We also were traveling cross country on our bikes and rolled into Mitchell. Town of 150 people with two hotels, 3 restaurants and a market. The hotel downtown was booked, so we went up the hill to the Skyhook. The sign is a little old and made us wonder what we’d find, but what we found was a great owner run motel. We had a living room, two bedrooms and a kitchen for under $ 100. The view was gorgeous and the owner helpful and friendly. There isn’t food right next to the motel, but if you go downtown there are a few good places including the Little Pine Café. Don’t miss the motel if you are looking to stay around John Day Fossil National Monument.
