Great cheeses, reasonable prices. A very popular shop with loads of variety and SAMPLES! Plus wine, beer, sausages and other packaged food products including Swiss chocolate. I will be stopping every time I go through Monroe in future.

I grew up in Monroe and remember when my dad would stop by to pick up some cheese curds or my favorite, brick cheese. I never really appreciated it until I moved to the Twin Cities. I can’t find brick anywhere around here and cheese curds in MN are not nearly as good. Whenever I’m in town I have to stop by.

Best place to buy cheese… just the best selection and highest quality product. I love sampling the cheeses and yes! buying more than I need to bring home and share with my family. As local as it gets… when in Green County remember to stop by and bring home some of the best Cheeses in the world…

I am a frequent visitor here. It is the best cheese store and the service from the owner and staff is excellent. They have a very wide selection of cheeses with many European imports at affordable prices.

Best cheese shop we came across in the area. Incredible selection. Great prices. And the staff was the warmest of the bunch. Loved all the samples they had throughout the store too. Really helped along our selection process. We actually wish we had bought more here. We didn’t know all the other cheese shops were going to be busts.

This is without question the best cheese store in Wisconsin. A big variety of offerings, both of their own manufacture at Roth and of other purveyors around the state, and the world for that matter. Whatever cheese type you are seeking, you will undoubtedly find a good example here. Alp & Dell has been our family’s primary cheese provider for years now, and we have never been disappointed, and we are significant cheeseheads. If you have a question about a particular type, just ask, and samples are always available. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable, perhaps because of their proximity to the heart of Wisconsin’s artisanal cheese community. Whether you are a tourist or a local, this shop is worth a stop.

I love this store! Owner Tony Zgraggen is a delightful host, he went out of his way to explain what, of the nearly 100 varieties of cheese the store offers, are made right there and what I could expect from each one. I brought home a selection of cheeses to try, and one is better than the last one. This is a terrific cheese store, in a cheese community where cheese stores abound, and is worth your time to find it!

CHEESE. cheese. ChEeSe. YUMMMMMMM!!! When some out-of-town friends came to visit Madison for the first time, the wife and I decided to give them a stereotypical Wisconsin experience. After going on a brewery tour, we took them to Alp & Dell because, well, what’s more Wisconsin than beer and cheese? It was the first time my wife and I had gone, also, and we were not disappointed. There were at least 12 different types of cheese to taste, and MANY more varieties on the shelves waiting to be bought and savored at home. From Gruyère with beer cheese to chocolate cheese, and everything normal in between, Alp & Dell is a cheese-lovers paradise. Oh, and if you ask really nicely, they’ll usually cut you a little taste of whatever cheese(s) they’re currently packaging for sale. Don’t forget to check out the discount bins for super-amazing deals on orphan cheeses. They also sell some great Wisconsin– and cheese-themed gifts and knickknacks, as well as some great cooking utensils and beers, so it really is a one-stop cheese-shop.

Delicious, cheap cheese, short drive from the Minhas brewery. If you’re driving through Monroe, stop by here and the brewery(in reverse order) and you’ll DEFINITELY have a good time. I know I’m repeating someone else’s review, but: OMGCHOCOLATECHEESE!

I would stop my review at: Chocolate Cheese – enough said… but then Unilocalers wouldn’t know that the selection and prices cannot be beat. The Cheese Gods smiled when Alp and Dell opened its doors.

This is a very nice cheese shop. Like others have stated, hitting the bargain bins is the way to go. We got quite an assortment of cheeses on our mini adventure. One cannot venture north of the Cheddar Curtain without returning with a boat load of cheese, so this is certainly a stop for any cheese lover visiting the Green County area. We got everything from Cheese curds to Limburger and then some. They also offer tours of their factory, but you need to call ahead to secure a spot.

Is a three hour drive worth it for some cheese? Most definitely! I try to go there when I visit my Aunt’s farm because they have the best cheese selection ever and it is CHEAP. They also have various candies, summer sausages, and real honey and maple syrup but I strictly stick to the cheese. Of course their staff knows anything and everything about cheese which is a good thing becasue I normally leave that place with 3 or 4 cheeses that I’ve never heard of. They also make some custom made options like cheddar with horseradish and muenster with mushrooms. I try to limit myself to 10 minutes because it is the only way I won’t spend a mortgage payment there.

I am told that this place is the best in Green County, which itself is a cheese standout among Wisconsin cheese-producing regions. So although I have nothing to which to compare it, I can say that this is a GREAT place to come for cheese. The bargain bins should have almost everything for which you might be looking, although perhaps not in the size that you have in mind. I wanted a bunch of little pieces of various cheeses to try, and the bargain bins supplied all but one, including Dill Havarti, Peppadew Havarti, Gruyère, and Fontina(both Swedish– AND Italian-style!). The regular cheese prices are entirely reasonable; stuff in the bargain bins is a steal! Peppadew havarti: A– Gruyère: C+, strangely bland Swedish-style Fontina: B+ Dill havarti: B, great on a turkey sandwich Smoked gouda: B-, the wedge that I brought home was sort of rough-tasting and a big disappointment compared to the awesome stuff that I sampled in the store Van Gogh: A, SO smooth and creamy, just slightly sweet and nutty, one of the best cheeses I’ve ever had. I ate an entire wedge of this stuff in two days and I have never been more than a cheese nibbler. If I ever make another trip to Monroe, I will be sure to stop in to get some Van Gogh and to try a few others.

This store is right up the hill from my grandparents house, so this is the place my family would always hit up when in the market for some delicious Wisconsin cheese. Made fresh on site, this the store to not only buy your cheese(any kind you can imagine), but also observe how the cheese is made in the observation gallery. Also available? Cheese paraphernalia… cheese hats, ties, all you can handle cheese product. Cheeseheads are crazy…

They fulfill all of my cheese needs and fantasies. Alp and Dell would be the one and only place to buy cheese in all of Green County. I have friends, old roommates, co-workers that request cheese when I come up to the area and I go straight here. My favorites include: aged cheddar(5 year), butter kase, smoked gouda, cheese curds and the Van Gogh cheese. Mmm… wish I had some right now!
