Picked up a prepacked quart of fudge swirl. It had ice crystals. A little expensive to get ice crystals. Very disappointed!

We finally went for a stroll for our first tasting of ice cream by Mike. Fresh homemade ice cream in Hackensack? Yay! I tried coconut and strawberry. He coconut had intense coconutty flavor. The strawberry tasted fresh but had a bit of tartness to it, which I didn’t mind. I like that the ice cream doesn’t taste artificial and is not overly sweet. He also offers interesting flavors too. My hubby got the fig ice cream, which he enjoyed. My sis got the banana ice cream and she enjoyed it a lot. He gave generous scoops of ice cream. I enjoyed my cone as I walked all the way home. Mike’s ice cream shop is a great addition to Main Street. I hope he will make it here.

Showed up to Dr Mikes 6 minutes after closing and was super let down BUT lucky for me, the scooper dude was real down to earth and let us in. I’m gonna call him tom cuz he looked a lot like Tom cruise. Tom entertained us as well as served exceptional ice cream(I got chocolate. naturally) shoutout to u tom thanks for heating up my ice cream.

Fantastic flavors and extremely generous portions. If you love gourmet ice cream, you will love this place. It is small, and you get what is there for the day for flavors(though I think chocolate lace is a staple), but there is plenty of outside seating and I’m a huge fan of seasonal flavors!

The ice cream is not spectacular here. They have pretty average ice cream which is over priced, and the thing that really turned me off is that the cones are stale. We keep going here on a fri or a weekend night, and they are closed at least an hour and a half earlier than their specified hours. This has happened twice in a row and we will not be returning, save your money and time and just go to baskin robbins right down the street.

Very tasty pumpkin ice cream but they only had 8 flavors. Very limited choices. There was only one person working and it was slow going. He was nice but on a sunny Sunday afternoon they should of had more help. Also, get rid of some of the candy and invest in more freezers so you can offer more flavors.

One of our favorites The chocolate lace ice cream and pistachio here are the standouts. I’m on the pistachio bandwagon myself, but they don’t always have it. Tiny place, just a few flavors but all good. We are fortunate in the northeast to have such great ice cream all over new england. This is definitely a major stop on our ice cream tour!

Dozen flavors of in house ice cream with all fresh ingredients and both inside and outside dining. Don’t expect palatial views as it’s a strip-mall on the side of a heavily trafficked road but if you let your taste buds do the driving you’ll soon realize that the surroundings drip away into cream and sugar!

When I crave local ice cream while I am at work, its definitely this place! I love the chocolate lace. I have been a fan for YEARS. I have never tried anything else so I do not know about the quality or taste regarding other flavors. I am hooked! I do agree with a previous reader though… Ferris Farm’s in Newtown on 302 is awesome! I also agree with that same previous reader that Rich Farm’s on 67 in Oxford is just the best. Thankfully I live 5 minutes from Rich Farms.

Don’t even know about their ice cream anymore — last time i was there the cream was so thick i couldn’t eat it. I stopped going totally because the place was so filthy. I mean, the place is really, really dirty. Sorry. Ferris in Newtown is amazing !!

Dr. Mike’s is my favorite! I live in California, but all year long I dream about visiting CT to get some ice cream. The portions are extremely generous and the quality is excellent! My Christmas wish this year is to have some peppermint ice cream from Dr. Mike’s.

Fantastic rich chocolate ice cream. Only 3 stars because we went Friday night at 7:40-after dinner. The«open» sign was off and the chairs were stacked on top of the tables. They don’t close until 8. WTF This is also the only place I have ever been to where they tell you they can’t put the sprinkles on the ice cream for you, you have to do it yourself??? So, they give you your cone and a cup with sprinkles on the side, which you then have to lift with the spoon and put on your kids’ cone yourself-just weird!!! Name is also confusing. Awning says B-Sweet Treats. Sign signs Dr Mikes.

It breaks my heart to give this place just 3 stars. I came here many, many times as a kid — my dad would always take us to «the doctor» when we wanted a treat. I went back yesterday when I was in CT. It was just average. I had a cup that was half pistachio nut and half oreo. The oreo was pretty good — it was too blended so there weren’t enough chunks, but it was passable. The pistachio nut was way too sweet. full of mint and other flavors and it was just overwhelming. I used to remember this place as the Pinnacle of Ice Cream — but it has regressed into a pile of overly sweet cream. Still good, but no longer special.(FYI — Cash only)

Not as good as the bethel location but still some of the best ice cream in the area. Strawberry is delicious, rich, creamy, so good. Rt 25 in monroe doesn’t make hanging around and enjoying your ice cream as nice as the bethel location. I will always be a Dr mikes bethel fan. I have been going there for 20 years.

Not very good, however expensive. Bethel is better. But Ferris Farms rt. 302 in Newtown is better than both. And then a place that blows all away is Rich Farms rt. 67 in Southbury. Well worth the drive.

I’ve always enjoyed Dr. Mikes in Bethel, and have had a few good cones here in the past, but given the price(nearly $ 4 for a small cup with whipped cream) and what seems to be a decline in quality, I don’t see myself coming back here anytime soon. In terms of quality, today we noticed ice crystals on the ice cream in the freezer that they serve from. A quick taste further confirmed the lack of freshness. Their plastic spoons bent and twisted under the moderate pressure involved with eating out of a cup. I asked the girl behind the counter if she had any better spoons and she laughed acknowledging how bad they were. My recommendation is to either head to the Bethel location or go to the creamery in Newtown which had just as good ice cream, more variety, better atmosphere, and much much better prices($ 1.79 for their small size). I’m giving one star for the fact that they at least make fresh whipped cream.

Dr Mike’s in Munroe lacks the charm of Dr Mike’s in Bethel. In Munroe, it’s on a busy Rt 25 without the grassy outdoor seating(though there IS outdoor seating in Munroe). They DO have chocolate lace and any variety of other flavors on a given day. Stop if you’re craving ice cream and are in the area. Don’t make a special trip, though.
