not give a c c number to anyone not knowing who they are and specifically people who call and just leave messages threatening but no names and no phone contact numbers only on line account cc info services… Incompetence is rampant and I total agree with Shawn how dare they not correct and update insurance info when it is presented to them at time of service. I am determined to report their abusive nature to my insurance carrier asap.

I went to them in 2011 with a prior insurance. Went back in 2013 with a new insurance, which I provided. They charge my old insurance for some reason, which is denied. They send me one bill. Then they sent it to collections and threatened me. Are you serious? No phone call? No second letter? If they properly billed my insurance this wouldn’t be an issue. Now I have to waste my time dealing with their error. Incompetence in the back office makes me wonder if they provide a valid service in the front office.

I have exactly the same complaints as the other reviewers. They billed an insurance I have not had since 2010 even though I filled out all the paperwork and gave them my new ins card. (the same one I had last year.) I recieved a bill that included a $ 14.00 «denial» fee. There is no way to reach a human. Leave a message. Either by phone or email. This has made it very hard for me to recommend the services provived by them. I will be going elsewhere for my mammograms from now on. Your only option is to keep calling Mission’s billing dept.
