Great spot for hot coffee especially when it is served by Senator Ted Cruz. Blue plate special and roast beef sandwich looked very good. New York Times and Washington Post reporters also hang here.

If you like greasey spoon dinners this place is for you. Well decorated to a 60’s throw back with corn stalks five feet out the window. Fast & friendly service and food but the hash browns could have stayed on the griddle another 30 seconds, a bit mushy for my taste.

The Midwestern friendliness of this place is infectious. The skillet dishes and cinnamon roll are excellent. The photo op outside is to die for. Sometimes a place is more than the sum of its parts. I came here 5 years ago and it was just as great as I remembered. Loved it.

I had the cheese steak and a malt. The cheesesteak tasted like cafeteria food for kids, and the malt had chunks of ice in it. My bill came to just under $ 15 before tip. The server was nice, but the food wasn’t worth half what I paid for it.

Hamburger & fries pretty average. Hot beef sandwich pretty bad. Shake ok. Had bacon cheeseburger which was the special. They left off the bacon. Service ok, not great.

Stopped in after 5 hours of driving to find just what one would expect, a diner serving diner staples. Will this place be on Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives? Nope, but the food was a nice changes from fast food. The meatloaf was good, mash potatoes were fresh, the gravy tasted a bit packaged. The staff was friendly and the service was prompt until they got«slammed» by the dinner«crowd». Slammed and crowd are relative terms. I’ve seen waitresses who could handle this whole place single handedly, these girls… well not so much. Once everyone was served the service smoothed out. The entire time they were friendly. Iowa folks will understand this, this place is one step tp the left os a Maid-rite. Bottom line; okay food, friendly staff, no surprises.

We stopped here on the way through. Fell in love with the wonderful interior design: retro 50ies. The food was good, although no vegetarian choices. The milk shake was a blast and is a must have.

Pennys Diner is cute and its retro. If you remember the 50’s or 60’s I think you will enjoy the atmosphere. It doesn’t look cheap like some of these metal diners, it just looks real. Usually there is period music playing as well. My boyfriend and I love to go there for soda fountain drinks now and then. Some of the food is quite good. Problem is it’s not always very quick service. If you go to Pennys, make sure you have time to be there awhile. It also is not very consistent. Sometimes its very good, but not always. I enjoy the buffalo burgers and potato casseroles. The Cherry, vanilla and chocolate cokes are cool! Go for the experience.

The service was great. How many other places can you find someone at 6:00 a.m. with a smile and great attitude when it is 6 degrees outside. Ordered a basic breakfast and was not disappointed with the result, the short time it took to get it, or the price. Worth the stop when on the interstate.
