Once named Northeast Louisiana University, and also once represented in athletic competitions by the mascot and moniker of Indians. NLU, under great pressure by the NCAA was forced to drop their long-time battle cry and change their name, to well, anything, just anything but Indians. So, they did change it to just anything: Warhawks. To this day, nobody knows what a Warhawk is. And then a few years after the mascot debacle, NLU became ULM: University of Louisiana Monroe. Thus further completing the complete alienation of all alumni, friends, and associates of the university up and to that point. It is a solid academic institution to this very day with a gorgeous campus now accentuated with new and remodeled buildings dedicated to learning and the acts, thereof. It also has a picturesque bayou and a perennial National Championship-contending men’s and women’s waterski team. They have many wonderful programs and avenues to study here and a long and bright future. They just have no history here. No. Not anymore.
