we had a wedding at Paula’s two weeks ago. the place is filthy, no hot water, rude owners, fruit flies everywhere! garbage in kitchen we had to remove. just don’t use the place. and if you write a review on her fb page expect it to be taken down and she will argue with you. the place is a dump. do not do private parties there! if I could have rated this a zero I would have. where is the health department on this one!!!

This is the bullet point list of why I don’t recommend this place as a wedding venue, and why you need to realize how much work goes into making it look like a wedding venue. The unprofessional owners claim to have hosted tons of weddings, but their actions speak otherwise, and it takes a lot of work to make the place look wedding-like. –During the tour to see the venue and plan things out before the wedding, they said we can’t bring any outside non-alcoholic beverages for kids(or anyone) because it is against the Washington State Liquor Control Board(WSLCB) rules, and they are«so strict.» So we’d have to purchase everything from them. An inquiry to WSLCB was very quickly answered saying this is not true, they monitor liquor, and that’s it. I get it if you want to say in your contract that ALL beverages must be purchased from the venue so you can make the money from it, but to lie and say that’s a WSLCB rule was just the first of many questionable things that came out of the owner’s mouths. –During the tour they explained that space heaters would be brought out while setting up, then removed before guests arrived, for safety, and that the space would stay warm with people inside. –During the tour, the wedding planner moves some tables around to figure out configuration and Mr. Paula got really weird about it. She told him she’d move them back, and he was still really weird. Sorry dude, why do you think we’re here, after the place is rented, if we’re not trying to figure this out in advance? –On the day of the wedding there were yellow jackets swarming the front entrance that all guests had to come through. Paula said Mr. Paula would come spray. He did. While saying, «I don’t know what you want me to do.» and«they don’t sting this time of year.» Dude, there is clearly a nest that we can’t enter the venue without disturbing… I think that’s something you should be aware of and eradicate before everyone arrives. –Wedding planner is decorating inside, wants to hang a couple things from the rafters and is told she can’t climb the ladder because of liability. Mr. Paula says he’ll do it for her after he’s done setting up the projector(that they said would be set up beforehand because they have had TONS of weddings and it’s no big deal!). Wedding planner returns later and the ladder is being removed by Mr. Paula, she asks if he’ll still hang these things for her. He LOSES his shit and starts yelling at her, saying she wasn’t ready before, and now the tables have all been moved. Says ‘you people have been complaining since you got here! I had to spray for bees, I had to set up this projector!!!’ Wowza, dude, aren’t you getting paid for this? But then he turns to my mom and say«weren’t you complaining about the heat earlier?!» Her response(did I mention they refused to turn on the heat like they’d said they would) was«Yes! Because it’s freaking freezing in here!» His behavior was shocking, and completely unwarranted. No one was making demands, and no requests were outside of the ordinary for setting up a wedding. I don’t know if the wedding planner’s remark that they’d be getting a great review was the turning point for him, but he left after that major display of assholery and returned later a much friendlier person. –Paula loudly announced that«one of the mom’s is complaining about the heat.» That was my mom, lady, and you should probably try to be more professional. –Paula took pictures of the venue once we had it decorated and all the black tablecloths covered. Just one more reminder, if you see those photos… you need to factor in a crew of friends and rented linens for things to look that good. –Don’t pick a venue without doing your homework. It’s sometimes easier to get a place with no hosts, get a banquet license, and give everyone free beer and wine without weird owners on the premise watching and judging your every move, because things had to be rented anyway.

I was very interested to suddenly hear about a wine and beer bar in Monroe… beer being the most important part to me. I am a huge craft beer fan, beer geek, hop head, whatever you want to call it. I know my places, I travel all over for beer! So yes, I travelled to the far reaches of Monroe, well it’s not that far, but it was dark and foggy and I missed my turn onto 168th. Anyway, we arrived in the parking lot a little after 6, knowing that brewers night started at 6. The visiting brewery was Brickyard, which is a nice little brewery out of Woodinville, I’ve been there a couple of times. I recognized Paula’s immediately, as memories of years back popped into my head, we stopped in here at some point and bought some delicious Paula’s Pepper Jelly. When you walk inside here the front is kind of a retail set up with the jellies, all delicious. The bar is further in, and then even further in is the Slaughterhouse Lounge which has music and comedy. I suspect Paula is a bit new to the beer/bar scene. The brewers night was a bit disorganized with a mix up on the tap lines that was shortly rectified. I heard they had a large amount of craft bottled beer so I was excited to see that, but I wasn’t impressed. A lot of items had sold out tags on them and I really don’t consider Mikes, Corona, or Shock Top to be craft beer. They had 8 taps, 3 with Brickyard, one of Redhooks Pumpkin Porter, Angry Orchard and a couple Ninkasi. Brickyard is def the best of the bunch. Food wise the selection is minimal. Chili for $ 5 and a cheese and meat plate for an pricey $ 12.50. What really was amazing were the pretzels… they were baked in the garlic pepper jelly, brown sugar etc. Seriously they are CRACK!!! I have to come back just for these suckers. So to sum up… Paula is super nice, she is trying hard to make her place a success. It’s got some good aspects, just needs a bit of work in my opinion.

This was our first time here, and we were pleasantly surprised! Right away, we were offered a tour of the facilities, which are unique and interesting. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They give you delicious pretzels with your beer. Monroe needs more small businesses like this one. The Red Robin-type chains out here definitely outnumber places like this, and it’s a shame. The beer wasn’t super cheap, and they didn’t have an IPA on tap at the time we visited, but they made up for it with quiet outdoor spaces. We had a good time watching the hummingbirds outside and listening to music. I can see how it would be difficult to attract customers in the winter, due to the semi cave-like atmosphere inside, but it’s a great summer stop. We will definitely be back.
