I hate to say this but I have to agree with the negative comments about this stylist. It’s way over priced for what you actually get. I like another reviewer got burned by her as well. Essentially, I only work with her as a back up to my back up, back up hair stylist. She is nice though but I feel like she’s money hungry and that is just not a good feeling at all. In terms of her personality, she is very nice, so I am unsure why people are negatively commenting on her character and persona. She is nice just the service is not the best. I would prefer to give advice: My advice to this stylist is to relocate to a different salon(it is uncomfortable to be in a unisex salon), learn added techniques from other stylists, reduce your prices, and clean up your station. SN: Many people are natural now, the stylist should also learn feminine styles for those that are natural, this will surely increase clientale and also attract more clients. Also, stylist who work with natural hair and have many many techniques typically have a strong children following too. You could essentially do your clients hair and their kids, if proper education is a part of this stylist’s revamp. I think that all of this should help in terms of keeping clients around and happy.

I had tracks done to add length by Chelsea back in September 2011. This was my first time and she did a fabulous job. She was able to blend it with my own hair & it looked very natural. She’s very talented and I recommend her to anyone. She’s pretty busy so I’d call about a week ahead or so to schedule an appointment. She’s very affordable too.

The worse decision I’ve made since I moved to the area. Let me start off by saying I’ve been natural for 7 years. I have a great relationship with my hair and I know what it likes. I have no problem turning my natural curls to silky straight hair. I made an appointment with Chelsea for 11am. She called me at 11:10 to say she was 10 minutes away. I told her I’d need to be done by 12:30 because I had another appointment. She didn’t show up until 11:30(20 minutes after she was already 10 minutes late). I asked her about all the services she offered and she gave me a very short list. I asked if I could get a wash and set and she proceeded to tell me my hair wouldn’t last. I’ve done roller sets myself for years. I told her I know what’s best and it seemed like she just didn’t want to do it. She told me I’d have I sit under the dryer for two hours!!! I sit under the dry at my house for 45 minutes! I reluctantly proceeded with the blow out and ended up with heavy, oily hair. She recommended i have my ends trimmed(even though i just trimmed them october 1st) and charge me $ 15 for it! I told her i had my heat protectant and she commented that she didn’t use drug store products but pulled out proclaim hair oil which is $ 5.99 at cvs!!! Her work station was full of old weave and bottles covered in weave glue. She used a product on my hair that had no label in the bottle. When I asked about the $ 20 off for the check in with Unilocal, she told me it only applied if i brought a friend in with me. To top it off, she burned my ear with the metal from the brush and did not even apologize. I was so unsatisfied with the entire experience that I just paid my $ 70 bill and went on with my day. I guess I should have been ok with her breaking the brush in my hair and giving me $ 5 off of my $ 75 bill. For all that money I at lease expect to you to know what you are doing. After all I this I still tipped her well. Don’t believe the hype on Unilocal. If ou want quality, this is not the place to go. Chelsea is heavy handed and an amateur at best. Next time I’ll stick with reflections salon. At least they know how I work a blow dryer.

I found Chelsea on Unilocal and couldn’t be happier. I have had a relaxer for years and really can’t see giving it up but I recently had medication that ripped chunks out of my hair and left the rest very brittle. I was afraid I’d have to give up the chemicals to get it healthy but just one visit and my hair felt better with no more shedding. Happy to say my hair is back on it’s way to healthy! As for Chelsea — she’s always polite, on time and there is no sitting around waiting. In and out! Easy & free street parking too. Everyone in the shop seems friendly. Highly recommend! Bonus: she has GREAT hours!

I found Chelsea on Unilocal, along with a few other stylists when I needed to get braids for my daughter to swim during the summer. Chelsea took the time to return my initial calls in a timely manner, and explain the pros and cons of all of the different braid options I was considering(micro-braids, kinky twists, etc). She explained which options were better for children with natural hair, and which would cause less breakage. She was flexible with scheduling, and made sure her services were worth the cost(which was slightly higher than others, but worth it). After a few weeks, I wanted my daughter to have a touch-up of the front braids and Chelsea had no problem seeing us on short notice. The salon is.lively. Not always a fan of trashy daytime TV while children are receiving services, but that’s a personal preference and it certainly wasn’t too out of hand. All of the stylists were personable, professional, and welcoming. Overall, she’s a little higher priced but she’s more personable, gives a more well-rounded, «full» service and it doesn’t feel like a «braid factory» like some of the other salons in this area.

This place gets no reviews for me. Very unprofessional service! I scheduled an appt w/a stylist that was highly recommended on Unilocal, but the day of my appt was the earthquake. Well, instead of the stylist contacting me to cancel, reschedule, or let me know she was leaving for the day, I showed up to find her not there. I understand several people were w/out ph service but she had access to texting & didn’t even bother to do that. I drove across town in traffic to make my appt while trying to get a hold to her in fear of being charged a late fee or no show. Once I got a hold to her thru text, that’s when I found out she was not planning on coming back to the salon. After mistaken me for other clients that’s when I realized she didn’t remember her appt w/me. She stated most of her clients canceled for the day so she assumed no one else was coming in either. She also said she didn’t have my ph # in which I gave her when I scheduled the appt. After all the excuses I asked one of the other stylist if he had time to take one more person(yes, the other stylist were still at the salon working) & he told me they dont operate like that & it was unprofessional to take other stylist clients. I told him it was unprofessional to not show up for an appt or not even call to cancel, plus it’s my money to pay whoever to do my hair. At this point I was fed up & realized obviously they didnt need my business. Later that evening after the stylist ph was working again, she call w/several apologies, but at this point I was turned off. I understand the circumstances but u think it could have been handled a lot better. I would love to try the stylist b/c of all the wonderful things I heard about her but I’m just skeptical about the whole thing. Not a good 1st impression for me.

Yes I am still a fan of this particular stylist. If she moved away, I would probably try and pack my bags too. I will follow her to any salon. She is now located in old town at a modern hair salon/barbershop. Sometimes the other stylists come over and look at her work with amazement. I always leave Chelsea’s chair looking my best. I am not a natural hair client, but I know she can do that too if I ever decide to take the plunge. My sister started going to her as well.

On Friday, Sept 3, I call Ms. Chelsea Shelby to see if I could schedule a time for my teenage daughter to get her hair done. She scheduled us for the next day at 10:30 a.m. without any hesitation. All I can say, is Ms. Chelsea is phenomenal. She’s fast, funny, and knows her stuff. And to add to it, her prices are reasonable. This visit was my daughter’s first time ever getting a weave and Ms. Chelsea made our visit very welcoming. Like the previous review stated, the salon is a tad bit older but it(the salon and staff) are very welcoming. We most definitely will be back for further work and will refer as many people to her as possible. Thank you for all of your work, Ms. Chelsea. God has truly anointed your hands to be a blessing to others. I pray that God continues to prosper in and through your life.
