I would love to give more stars but cannot. I have been to skewers several times. The first visit two years ago was best. However since then there has been a decline. They raised their prices, guess they had too. Such a striking difference though. I order either the chicken or beef kabob. Last several times the chicken has been dry! The beef okay but fatty. The bread, not sure of name is always dry! Never eat. Ordered a a shrimp appetizer and it came with the meal… Too late! Dirt and dust on the blinds and window ledge. Server slow to refill water. So, may not go back.

Eaten here 10+ times, rarely by my own choice — I married into a middle eastern family so Skewers is a go-to when the group is indecisive. The food is consistently decent and the décor is adequate. 3 star review(which I think is generous) because: 1. The middle eastern staff pander to middle eastern people only. If you’re the only non-middle eastern person in the group, the middle eastern staff will make you feel it. Other members of the staff don’t care and just do their job. 2. The parking is bad. 12 spots in the lot and it’s clear the employees use it as well. God forbid people can’t see your gaudy silver Mercedes. But it’s downtown, so you can’t expect a lot, but the nearest parking garage is 1.5 blocks away. 4. Don’t come here for a nightcap. The«nightlife» crowd here are cliquey regulars that will fulfill every laughable stereotype.

Great for lunch, chicken kabobs are very good. Decent pricing, not a lot of parking come early or late lunch.

This was our first time here and we will definitely be back. I’m a pretty picky eater so this was really out on a limb for me, but I loved it. I had the lemon garlic chicken kabob and it was delicious. My husband had the surf and turf and the steak and shrimp were both amazing. We sat out on the patio which was really nice. Our server(wish I remembered his name) was super friendly and helpful. We also had the sampler and he explained what everything was and how to eat it ect. Absolutely great service which was appreciated. We will be back.

Skewers is a place I can say that I’ve tried and I will not be returning to. It’s not a place that I will one day be like«oh, let’s go back to Skewers!» or a place that I will crave. If I am in the mood for Mediterranean food, I would much rather go to Me Mo’s in Modesto; the food is better. On the positive side, they did seat is rather quickly, and I had an episode with a wine glass(it spontaneously combusted) and they were quick to seat us elsewhere and refill a different wine glass. This glass of wine was a lot more full than the previous one I had. The place has a nice vibe and from what I’ve read, is also a hookah bar; I did not partake. Although, I did see what«hookah bar» entails… Three hookahs set up on three bar tables. The food was mediocre, at best. We got the skew sampler as an appetizer(check in offer for appetizer up to $ 8 or $ 8 off an appetizer), from what I remember, they did not have an appetizer less that $ 8.99. The chicken and shrimp were okay, the two pieces of steak I had were both cold and one was mostly fat. My fiancé rates his food(he got some sort of steak kabob plate) at a two. He states that it was very bland and also made the comment that«the small Mediterranean place(Me Mo’s) we go to is significantly better». Because I wasn’t fond of the appetizer, and every entrée was similar, I decided to get the Cesar salad. The salad was good, but I did not come to a Mediterranean restaurant for a Cesar salad. In addition, I asked if I could get the chicken on the salad plain instead of the saffron chicken and the waitress stated that there wasn’t a way to do that, as it comes already marinated. My last qualm with Skewer’s was the awkward belly dancer… She was cute at first, but quite honestly, didn’t know when to call it quits. People are trying to enjoy a nice dinner with their family/friends/significant other… They don’t want to be constantly interrupted by a provocatively dressed belly dancer.

With a name like Skewers, I expected a type of Mediterranean food you would expect at a shopping mall’s food court, I’m glad I was wrong and I was pleasantly surprised. We were able to score a free appetizer(with purchase of two entrees) of up to $ 8. My coworker and I split the eggplant dip, and I ordered the joojeh kebob, basically boneless chicken with saffron. I really enjoyed the rice and chicken, and my dish came with some tasty carrots and tomato. The free bread was meh, but with everything else, I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was super good. I actually came to the restaurant not that hungry, but after seeing the menu and the food, I devoured my plate. Service was awesome too, our waiter checked on us without bothering, and graciously offered help on the menu, and shared with us the drink and dessert menu without being overly pushy. That’s the way to do it, the best kind of balance!

This is my second visit 2 skewers. The first visit was very good, this one not so much. Decided on the garlic saffron chicken, which was the same i had on my first visit, but this time they ommitted the lemon garlic sauce. Thought there was something missing. Waitress claimed it was on the bottom but it was only dry rice. Would have been nice if they’d offered some type of compensation.. .they didn’t seem interested.

The Garlic Chicken Skewers were mouth watering and the rice was fluffy and flavorful. The staff was wonderful and our waitress was on point for everything we needed. We will be back again very soon! Loved it!!!

My husband and I ate here today for lunch for the first time, and I must say I was thoroughly impressed!!! We are new to the area and wanted something different for our weekly date. The garlic saffron chicken was absolutely amazing! My husband, who’s a skeptic and hates trying new things, loved every bit of his meal.(He had the Lula and shish kabob combo, for reference.) That in itself was reasons for he and I to return. The service was top-notch, with VERY knowledgeable staff. Thanks Skewers for giving another great destination to add to our repertoire in the Central Valley…

Food was great, the bar was less than expected and although we were looking forward to the belly dancing experience, it seemed more like a strip tease while we were eating and was a bit odd… I’d eat there again but not go to the bar first and not during the time the dancer is there. Had the shish and salmon kabob for entrees and the meatballs for appetizers, all delicious. Décor and wait staff were pleasant and professional.

Our first time here and we had reservations on Valentine’s Day for dinner. They had a prefix menu, prior to confirming our reservations I spoke with someone and I wanted to know what they will be serving so she told me there was the gold menu which was for $ 40 per person and platinum choice at $ 50 included with our dinner were choice of drink but when we got there, there was a change of menu so choice of drink was not included after all! Anyhow so we went with the platinum choice, my husband had the surf n turf and I had Sultani dish, our veggies were undercooked and meat was dry. Quality wasn’t that great but customer service was great and I’m glad My husband enjoyed his surf n turf, I didn’t so much. Especially with our bill costing $ 130. I barley touched my dinner so had to end up taking it to go and my left overs end up going to my dog because I didn’t enjoy my dinner as much as I would have liked to! Would I visit this place again on a prefix menu? definitely NO not worth the money.

Food is good. Service not so much. I came to order some food to go. Shish kabob plate. Nothing special nothing extra. Waited about five minutes just to order my food. Paid and waited. My cc receipt said 1147 and yes it was Ina Friday. Restaurant wasn’t too crowded but I just sat and waited. Finally I ask what’s going on with my order she says it’s coming up. All the meanwhile people who order and sat are eating already. Most Mediterranean places I gave been to give u a small amount of hummus with your order. Not this place. All u get is pita bread. I called and asked if this is normal. She said yes.

I haven’t been here for years but I am so glad I went last night! The only reason I haven’t been here for so long is because I don’t get out to Modesto much. I absolutely love the food here. I’ve tried all of the kabobs and they are all so good!!! Last night, I also tried the roasted lamb shank with Lima bean rice. Wow! I don’t eat lamb much but I would absolutely order this again! It was so flavorful and tender. There isn’t anything I tried that was not good to me. This is one of my favorite places! They have great deals on . You can also check in on Unilocal for a free appetizer up to $ 8. However, if you are using the coupon from , you can’t use the free Unilocal appetizer at the same time. It’s okay though because it’s worth it!

Skewers is a great place to go to for a quick lunch in downtown Modesto. The chicken skewers are amazing, so is the Hummus. Definitely worth a check in if looking for healthy and quick lunch.

Best hookah in the 209 by far! Thank you Matt for that. My kabobs were super dry though and my yogurt with shallots was extremely watery. I’ve had kabobs here that were catered and they were amazing but dining in house was not a good experience. Service was great.

Aahh yeah, I loves me some meat cooked on sticks! I was really excited to find that Skewers was within walking distance of our hotel for Dinner and on a Saturday evening managed to get seated without reservations, on the patio so we could hear every train go by but seated nonetheless and the area is actually very nice. The staff we very welcoming and the food didn’t disappoint either. We were brought Bread as soon as we were seated along with our drinks. The menu is varied and perfect for my carb load before the Marathon the following day as most of the dishes come with Rice. I had the Skewers Special( ) — $ 17.99 while Hubby had the Surf and Turf( ) — $ 25.99. Using the Unilocal Check In we also got the Yogurt Cucumber Dip( ) — $ 6.99. The food was delicious, definitely some of the best Kabobs we have had since moving to California. The meat was juicy and flavored nicely with some lightly seasoned grilled Vegetables and ample portions of Rice. The portions were so large we ended up having to take a lot back to the hotel with us. All the time we were dining the staff made sure we well catered for and enjoying our food which given we the only ones out on the patio made us feel like they did really care to come out and check, too many places wouldn’t bother. I’m just sad this place is so far from where we live because I’m still thinking about our meal 4 weeks later. *TIP* Check In on the Unilocal app for $ 8 off of the price of an Appetizer.
