What a pleasant surprise for lunch in a small town! Great diverse menu to suit several people in our party with odd tastes. Prices were quite low for the quality and quantity of food delivered. Waitress was very nice and attentive. We will be back next time we are in the area. Be aware they only serve 6a to 2−3p.

The food here is excellent. The atmosphere is that of a small-town diner, and it has character. The building is over 100 years old(as are most buildings in downtown Momence) and its wonderfully restored. It really is the best place in town to get food. The only reason I have it 4 starts is because it has limited hours, because it’s purely a breakfast and lunch place. I suggest getting one of their excellent skillets. Oh, and did I mention out was reasonably priced and quick service?

There ain’t much in Momence unless you like local taverns, fast food joints or gas station food. Yanni’s is literally an oasis in the middle of a culinary desert. Stopped in for lunch two days in a row. Yanni’s is on a side street off of one of those typically depressed downstate Illinois towns. Located in a brick building with a shuttered hardware store on one side and some kind of kitsch place on the other. Place was long and narrow and looked pretty clean. Their menu has the standard breakfast items, sandwiches and hot plates. They throw in several specials every day and their menu also has some mexican items. The first day I had a chicken burrito with rice and beans. They offered me the option of chips and salsa instead of soup so I took that. Chips were hot out of the fryer and tasted fantastic, salsa was obviously made in a blender but it was tasty and packed the right amount of heat. Chicken burrito was large and stuffed, I only needed half of this to fill me up. Rice and beans were the real deal and a treat to eat. Next day I decided to try a breakfast. Cheese and sausage omlette with hashed browns and wheat toast. Omlette was large and done just right, I hate it when they brown the eggs. Plenty of cheese and sausage plus the omlette itself was properly fluffy. Hashed browns were very good(you’d be surprised how many places flunk the hash brown test). Both these dishes were under 10 bucks. Waitresses were quick and friendly. This is one place I would go out of my way for some good cooking.
