I ate there when it first opened may years ago and hated the food AND the service, now… I decided to give it another chance and my rice was cold and not fully cooked, my margarita was nasty, my shrimp was soggy and not fully cooked… worst $ 85 I ever spent!

Great place for a fast dinner with a large selection of items. Steak, fish, chicken, and some nice stir fry dishes. Service is usually quick and most are friendly. You can also have your lunch or dinner in the bar if the dining room is full. Just seems a little louder there. It’s the place to go for a variety of food. Forgot to mention that Asian Fusion is great here too. Can handle large groups.

I like the Elephant Bar chain… and this one is pretty good … my favorite on is in SF. views of the bay. make up for any normal issue with food service and drinks… perhaps the calming waters play a role in this

2014 Unilocal365CHALLENGE — 72⁄365 Bridgette was our waitress and she was wonderful. We were out of town and stopped in since everything in Modesto closes before 9pm. We were there until after closing and didn’t feel pressured to leave. All of the food was delicious. I even left my wallet there on accident, and the Manager Kelly had no problem holding on to it till 11:30p when I came back.

Had our first great E Bar experience after multiple failed attempts in several different locations. Even though we did encounter a food problem, our server and the manager Kelly handled it perfectly. We are super forgiving people and liked that they acknowledged us… That’s what we would expect as customers!!!

After my husband knocked down his blue moon drink and broke the tall glass everywhere on the table, all the waiters and waitresses tended to us with great service. This is has a very nice atmosphere and its a great place to go to for anniversaries or a get together for families including children. I am looking forward to go back soon!

Food is good. That’s about all I can say about this place. The last time we were here, my party had one elderly woman and one disabled man. They did NOTHING to sympathize with the fact that we required a table, not a booth. The only thing they did was put a chair at the end of the booth… that’s it. Not to mention our disabled member was uncomfortably shoved up against a rather obnoxiously loud and large party of high school kids. Last time we were here, we were told they did not take reservations, only first come first serve. When we arrived here last week, we asked for a table and were told all their tables were reserved for a large party(which ended up being that large party of extremely loud high school students… 25 or so if you can believe it). Not only that, the hostess told us that people can reserve months in advance… really?! Our waiter was okay. The waitress that brought us our food the whole time was way more attentive then our actual waiter. Not my favorite place to come to, especially disappointed in the fact that they did not accommodate our party.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the Elephant bar in Modesto. We walked right in to be greeted by friendly staff and a clean establishment 1:30pm on a Sunday. We sat immediately and had a attentive server all through our meal. The meal was as to be expected for a place with such an extensive menu. when you go to a chain like this, or Chili’s or Bennigans or whatever… the menu has a bazillion items… this is not fine dining. But, you hope that your meal is done well, correctly, and has a decent flavor for the price. That comes to you in a timely manner is also to be expected. let’s keep it real. So, I had the Mahi sandwich… the steam made the meat drip a little but bread was fresh and fish done well. Black Cheery Mohito… Aces. Kid had pork rib basket and licked the bones clean so… thumbs up there. Mom had garlic shrimp and pasta. Large portion. She said little heavy on garlic(I could actually see the minced pieces) but otherwise, was very tasty and done properly. Pomegranate mohito… Aces. Until I feel otherwise, which is unlikely, I would like to recommend The Elephant bar and grill in Modesto to you. Lord knows, good places in Modesto are hard to come by;)

I’ve dined here more times than I can count and enjoy their food most of the time. Being a large restaurant it’s easy for them to make mistakes but they always rectify the problem. My favorites are the Crispy Teriyaki Chicken, Smokehouse, Philly Cheese steak, and tomato basil soup. If you’re a picky eater just tell your server what you want and the kitchen staff will try and accomodate you. That’s a huge plus. The menu is big so be sure to take your time looking it over. Service can be quite dodgy and I’ve learned which servers to avoid over the years. The few excellent servers I prefer are always friendly and attentive.

The beer mugs were super cold, icy cold to be exact. Here in Modesto it’s a million degrees outside so this suited me perfectly. The waitress however wasn’t the most pleasant but at this point, I’m extremely satisfied with my beer! I ordered the Parmesan crusted chicken that came with your typical spaghetti noodle. Not impressed pretty much sums it up. Noodles were watered down, as far as the chicken goes, when I say it was crusted, it was super crusted. Crunchy at times. I thought they had more to offer on the menu but it was extremely limited.

I love the food here. The chicken is very moist and hella yummy. Oooh the Mac n. Cheese was so good. Elephant bar can make something that seems sooo simple an turn that mother out. The waiter Paul was the best too. If your going to this place see if Paul is there because yknow you’ll get guaranteed great service.

Another great lunch at the Elephant, this time with a blind 88 year old woman with sore gums and painful teeth. She had heard that the ribs were soft and tender so wanted to try them. We did and, to our surprise, she was right. St. Louis style ribs are generally not as tender or flavorful, to me, as baby back ribs. But these were remarkably tender and cooked perfectly so the fat was gone and the meat did fall off the bone. Lots of new things on the menu, adding to their already abundant variety set to satisfy even the fussiest diner. Wife had the lettuce wrap and it was excellent, so much so that she had a mini-dessert of a won ton sundae which was also good. I had the French dip which was perfect with fat-less meat and a soft bun. The au jus was oily and thick, so was not so great. See if they have any different dip for that sandwich. The salads were wet, so much so that if you forked a bunch of salad to dip into the dressing the dressing would not stick. Nice portions, but terribly wet. They make their own ranch, thousand island and Italian dressings, so I opted for Italian and ranch. The Italian was not very good, too thick and gooey. We had a great server, Sarah E. who was very patient, accommodating and had a light sense of humor. Parked the walker for us and was attentive throughout. A good experience.

I had such good memories of the Elephant Bar growing up, that I decided to take my family there. I was so disappointed with the staff and especially the food. We came in with our daughter and the host seated us in a corner, behind the server station, and gave us a dirty look leaving the kids menu for us. A server came up to us and we weren’t ready yet so they had us sit there for 30 mins without even a drink. Finally someone came up to us and we ordered. We found dirt on all our veggies, they didn’t even take the time to wash their food and just served it! We tried to wave someone down, but they ignored us. I tried the BBQ combo plate(Shrimp, Chicken, and Ribs) and the food was over cooked and dry. The shrimp tasted fishy and like crap. But the worst part was when I found cooked plastic in my little chilli bowl! there was a server at the server station and I tried talking to her about it and she walked away saying she had to take someones order. My girlfriend ordered the teriyaki chicken with brown rice. The rice was cold and undercooked. I’m not a picky person, I’ll turn a blind eye to rude servers if the food is really good. But, that wasn’t even the case here. This use to be my favorite place when I was a kid, but I feel really bad that I brought my family here. We will never go here again.

I haven’t been to an Elephant bar chain in a long time and decided to check it out. I came during lunch, our waitress was very nice and we were seated in this cool booth that looked like we were on a ship. We ordered the garlic bread… it was alright, could have been toasted a littler longer and the marinara dipping sauce that it came with tasted a bit bland, like something out of the can. I ordered the chicken marsala lunch plate, a PERFECT amount for lunch, I ate the whole plate and felt satisfied. It tasted pretty good too for not being an Italian restaurant. The parmesan crusted chicken with shrimp and linguine was pretty good but not the best. I tried their cobb salad and I love how they presented it. I am a firm believer in eating with your eyes first. Because it had meat, it was substantial and you would not leave feeling hungry. The bleu cheese dressing was wonderful. Decent food for a decent price.

Love love love this place! So glad it’s right down the street from mi casa as well. I appreciate that they remain consistent with their«worldly» dishes and bring some flavors I’d never experienced before. Mostly Asian fusion, they offer up some very creative dishes along with some American classics such as burgers and sandwiches. The staff are always very nice and attentive as well. To me this is always a win!

Nave to give 5 stars due to the excellently prepared shanks. Have eaten them in many places and these were great. Service was the best we’ve ever had here. The waitress was very helpful. 3thumbs up

Okay– So I finally figured out the secret to not overdoing it at Elephant Bar. You’ve got to go with a group of people– and only order a couple appetizers– the reason being– if you take a look at the calorie count of every single item on the menu at Elephant Bar– you would probably have eaten enough calories for the week in one sitting if you ordered a full on meal. So– We’re in Modesto– Why? You ask. probably because how most people find themselves there. they’ve got friends or family out there, bought a cheap house out there, or perhaps have never been before(which was my case…). or maybe they were just lucky enough to have been born and raised, from big beautiful Modesto! Any how… they were only a few options for a semi-decent place to grab some grub and cocktails around this little town off the 99 at 9pm at night – so we wound up here. If you’ve been to one Elephant Bar, luckily, you’ve been to them all, they do uphold the same image, the same cleanliness and the same guidelines, it seems, at all their chains. Our waitress was a sweetheart– she handled our hungry, demanding table of five perfectly fine and got everybody their drinks and appetizers without any problems. They have some great mixed drinks and were willing to make any kind of drink concoction they had the ingredients for– I think I may be a fan of this chain– at least while I’m in the 209. but shhh. don’t tell any one. ;-)

An update and a wonderful one. My boyfriend and I were served by James. After taking our orders he refilled drink without asking, we didn’t even see him see that we were out of our respective drinks — just like magic they showed up! I can only assume James is made of magic somehow. I got the Mahi Mahi Sandwich and my boyfriend got the Bacon Cheeseburger — both with Sweet potato fries as a side. And we got a sweet potato appetizer. There are never too many sweet potatoes. Both sandwiches were to die for and reasonably priced at 10 $ per sandwich. The stawberry lemonade was delicious. We ended up getting the cookie ice cream sandwich they offer and, oh god, so good. It has caramel ice cream instead of vanilla and it just made the meal. My boyfriend insisted we go back again and I can’t argue with that.
