Friendly service, garden-like atmosphere, delicious sandwiches, excellent prices. It reminds me of having lunch at grandma’s. My fave: Charlie on a roll

Love Brighter Side! Friendly staff. Great food. The eating area is full of neat old eclectic things to look at. There’s seating outside with umbrellas. The atmosphere is like nothing else in Modesto. When I crave a good sandwich I go have an Erin at Brighter Side. They are cash only, FYI.

This place is a gem. Great sandwiches for a reasonable price. They don’t skimp on the cream cheese. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

the building itself feels like it has been around since modesto’s inception. farm theme. nice seating area out back with some bamboo. casual friendly service. menu is simple, which isn’t a bad thing. ham and turkey sandwich was pretty good. ham thin sliced and lettuce shredded, which i like. everything tasted fresh. the roll didn’t have much taste itself and was too thick for the sandwich.

I came to the Brighter Side out of curiosity and I am not over exaggerating when I say that it was the best experience I’ve ever had in a sandwich shop! I wasnt aware that they didn’t accept visa cards and since I was in a hurry and had no cash, the man at the register gave me my sandwich with out hesitation and told me to come back and pay the next day. It wasn’t just the service that was incredible but also the food! I ordered the«Nickolas» and it was to die for! I am definitely coming back!

A Modesto classic. A friend of mine brought me here when we were in high school. I loved it then, & I still love it now. Healthy & fresh. Avocado & sprouts for days. And starting at $ 4.70? Geez. Since I’ve been living in San Francisco for the last 20 plus years, where the sandwich average is $ 8 to $ 12 bucks, this feels practically free. The converted gas station. It’s pretty cool. The sunlight coming in through the 2 walls of windows is fantastic when it’s sunny out. And there’s a wood burning stove for the chilly days. This being Modesto, you can take full advantage of the patio about 9 months out of the year. They do great soups & salads, too. The Soup, of course, is made from scratch. All in all, this is a great place for lunch. Something I look forward to when I’m in town. 4 stars.

Love the ambiance here, it’s cozy in winter with wood stove and beautiful the rest of the year too. We often sit outside and enjoy the shade and resident kitty. My favorite is the Genora sandwich with roast beef, avocado and cheese. Excellent salads too! I love how fresh everything is and how friendly everyone is too!

Holy moly, I love this place. If I lived in Modesto, I’d be here WAY more often. The only sandwich I’ve had is the Judee; I’m always tempted to try the others, but my heart belongs to Judee! The outside patio has great ambience for lunch, and is within quick driving/walking distance downtown. Just make sure you bring cash, as they don’t accept cards here.

Worth the maze that you take as you order the food, and pay. The seating and patio areas are unique and very inviting. Now… The food. I had the Christine with added Ham sandwich which had the perfect amount of sprouts avocado cream cheese and tomatoes on it… Unlike other spots where just two slices of avocado is placed. Needed more ham though… –1 star. Anyways, this sandwich spot is a must try, bread was soft and sandwich was unique and tasty. Can’t wait to go there again.

Such a cute little place! Visiting for business and wanted a good sandwich. Got the Anne’s with turkey and it was delicious! This place is cash only and I didn’t have it. The man was so sweet and told me to come back later in the day or tomorrow to pay. Of course I did and I will be returning!

Great place for guilt-free sandwiches or salad. One thing I really appreciate here besides the friendly customer service, is the bread is always so incredibly soft; nothing like a bite of stale bread to kill your sandwich mood. Never happens here! The only disappointing part is cash only; one of the reasons I don’t go too often. I never have cash, great prices, though. Their hours are also limited but that’s understandable for a sandwich lunch shop.

The Brighter Side is a great salad and sandwich joint situated in an old converted gas station. This is a slice of Americana and it just happens to also serve healthy and fresh food. The ordering process is a tad unique. You have to walk into what essentially is the kitchen and write your order on either a 3×5 card or a paper bag, if you’re taking it togo. All sandwiches have great names and go from super simple to more complex. I ordered the Dean, which is ham, avocado, cream cheese, tomato, and sprouts with a touch of mayo on whole wheat bread. Let me just say, sprouts are awesome and I never get them. This will change. The sandwich was very enjoyable, but for my taste the combination of avocado and cream cheese is a bit too creamy. I would get some red onion or maybe even pickles to cut through the richness next time. Aside from that, it was one solid sandwich. As a side note, I have spotted a Hollywood celebrity enjoying his meal and that almost made me nostalgic for Los Angeles. All things aside, come on by and grab a sandwich. Just remember to place your order correctly.
