«A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.» ~Lous Nizer OK, one caveat before I give these guys a glowing review — don’t be in a hurry. If you need your floors done next week, it’s not going to happen and you wouldn’t want it to. Wyomissing Valley Craftsmen is a father and son team that does exceptional work in their pursuit of finding the best possible sourced materials, and installation of hardwood flooring. They purchase their planks from an Amish sawmill company in Lancaster County so they are able to pass along great prices to their customers. We recently bought a small, lovely house as a temporary dwelling. We wanted a place that would be low maintenance, and didn’t require a lot of renovation, but the dated vinyl floor and toxic carpet needed to go almost immediately. During our research and price shopping, we considered inexpensive cork flooring, for one room, that would have cost twice what we have paid to have ¾ inch, handcrafted oak floors installed in our kitchen, hallway a n d bedrooms. Our house already had hardwood floors in many areas, and they were able to match the stain perfectly, and made sure the boards run in line so they look like they were all installed at the same time. For the environmentally conscientious, the stain and finish they use is a product that was developed by the University of Vermont, and is made from a base product of cheese. There is virtually no chemical odor and no nasty formaldehyde. When they are finished for the day, there is no trace of construction taking place. They keep their work space spotless, and all you will come home to is a smaller pile of wood than you did the previous day.
