Fantastic place! Stopped for a night on our way to New Orleans. Such a gorgeous house. Wendy is fabulous, always happy to give recommendations for food or anything else you want to do. LOL We picked the place because they have a dog. Beau is sweet as can be, but there is a little drool and some hair if that’s not your thing.(It was totally ours!). And breakfast… OMG was so good. The bacon… we have seriously talked about going back just for the bacon. Would gladly stay here again and spend a few days just to hang out. Can’t say enough great things about this place!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary in November at the Kate Shepard House B & B. Our hosts, including their four-legged companion, were warm and welcoming. As a person that has restored a couple of houses in my time, they have done a remarkable job. It is a beautiful restoration. Kim and I recommend a stay at the house.

From Wendy and her husband, to the sweets she has out consistently for her visitors, the ultra comfortable bed and soft sheets, to the peacefulness that radiates through the house. It is quite an experience. Not to mention the amazing breakfast spread she has for you each morning. It is 5 star cuisine honestly. I never had quite an amazing breakfast as one she provides(and I know, I love breakfast). Seriously, stay here. You will not regret it.

Spectacular! The house is conveniently located near major thoroughfares but off heavily traveled streets. The house itself is phenomenal. The house and family histories are mind-boggling. The rooms are huge, filled with history, and plush. The breakfast(pecan praline waffles) is one of the top 100 meals in Alabama — and justifiably so. The amenities are unparalleled, including freshly baked cookies, freshly made candies, port, sherry, and more. There’s much more to do in the house than time permits. Bill and Wendy treat you better-than-family. They have great recommendations for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Bill and Wendy instantly respond to the smallest request.

So happy I chose this place! It was great for a mini vacay, or just a new perspective on a town I’d visited often in the past. It took a little getting used to since I normally do hotels, but man was it worth it! Its gorgeous inside and super-comfortable, and the tub was exactly what I’d been needing to relax my chronically sore muscles. A big plus that the place is like a small museum with lots to look at. We spent our first evening just looking around to avoid getting out in the rain. Also, the breakfast was so good that I would go to bed at night wondering what she had in store for us. Not exaggerating when I say that we would eat breakfast and be full for most of the day. Wendy was such a sweetheart! Her hearty food and lively conversation were perfect to start the day. She even sent me the nicest little postcard after our stay. Would definitely stay here again the next time I need a break!

We’ve stayed in a lot of bed and breakfasts in our travels. Most of them have *something* to recommend them; maybe some fabulous décor or a really memorable breakfast The Kate Shepard House is one of the few that has everything going for it. This spectacular Mobile mansion oozes Victorian charm. Wendy and Bill are the consummate hosts; not only were they gracious towards us, but they were especially welcoming to our elderly and beloved canine child. Wendy’s breakfasts can easily be described as gourmet, and the stories about the treasure trove of Confederate papers in the attic made me want to run around and get me some yankees. The true mark of a bed & breakfast is whether we’d want to come back and stay there. Not only would we stay at the Kate Shepard house again, but we’d probably organize a trip around staying here again.

I was sent to Mobile for a convention and everything was booked out. We called the B&B and they were so kind with accommodating the three of us travelers. We are so lucky we found this jewel. The house its self is beautiful and the food was wonderful. Everyone was so nice(guests included) and they did a great job making everyone feel at home. There was even a cute little dog there to greet you at the door. The walk to down town is about 45 minutes, but the neighborhood was so beautiful that it didn’t even matter.

Loved staying in this B&B. Temperature was cool despite the heat outside(sometimes can be a problem in an older house). Bed was comfy. Linens were top notch. Central location and charming, knowledgeable hostess. My fave part of the stay was breakfast… OJ, Coffee, spoon buscits atop strawberry jam, egg soufflé, fresh fruit… my daughter and I felt like queens.

For us, Kate Shepard House was a perfect B&B experience. The 1891 house is a treasure, beautifully decorated and lovingly maintained. Wendy is an ideal hostess, present when needed but absent when you want privacy. She prepared wonderful breakfasts, and she accompanied them with the fascinating story of the historical documents she and her husband found in the attic. Very highly recommended!
