Old Mill Cafe

We came in for breakfast and everything was cooked perfectly. When the waitress came with my omelette she asked if we needed anything else, I told her a to-​go box. I could tell they knew most of the older customers. We will be back, I have to try there clam chowder.

We’ve been customers of Old Mill since their previous location on Needham. We’ve always enjoyed our meal. I work a few blocks away from the restaurant and on a rare occasion will order a ‘to go’ order. For the most part they’ve been good. I went this morning and wanted just the basics: Bacon (crispy), Eggs, hashbrown & toast (not healthy, I know, but craving) In placing my phone order, I was told to hold a couple of times. As I continued with my order, I could tell they were in the process of perhaps training someone due to their repeating every item & telling that person ‘press crispy bacon’. When I arrived to pick up my food, it was already bagged on the cashier counter. I paid my $ 10.79 & off to my office I went. When I opened my food container, I was disappointed to see my bacon practically raw. The eggs cold & hash were under cooked as well. The toast was probably the only salvageable item. I chose to go ahead and eat what I purchased. Although I took some time stripping the raw portions off the bacon strips. Needless to say, that ‘to go’ order left little to be desired and completely deserves a 1 star rating. At this time, I’m willing to give them the benifit of doubt as we all have our bad days. At some point I’ll try a to go order again but that won’t be anytime soon.

Went there this pass Sunday because a friend recommended it. I must say it was just like home cooking. My boyfriend have the pork chops and eggs, he siad it was 2 thumbs up, but i have spoiled him when it come to the way I cook potatos.
The service was great! They checked on us sevreal times this place has a friendly neigbor feel it. I will be going there again.

First timer here, decided to come here since it had great reviews.
The bf ordered egg Benedict, he said it was ok. He’s had better.
I ordered chili verse omelette and it was delicious. I enjoyed it. I didn’t have to add on any other spices like hot sauce to make it better. Must try. I also ordered a plain waffle… Meh. It’s ok. Nothing special about it.
Our server Barbara was great. But what I didn’t like was the host. Before we could even sit down in our booth she asked what we wanted to drink. like damn girllll… Hold your horse tail. But other than that it was good. Will come back for that omelette.

It took awhile to be waited on then the waitress brought burned toast to a person in our party. I asked the waitress to please bring some lighter toast, she took it and replaced it. We had to ask for cream for the coffee, then we had to ask for a refill. At first we were the only table in the restaurant so there was no excuse for our waitress not to take our order. Then when she brought our bill she said «you have water and everything «and left the bill. It took me awhile when I realized this is not a minority friendly restaurant. Walked in with high expectations re: the quality and quantity of food. Surely I was not disappointed, the restaurant was very dated but I loved it as I felt it was part of it’s charm, the service was beyond friendly, warm and inviting better service than their other location the waffle shop in Manteca. The food was plentiful and reasonably priced, truly a hidden gem in the downtown area. The only reason why I did not give it a 5star review is because if a personal pet peeve… They put the check in front of you before you finish or even ask for it!

Went to this place a couple years ago with my wife and will never go back. I got some chorizo eggs with potatoes and after 2 bites a huge spider crawled out of my plate. No joke. Right from underneath my potatoes. The waitress saw me get up and asked what’s wrong and saw the spider crawling And killed it. She apologized and said she’d get me a new plate. I figured this was an isolated incident given how much this came recommended. Food was good minus the side of spider. When we got the check the cashier asked how our meal was and I said aside from the spider fine. She said «yes I heard how embarrassing. That’ll be $ 21» I can’t believe they didn’t comp my meal or give me a free coffee or something. Pretty pathetic. I’ll never go back.

1^st time trying it out. Best decision made. We will definitely be coming again. The food is absolutely delicious. Portions are huge.

My husband and I were in the area and came here based on the Unilocal reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was courteous and attentive. We were seated immediately with coffee and menus only seconds behind. The food was very good and the portions were more than generous. Prices were reasonable for the amount and quality of food served. We will definitely be back.

I had forgotten how great Old Mill Café is! We had the corned beef & hash and the chile verde with eggs & tortillas. You want biscuits and gravy ?? They serve it in a bowl! Large biscuit with tons of gravy All homemade.
Our waitress was super friendly and we received our food quickly with plenty of hot coffee!
My children have been raised going to the Old Mill Café from it’s small beginnings on 9^th St. to its larger location still on 9^th St.
Plenty of seating with a large room for big parties. Great value affordable prices with generous portions

I found the best breakfast place in town, finally ! Our server was great, nice cheerful and friendly! The place is amazing, nice atmosphere, clean seating and the food is great! Food portion is big for a great price !! I order the waffle combo with eggs and bacon! Omg their bacon is so delicious ! Definitely coming back

My husband and I frequently have breakfast here. Service is fast and food is always perfect and your coffee cup is always full!

My boyfriend and I recently came in for breakfast after hearing that the food here was great. As we were walking in, a woman leaving advised us to save our time and leave now, as we would probably be ignored. We pressed on and waited for a server to seat us. Five minutes went by with employees passing us, making eye contact without saying a word, and the sign clearly said to wait to be seated, but after another 5 minutes passed, we quietly sad down at the bar. We browsed the menu and waited for another 15 minutes there and were not spoken to by a single server. Although I did hear two of them having a conversation condemning us for seating ourselves. We realized that we weren’t going to be served so we got up and left; no one said a word. I’m not sure how everyone knows whether or not the food is any food. I’m still trying to figure out how any of you managed to get a table.

Chile Verde omelet is delicious. Good place to eat breakfast. Lots of choices and a special daily. Good coffee and good service. Fluffy pancakes. Clean, warm and inviting. Not crowded either. Prices are right on for the quality and portion size. Been here several times. Will be back :)

Hands down my favorite breakfast place. Chicken fried steak is my favorite. I recommend this place to everyone. Decent prices for a good amount of food.

Had the special scramble with eggs over easy. Really yummy and the waitress kept the coffee coming.

This review is not for the food. I didn’t even get the opportunity to taste it.
We walked in and were seated immediately. Took a few minutes to skim over the menu and decided on two simple breakfast entrees (omelette and corned beef with hash). The place was not incredibly busy and there were plenty of tables.
25+ minutes AFTER taking our order, still no food and our waitress had not checked in once to apologize or even acknowledge the long wait. I then saw a couple that was seated after us receive their food, so we stopped a waitress to inquire about our order.
Said waitress then taps on every other waitresses shoulder asking who was covering our table instead of just going to the kitchen to check on our food. After several miserable minutes, one of the waitresses (not ours) finally says that she’ll check. Can you guess what happened next? …She didn’t. So we left. I dropped two dollars on the table to cover the iced tea that actually made it to the table.
Service is substandard. Interior is outdated and unkempt. Go not eat somewhere else.

Plenty of seating, staff is quick and food showed up just as fast.
French toast combo was very good. Also try the Ham and egg with potatoes.

What can I say this place deserves its 5 stars. The food is great the staff is nice and it has a good vibe right when you walk in. They give you a large potion of food so your full when you leave, and you still will have some food left for later. The waiters are nice and always ready to help you or get you what you need. The place was great I’ll eat there again.

This is our second time eating here and the food was incredible! The coffee is awesome. The food tastes as good as it looks. Buttery tasting pancakes and syrup, big chunks of sausage in the gravy just like grandma’s! The classic bacon and eggs were phenomenal. The staff is friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.
