Stopped here during our annual holiday drive from Atlanta to Dallas. Thank you Unilocal for helping me find it! Excellent food at an unbeatable price. For 11 $ a plate you get your choice of a meat(rotates, we had a choice of fried chicken, fried pork chop, smothered pork chop and pigs feet), bread(hot water corn bread, regular cornbread or a dinner roll), starch(for us it was mashed potatoes or rice), and 2 veggies(for us it was sweet potatoes, lima beans, okra and tomatoes or green beans.) Portions are super generous! Between my mom and I we tried fried chicken, fried pork chop, mashed potatoes, all three breads and all four sides. Honestly everything was delicious. Someone mentioned feeling like the sweet potatoes were canned, I did not get that feeling at all. Great sweet potatoes and okra. Fried Chicken and pork chop were both excellent. I ate allllll the meat off of the bones. This was the first time I’ve had hot water cornbread, which is like fried cornbread, and I liked it a lot! The service was excellent and everyone was really nice and welcoming. We told them we were from Atlanta and they said they were happy to meet us. They also let my mom get two breads so we could try to hot water cornbread after mentioning Wed never had it. Our waitress kept our drinks filled and gave us to-go cups for them. As others have said, mildly«sketchy» area, some people were getting put into a police van across the street when we got there. But honestly, Idgaf and would go to a lot of suspect places for some delicious food. Couldn’t ask for anything else! Perfect stop so close to the freeway. Definitely go!

Still sitting here in awe at the fried chicken I just ate. Never have I had such flavorful and juicy chicken! Service is fast and friendly. They greet every single person too. And the food?! Oh my this food… my grandmother used to make Cole slaw like they make. After she passed when I was a child, I tried so many different places in my 4+ decades on Earth and nothing compared. Til now. I live about 2 hours from Big Mommas and was only driving thru while meeting a client but I can guarantee I’ll return again and again. And did I mention you’ll leave FULL, probably with food leftover for a late snack and only spend like 10 dollars? Outstanding!!!

Big Momma’s Fine Foods delivers consistent fantastic, food-coma inducing, finger-licking delicious Southern home-cooking for under $ 10 a plate! It’s a hole-in-the-wall joint located just a few minutes south of I-20 in a rather sketchy neighborhood, but don’t let the burglar bars turn you away from some of the best home-cooked Southern food fare served up by the friendliest people. Be sure to order the BEST fried chicken with corn on the cob, mac-n-cheese, and hot water corn bread. The breading on the chicken was well-seasoned and fried to a crispy perfection on the outside, with juicy, flavor-packed meat on the inside. This is what soul food fried chicken is all about and I wanted to devour it all! Next up for lunch were the fall off the bone, tender, moist bbq ribs, mac-n-cheese, baked beans, and hot water cornbread. I got lucky and got 3 big ribs instead of the usual 2 ribs. I dove into the ribs cavewoman style and abandoned my modern-day utensils. This is how ribs were meant to be eaten– gotta get down and dirty! These ribs were off the hook and left me wanting more! I could probably finish the whole rack of ribs in one sitting, followed by instantaneous food coma. The sides, although good, weren’t nearly as spectacular as the main entrees, but more like side characters or extras in a movie– the fillers that help complete the whole story line. Hot water cornbread was ok but that’s only because I’ve been spoiled by authentic soul food back home in Houston. For dessert, I had the spice cake, which was really moist, tender, sweet and had the right amount of spices(cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, all spice). It was a great ending to a great lunch! Big Momma’s is yet another local favorite lunch spot for when I am craving Southern home-cooking that doesn’t come from a chain restaurant. Go do yourself and your tastebuds a favor now! Come bask in the aroma and savor the taste of Big Momma’s Fine Foods– you will experience an out of this world, foodie-tastic realm!

Awesome home cooking. A meat and three sides for less than $ 11. I chose chicken breast, they gave me two. More food than I could eat, all was great. Great lunch place.

One of the best«home» cooked meals I have ever had in my life. Everyone was friendly and wanted to make sure we had enough to eat. It’s a great local place to eat! Highly Recommended!

This is a zero-frills, local stop with a well-worth-it, long, but quickly moving line forming around noon, at least today on a Thursday. Seriously awesome fried chicken and steak tips,(the menu changes every day), and sweet, rich, perfectly soft sweet potatoes/yams. Each main dish is served with two sides(great mashed potatoes too), and bread: your choice between corn bread, a fresh looking roll, or something fried. Get the fried chicken and the yams and enjoy, how I imagine sweet sauce drenched wings were invented, as the sauce threatens to make the crispy fried chicken a little soggy, but gives it the most divine taste out there. As you wait in line, a friendly, smiling waitress takes your drink order, and when you get to the front, your order is doled out at the counter in generous portions by some friendly servers, who seem like they may all be extended family. There are plenty of tables with plastic tablecloths to sit at, a variety of locals, visiting grungy Unilocalers, unpretentious business lunching foodies, and a real community vibe here. Our group of four got filling mains, drinks, and desserts all for under $ 50. Can’t wait to return with a growling belly.

As your driving down I 20 in Monroe, La, do not miss Big Mommas fried chicken. This place is 2 minutes off the road and well worth the stop. Fried chicken is easily THE best I have ever had. The sides are all home cooking and were all just supporting actors to the star of the show. Not in maybe the best part of town, but don’t worry about it… the employees will greet you with a smile and go out of their way to make sure you leave happy! Really nice people and can’t wait to go back.

I had fried chicken, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and a soda… lot of food right ?!! The chicken was the best I’ve had in a long time. It was crucnhy and hot. The sweet potatoes tasted liked the ones from the can at the grocery store. The mashed potatoes were ok but the cornbread was great ! The restauraunt itself is ehhhh. Its really compact and little ratchet but it will do. All in all its average. I dont; think its a must have however.

Standing in line I hear, «I heard he was smoking weed… or crack.» But you know what, who cares what you hear in line b/c the food is pretty wickedly awesome. It has that home cook finish to it – super hearty with a very healthy size serving. When I went on a Wednesday, they have a few main entrees: fried chicken or lasagna. I ordered the lasagna that was packed with real ground meat(although a bit salty). What separates their lasagna from other places is this hearty feel — most places have that Taco Bell meat, grade F meat(?). Do note that they serve one size plate: one entrée, two sides, and cornbread/bread. I also ordered corn and string beans — both of which have that home cook feel. Although nothing special, they did compliment the meal, and the string beans has a nice little kick, kind of like a hint of crawfish boil spice taste, which I like. Overall, this is a real home cook meal that is better than Cracker Barrel and the like. It may not have all the options of other big name restaurants and it may be located in the ghettos but the food is worth the experience. Enjoy.

I recently ate here. The ribs were awesome. You get really nice size portions for your money, and the service was good as well. Try this out if you like home cooking.
