When you first walk in, you see the 59 diner resemblance. When we went there for the first time, we had no idea if we should seat ourselves or wait for someone to lead us to a table. My husband and I were standing there a little dumbfounded for a minute. Eventually someone came to seat us. Maybe they’re understaffed because there was just one waiter for the whole restaurant that night. Food: My husband and I ordered Sham Savera and Vindoloo Chicken. Sham Savera: It’s a spinach and paneer ball in masala. It was rich and creamy. The paneer balls were delicious — nicely crispy on the outside and like saag paneer on the inside. The masala sauce complemented the paneer balls. It was delicious over rice and with the garlic naan. Vindoloo chicken: Like the sham savera, it was also rich and creamy. The sauce wasn’t too tomatoey. It was great over rice and naan. The dish was rather filling. Customer service: As previously mentioned, we weren’t too impressed when we first came in because it took a while for someone to acknowledge that we had walked in. It also took a while for the food to come out. Ambiance: It didn’t look like an Indian restaurant and it lacks Indian décor. It still carries the resemblance of 59 Diner, but it’s ok. We didn’t go there to be awed by the ambiance, but we were curious about the food. Price: The price is comparable to other Indian Restaurants in the area. Overall, the food was great, but I gave it 3 stars because of customer service.

I wish there were negative stars on the ratings because this places sucked from the moon and back… I like Indian food but good God almighty was I shocked how terrible the food was… The rice was dry and it looked like it was made the day before… The currys were below standard and I felt like the advertisement that they had for the buffet pricing did not match with what was given… If u like Indians foods please don’t go here… Don’t ruin your image about Indian foods…

OK I am new to Unilocal and I am giving it the two stars based on the explanation for each rating. Two stars means I have experienced better but I am going to give my honest review and opinions. I am not Indian but I do love Indian food, cook some from scratch at home, and I am basing it on Gourmet India’s buffet. I am emphasizing the fact that I am basing this on my experience at a anothern popular buffet. I went to gateway on 03÷10÷14, when I pulled up I almost drove away being that I can see through the glass and see there was no one inside at noon and thats not a good sign but I tried it anyway. Upon entering I was greeted by the owner/manager not sure which but Ill explain why I think he was the owner in a second. He told me I can sit where I would like and then before I decided on a table he asked if I wanted garlic or regular naan? I guess he wanted to get the order in asap I dunno. So I walked past two tables before I found one that didnt have someones leftovers on them. I sat for a second in the dining area by myself before I decided to just get up and go for the buffet. There were no other servers in the dining room or at work that day it seems. The buffet wasnt a bad selection, for a budding restaurant there was plenty of options especially being an Indian restaurant. My first plate I sampled a small amount of everything. I started with curry chicken, a meatball I couldnt remember the name of, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, tandoori chicken, and a veg. korma. The first thing I bit into the curry chicken had a decent flavor to it but I was quickly disappointed because part of the chicken was slightly warm and the inner parts of the chicken was cold. And I dont mean room temp cold I mean cold. I looked back at it to make sure it was thoroughly cooked and it was so that let me know that I am now dealing with leftovers that were rewarmed and not rewarmed thoroughly to where the lie was effective. The tandoori chicken wasnt anything to write home about, The chicken tikka masala was pretty good I did like that along with the saag. They both were well seasoned, hot at the steam-table just the saag I had to stir around a little bit because it wasnt very appetizing looking along with some daal that was prepared. It had been out too long and the air kind of crusted over the first layers. The meatball I didnt care for it was about as tough ass those little rubber bouncy balls in the quarter candy machines at the grocery stores and made with way too much cardamom. I tried the veg korma and as I write the review I cant remember anything about it besides crunchy bell peppers. There were a few other items at the buffet I tried on my second plate again with the tikka because it was good to me and a little more saag along with a mixed vegetable and I want to talk about the garlic naan, The mixed veg I refuse to believe if it wasnt from yesterday or the day before. Mostly cabbage and potato sauteed together. The potato is the stool pigeon in the dish everyone knows what old reheated potatoes taste like, they were gummy and hard. The garlic naan, one word AWESOME. Not sure if it was freshly prepared or bought in the frozen section of the market next door but it was not good enough to make me come back. I say I wont come back because as I am finishing the manager thought it was a good time to handle restaurant business on the phone out in the dining room. I was subjected to waiting until he was halfway through his second call before he looked up and I caught his attention to show I was ready to check out. That was a tad bit unprofessional to me, and when I am visiting your restaurant, and I hate to sound snooty when I say this but, you are supposed to wait on me not I am supposed to wait on you. I wanted this to work out so bad, at least the buffet, but maybe putting in fresh orders is the way to go until you get enough business that will change your mind on cooking fresh food for the steam table daily. I really wanted this for missouri city.

I absolutely love indian food and this place delivers. The food is of great quality with a great selection. This area lacks a lot of restaurants and this is a great addition. Not only is food great but service is exceptional. The owner explained to me what thali means and even how to eat some of the items. I couldnt stop eating and was trying to finish all my thali… I think that is the point. In the end, I couldnt conquer the thali bc I was too full. Im excited to try the rest if the menu as the selections are endless!!!

Pretty good Indian food, lunch buffet is $ 9.99 per person. Service was decent, came over to our table a lot to ask if we wanted more water or naan, but then also stood there when we signed the check… The reason for 3 stars is because their water tasted funny to me… it may just be me being sensitive to water in restaurants and theirs is definitely different from our soft water at home. Also I like sweets and their only dessert is rice pudding, compared to other Indian buffets we’ve been to that’s not enough for desserts at all.

Worst Buffet ever… Horrible food. Expensive. Below standard food quality. Lot of oil and curries are sweet. I will never go to this place again. Worst indian restaurant.

I really liked this place. My mom and I were in town for Thanksgiving to visit a relative in a nursing home and had no other family to eat Thanksgiving dinner with, so when we saw this place was open, we stopped in. Of course on the holiday we were pretty much the only ones eating in — the only other customers that came in were picking up their Tandoori Turkey Thanksgiving dinner offered by the restaurant. But the owners were there and took care of us; apparently this place has only been open for a few months and is owned by a local family. The place is very nice and clean, no super fancy decorations, but definitely a bright and pleasant atmosphere. And they had a great variety of dishes available on their menu — a lot more than I’ve seen at other Indian restaurants I’ve eaten at. For example, they had several different flavors of naan. I got the garlic naan, loved it and highly recommend it! They also offer a wide selection of tandoori-style dishes, the usual chicken all the way to salmon and shrimp. We tried the tandoori shrimp along with my usual fave, chicken tikka masala, plus samosas for an appetizer, and all of it was very good. It was a little bit on the spicy side compared to what I normally eat, so be careful if you are sensitive to spicy foods.(Perhaps they can recommend or prepare a less spicy dish for you upon request — I did not ask about this, but another review mentions they are able to customize spice levels.) Anyway, as a person that works for a restaurant that my family owns, I definitely enjoy eating at and supporting other local family-owned restaurants. The Gateway India family has put together a great little place with wonderful food, so I really hope they succeed. If I find myself in the area again, I will certainly pay them a return visit.

Dishes way to spicy and cannot even taste it properly. Not going back again. Disappointing for sure…
