Very good southern home cooked meals. I like their meatloaf and their veggies. Their fried chicken is kind of salty but it’s a good place for a quick bite for lunch.

Tried Mama’s On Dauphin for quick lunch. Service was friendly and efficient. Menu is straightforward southern cooking; a lot of deep-fried/heavy stuff. HUGE portions. Food came out quickly but was lacking in overall taste and texture… Most of their food must be pre-made and has been sitting in a warmer. Not fresh. I had a fried green tomato BLT with 2 sides. Sandwich bread was toasted on one side but the other side was super soggy. It lacked flavor. It saddens me when fried food is served warm or room temperature. It should be served hot and fresh. I love comfort food and southern cooking… and I have had better.

Quick friendly service, clean and bright dining room and nice home cooking vegetable plate. What’s not to like. Will definitely return. Glad to have this option in downtown Mobile.

As I travel for work, I’m always on the search for something new. I avoid the chains as much as possible and head to the small local joints. This one was recommended but I was sadly disappointed. Considering the shape of it, the chicken fried steak was clearly a frozen, pre-made product. Green beans were under-seasoned and the portion of mashed potatoes was pitiful. Though the service was fast, friendly and the sweet tea was good, it didn’t make up for the food. All together, not worth the $ 12.

Refer to the picture I took of the closed sign. Came in to town from Mississippi on my birthday and found it closed during business hours with no note on the door as to why. Highly disappointing, and despite being less than an hours drive from here I won’t be returning. Obvious suggestion: Call ahead to make sure they are actually open and serving food.

Don’t know if I caught Mama’s on a bad day but I had the Monday’s special which was Meatloaf and mash potatoes and the sides were okra and butter beans and for me it was just average at best. The service was just okay. I will not come back again.

The best home cooked southern cooking in Mobile in a super casual setting. Their red beans are delicious. There are always more adults than families but we did bring the kids once and they ate well and the wait staff was super friendly to them.

Great food! Gumbo, crab cake platter, and fried shrimp platter were all wonderful. I got a side order of fruit for my toddler and the grapes were bad. You’d think someone would notice that when they were filling the fruit cup. We were a party of three and it took a long time to get our food, but didn’t appear to take as long for other people. I had gotten a cup of gumbo and was thinking it would come first(attempt at holding the toddler over), but it was forgotten and didn’t come until after our meal was out and i reminded the server. I couldn’t say anything earlier because no one came by our table between when we ordered food and when it arrived. Food was delicious though and the servers were very polite and nice. It was busy busy at lunch. Will be returning!

A staple lunch spot for our office. My favorites are the Fried Green Tomatoes, the Vegetable Plate & lunch specials.

This place came highly recommended, so we decided to grab some lunch here. We were seated promptly and the menu looked great! We ordered several recommended items off the menu. All the dishes were great!!! I loved the side of squash casserole! Great southern sweet tea. The service was helpful and friendly! It is easy to walk to from most hotels downtown. It is not a fancy place. So, if you are big into ambience and décor, just know this is not that place. But, if your are a foodie and appreciate good southern cooking, come on in! We saved the best for last… banana pudding! Oh so good!

Love love love this place. It is located in historic downtown Mobile. Come on down for lunch and grab some parking so you can stroll the area. The food was delicious. It is true Southern Cuisine with the sweet tea to wash it all down. The service is friendly and you feel right at home. After eating here head to the park to enjoy the 100 year old oak trees. Grab some peanuts and popcorn on your way from the Peanut Shop. Old Mobile makes you feel good and is full of Southern Hospitality!

This is a real good restaurant. You can get you a hamburger. You can get you chicken and dumplings. Don’t nobody care. I got me a thing called the country style steak. And a cokecola. It was pretty good, and I was not ready for that because this restaurant is in the city. It is not as good as Morrison’s.

I went here yesterday for lunch with my friend and it was pretty good. I always heard good things about this place so we gave it a try. The rice and gravy is OK. The fries were awesome and my croissant chicken salad was bomb! They closed at 2:30 on Monday and we got in at 2. We felt so bad! Also they ran out of a lot of food. We wanted fried chicken and mac n cheese but they ran out of that. Sucks! But probably bc we came in late. But give it a try if you like local small businesses! Oh and veryyyyyy cheap!

Top 3 high/lowlights 1) good location on Dauphin 2) great food 3) fast service I went to Mama’s today for a quick lunch before heading to the airport. Mama’s was less than a 10 minute walk from the Hampton Inn — downtown, where I was staying. The atmosphere is very casual and it’s clear the owners care more about the food than the ambience. Don’t come here if you are looking for a fancy, top notch restaurant but if you are looking for great tasting soul food this is your place. I had the jambalaya which came with two sides(all side options were very traditional soul food options). I chose the candied yams and the squash as my sides and I also received a complimentary corn muffin(unfortunately couldn’t try it as it’s not gluten free). The service was really quick, I had my food in about 5 mins. Everything was delicious and the portions were very generous. The candied yams weren’t warm enough but everything else was great. I tried a bite of the squash and it tasted like it might have been cooked in a flour/cheese(aka gluten-y) sauce so I didn’t eat anymore. My entire bill was only $ 9.35. Overall, great place if you are looking for some authentic soul food.

This is the old«meat and three» sort of place. It had a good vibe and I love downtown, but was not blown away. HOWEVER, I don’t think this sort of food has caused me to gasp since my Grandmother’s dinner table on Sundays. The veggies were good, but not seasoned correctly — even when cooking for guests — and there were too many heavy entrees as the«meat». It isn’t on my list of places to return, but don’t discount it if you are hungry in LoDa at lunchtime.

Your basic meat and three. Unusual to have one in a downtown city, but it fits into the neighborhood nicely. Nothing fancy, just good home cooking at a reasonable price. Their lunch plate is around $ 10, including drink, if memory serves me correctly. They have daily specials so keep an eye out for your favorite southern dish and it will probably be there.

Just comfort food, nothing elaborate, or complex. The chicken and dumplings were good, lots of dump, Iittle chic! That was about sums up how my chicken and dumplings were. I was good, but I thought I’d have to order a side of chicken to go with it. My butter beans tasted canned, and the fried okra was eeehhh ok. Service was very good and efficient. again I reiterate that the issues weren’t service, ambiance, the food was just about average, there was nothing that«popped»! I don’t really think that Mama’s is deserved of two stars, a weak three star though. If I worked in the area I’d go here occasionally, as the food was acceptable and well guarded by police diners, who apparently frequent there: o) But, to go here because your looking, I say look somewhere else. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but would go out of my way.
