I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. This is by far one of the worst«Indian» or Nepali restaurants I have ate at. For the quality of food and service it is way overpriced. Also if you don’t like something that you ordered, guess what? You have to pay for it even though it tastes horrible.

Passing through town & Unilocal did me right again. Very tasty! Samoras, chicken saag, & cheese saag were fantastic. The presentation was nice, too. BYOB. Ambience could use some work, but the food was 5⁄5.

We ordered veg momos and they were delicious. Food was served hot and fresh. Veg thali was simple. Veg chowmein was on the blander side. Customer service was disappointing.

Love the food here! Yummy! Fired rice is delicious but careful, one plate can feed an army! I wish the Samosas where baked instead of fried but they are still delicious! The Tandoori Salmon is to die for!

I guess I am ignorant because I don’t know the difference between Nepalese and Indian food cuz that food looked, smelled and tasted like Indian food to me. Overall the quality is good. Not a huge variety for the lunch buffet but good nonetheless.

The lunch buffet was really good! Which was a delight because all of the Indian buffets I’ve had in the past were awful. But their food was great! Usually there’s something on a buffet I don’t like but I love everything on it to my surprise! Definitely a must try.

We went for Sunday lunch — had the buffet. Friends have recommended this place several times but I was unsure of Indian food. I’ve never had Indian food & wasn’t sure I would enjoy. I was unsure of what anything was on the buffet — it had labels, but since I’ve never had Indian food, I had no idea, so I just got a little of everything & everything was FABULOUS! Seriously, there wasn’t anything on the buffet that I didn’t try & enjoy. Can’t wait to go back!

I’m no expert in Nepalese or Indian food. I got the mild fish curry tonight(salmon). The amount of fish was great for the price. It wasn’t quite as hot(temp) as I wish. Flavor was great. I’ve had their lamb biryani before, which was also good. Service was good. Menu was much longer than what you find on the website. I think the ambient music was 2x as loud as it should have been. Compared to Taste of India on Airport, I consider this restaurant superior. I look forward to coming for the buffet some day.

This is one of the best Indian/Nepalese restaurants I have been too. The spice blend is perfect and very authentic. I stopped by here when I was in town for business. You get great quantity for such a great price. I wish I lived near Alabama because this restaurant is so good.

Love this place. Their food is amazing! I’ve been here several times since discovering it. If you’ve never had Nepalese food before, try to make it to their lunch buffet so you can sample different things. My favorite things on their menu is vegetable samosa, chicken tikka masala, paneer, and goat curry. But I don’t think you can really go wrong with anything on their menu. There have been a few things that I’ve ordered at the recommendation of the server that either I wasn’t too fond of or just wasn’t to my liking. But to each his own.

I am definitely not one for buffets. But this place surprised me. Most people are probably thinking what I was going into this place. An Indian food buffet? This should be interesting. Total shocker! The food was fresh. The waitstaff was fast and polite. Great food and very reasonable prices.

Great lunch buffet. Highly recommend. Good food choices, good price, fast service. The décor is basic, but I go for the great food.

My first time trying Indian food and I was very pleased! I will definitely go there again. The service wasn’t great(waitress seemed grumpy) but I still have the place 5 stars because the food was amazing!

This place is delicious. I preferred the Makhani chicken and it met my expectations. That with the garlic naan was a explosion of flavors. Im definitely coming back.

We absolutely loved the food! I don’t like spicy, but chicken tikka masala with rice and garlic bread was soooo delicious! The portions are good size too!

Small restaurant but very authentic. Very nice server that was very willing to help us order. I had lamb vindaloo and my husband had shrimp vindaloo. I also ordered some kind of homemade cheese dish that had a tomato type curry base. It is hard to let people know how spicy you want your dish. You can go from mild to hot. Now I like spicy but I don’t want a burn. My husband got medium and he said it was perfect. I told her between medium and hot but made the mistake of questioning myself later and said I was afraid it wouldn’t be spicy enough. Soooo my fault it was a little too hot… Delicious and so flavorful but just a tad too hot. I brought leftovers home and enjoyed them the next day and it didn’t seem so hot then. We also got a side of garlic naan. You can’t go wrong there! It was really good. Next time I think I will ask for some hummus or something as I think that would be nice. Booths had a few tears in the seats and I don’t think mine had any cushion at all so it seemed I was sitting low or my table was too high. I don’t think they have updated the décor for years and it just needs a facelift. I am not dying to go back but we certainly may.

Yak the Kathmandu Kitchen came highly recommended by my doctor who grew up in India. It is in the Food Champs shopping strip by McConnell Auto and behind Checkers. They serve a buffet at lunch or you can order off the menu. Friendly staff and we are usually seated pretty quickly. That day they served palek paneer(paneer cheese cubes in creamed spinach), aaloo mattar, dal(lentils), vegetable korma, naan, cabbage stir fry, chicken curry(on another visit, they had goat curry), crispy vegetable pakoras, chicken tandoori, chicken tikka masala, steamed rice & vegetable biryani. I started with cucumber slices and mixed the mint & tamarind sauces for dipping. Then a plate of everything I wanted and watermelon for dessert. Gulab Jamun is a traditional Indian dessert — spongy milky balls soaked in rose scented syrup(not my favorite). Since then, I’ve introduced 4 people from my downtown office to the Yak and they loved it. So now we go to the Yak once or twice a month; more frequent if they were closer to our office. Thank you for the tip, Dr Gupta!

I love their food and the service was great! The greatest part about this place is that it is byob! This place is perfect for a group of friends hanging out for awhile and don’t want to spend a lot on alcohol.

My husband once worked with a man from India who turned him onto Indian food. For a few years, he always wanted to go eat Indian food, and I really didn’t get what all the fuss was about. We weren’t hitting the right places. The spice was always there(poor Kyle got the brunt of that at a UYE), but the flavors just didn’t keep me coming back. After the first time we tried Yak, I completely understood the cravings. The food here is SOOO good! Particularly, the curry chicken and the tikka masala are addictive. I could go and eat just those two things, but of course, I have to grab a little naan, dipping sauce, veggies, rice and noodles. The buffet is perfect for someone who likes a variety, or someone who’s trying Indian food for the first time. The pans are small, so they’re always bringing out fresh dishes. If you know exactly what you want, no worries, they also have a menu you can order from. For $ 10 per person, this place is a real bargain. If you check in on Unilocal or Facebook, you get a discount!
