I recently had the opportunity to participate in a touring/tasting of the growing iconic distillery that was created and employs from the same values, passion, and respect from a true friendship into every step of the distilling process for our drinking pleasure.(Partake in the tour for details on the story). The guides and Jimmie himself will ensure enlighten one on the processes involved providing entertainment and leaving you with a sense of nostalgia. Though young, the gin, rum(s), bourbon, and whisky(s) cut no corners and attest to a higher quality spirit. There is clean and consistent flavor. These spirits definitely are intended to be enjoyed and not simply downed to be able to talk to a pretty girl at the bar. For many reasons, I recommend you take this rare opportunity to see and sample a local business in its early stages to have a story to share for yourself.

We took the tasting tour and our guide was the Lead Stripper, Danno, who really knows his whiskey. The event team welcomed a large group of us in attendance with delicious rum tastings and gin and tonics. I highly recommend the 3 Mile Rum. Then we tasted four different whiskeys. For Scotch lovers, I cannot recommend their Peat Smoked Whiskey enough. We even bought a few special chocolates they suggested we have with our rum and whiskey at home, and the pairings were absolutely mouth watering. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about what they do. My favorite was learning about their name and also why their products are all the 91.1 proof.

DGD has it going on… and on. and on! This newly started distillery has A TON of different spirits, and there’s no end in sight! They distill bourbon, rum, gin, brandy, whiskey… ANDTHEN they make each one more special by putting different blends in different barrels AND for different time periods…(as you can tell, I am a distillery novice!). Jim and Liz read our letter to Santa and took me, the hubs, and the pops on a special behind the scenes tour of this locally started distillery. There was SOMUCH information. Jim is an EXPERT at ALL things distilling. My brain exploded. BUT before it did, I learned that Do Good has the largest distillery equipment on the West Coast(according to Liz), they make wine into stronger booze(brandy), and most importantly, Jim crawls into the smallest little hole on the side of his distilling thing to clean it thoroughly for my drinking enjoyment. :) They offer frequent tours/tastings of the facility. The tasting room is adorable. And I love that they re-purposed so many materials to make this special little room. The booze itself is remarkable considering they’re so «young.» We were able to try some blends that have only been maturing a few months and have already developed so much flavor. If you are interested in checking it out for yourself, best to check on their Facebook page(and soon Unilocal!) for the up-to-dates regarding these events. The branding is adorable. I had to score a little souvenir to take with back to frigid Chi-town. I will have to contact their distributor to see when Binny’s will be carrying this Cali brand. Needless to say, coming home for the holidays in Modesto is becoming more, and more awesome!
