We had lunch here on a Sunday back in December. Service was solid and the food was really good. I had the maple bacon jam burger(it was named something along those lines) and it was incredible — added some Emmi Roth cheese to it and the burger just melted in your mouth. We also had the Mac and Cheese — it was very, very rich. Almost too rich If that’s even possible — but good. They have a Bloody Mary bar on Sunday as well. My husband tried the pulled pork and brisket. We smoke a lot of our own meat so have pretty high standards for smoked food — it was pretty good. We weren’t blown away, but would definitely eat it again. Overall a solid new place in Monroe that is worth checking out.

Have been in a couple times. Quality is inconsistent. Ribs are ok, rely too much on the sauce, smoke flavor in the meat itself is weak. Same with the brisket. Place on the east side of the square does it much better. Good service, servings are plentiful.

Stopped in for lunch today and ended up ordering extra to go. Good bbq and sides in downtown Monroe.

Green County Smokeshack has good homemade BBQ plus very attentive and friendly staff. The atmosphere’s décor is also perfect for the country BBQ theme — I especially liked the repurposed windmill they’ve strung from the ceiling. Living in Iowa I’ve become spoiled when it comes to BBQ. But with limited BBQ options in this Southern Wisconsin setting, Green County Smokeshack is off to a great start and has potential to be the best homemade midwest-style BBQ in Southern Wisconsin once they hit their stride. One large complaint though — the tables and especially the children’s booster seat and high chair all need a massive scrub-down. The fabric buckle on the high chair was dirty enough that it was stiff as dry leather.

Love the food here. Unique and amazing smokey tastes. Please work on the service now. Get a drink order within the first 5 minutes of sitting. Also, the tables are way too small for such great food. Looking forward to the improvements.

Potential Potential! My first time to dine and my wife’s second. She warned me that they were learning as they go. That is exactly the case. But let us not get ahead of ourselves. The food here is wonderful. And the aroma that this restaurant adds to the Monroe Square is delightful. We had their Mac and cheese for an appetizer just to try it. My advice? Add pulled pork to it and make it a meal. You will not regret it! I had the brisket and pulled pork combo with pork and beans and beer cheese soup as sides. I wanted to sample as many items as possible and found non disappointing. Oh did I mention my combo came with cornbread? Mmmmmm! Ok so all is not perfect. The staff seemed eager but very inefficient. They still need time to develop. Drinks MUST be served sooner and more often. I hope people will remain steadfast and help them develop as I believe this place will be a home run.
