I cannot recommend Brock and LA Custom Grill Islands enough. I had a partially finished bbq island that needed the grill, tile and vents. I wanted a completed island but I had no idea where to start. Brock spoke with me many times and told me exactly what I needed and didn’t need. After deciding on a grill and tile, Brock and his team came out and finished the job on time and the completed product is even better than I expected. Brock even gave me a lesson on how to work my new natural gas grill once it was installed. I found Brock to be very honest and professional and because of his amazing work, he will be the only person I allow to work on my bbq island. If you want a bbq island or just need yours updated, the only call you should make is to Brock.

I recently had my new grill island installed and I can’t say enough good things about Brock and his company. I opted to go with a «finish it yourself» island, mostly because I wanted the satisfaction of having some of my own labor go into the final product but also because it made good financial sense for me to go that route. Needless to say I have a lot of work to do now, but anyone who is DIY savvy and can do things like basic tiling and stone ledger work can have a very nice finished product without it costing an arm and a leg. Brock is happy to provide this type of unfinished product and gives lots of helpful advice on how to finish it.
The entire process was very smooth. I engaged Brock via email with some rough ideas of what I wanted and he gave me a ballpark quote. Eventually when I started getting serious about ordering an island he came by my house to discuss details and take measurements. After seeing my yard he gave me a couple suggestions that I hadn’t even considered. That’s exactly why you hire a pro instead of doing it all yourself! A couple days later I had 3-​D color renderings of the island and my back patio and yard to show me exactly what it would look like when installed. The final product was clearly a quality piece of workmanship that exceeded my expectations.
I have to say I did shop around, and Brock wasn’t the cheapest by any means. But when you’re buying what is very likely a permanent fixture that will be on your back patio for many years and will also be a center for entertaining your guests, you have to look beyond price. Brock does all of the «little things» that his competitors don’t — things like building in a toe-​kick on the cooking side, finishing the underside of cantilevered counter sections instead of just leaving them plain backerboard, and so on. I am very happy I selected LA Custom Grill Islands and would highly recommend them!

I just got my island installed. It looks great, all my friends complimented on the quality. Brock is a great guy because he explains everything without upselling. He is patient and you can reach him anytime. I’ve called some bbq island places that have prefab islands and they were rude didn’t want to help and for their quote you weren’t saving that much money. Brock and his crew did a fantastic job for a reasonable price. Honestly if you can’t spend a little more for a island that will be in your backyard for years to come then hold off til you can. Good thing is I wanted to switch some sear burners around and he is going to come by after the fact to switch it. Great company and people. Will recommend to family and friends. Tip: get a sear burner they work awesome.

My wife and I recently decided to take a chance and build a custom bbq in our front courtyard and after speaking with a few companies around town, we decided to meet with Brock from LA CUSTOM GRILL ISLANDS. And while I know it sounds incredibly cliché, THANK GOD WE DID.
Our courtyard is very small and we were worried that we would not have much room for a BBQ. We were also very demanding on wanting it to match our terracotta tiles and even have the stucco mach the stucco to our house.
Now, whenever you purchase something, you feel entitled to nit pick every little detail, but when Brock delivered our island/​grill we were AMAZED. It was PERFECT. It looked custom built. Everything we could have hoped for.
But as it so often happens, some things are just to good to be true, because when Brock and his team when to place it in the corner of our front porch (where a small staircase wall meets the main house) we quickly discovered that the walls of our home were far from straight. It’s from the 1930s and, not surprisingly, has settled over time, leaving us with wobbly walls making it impossible to have the side of the grill fit snuggly against the side of the house — and ultimately, leaving us with about a 1 inch gap where the bbq was supposed to blend seamlessly into the wall.
Now, the BBQ Brock built looked PERFECT and even I couldn’t blame him for the fact that the walls of my house simple did not provide a smooth 90 degree angle. Brock had initially told me it would take about ‘an hour’ to place the bbq and do any touch-​up work on the tiles and stucco. Instead he and his team stayed at my home for 5 HOURS as they figured out a way to build a support base for the island, level it off, and were then able to fill in the 1 inch gap with stucco and tiles.
We can not say enough about our experience with Brock and LA Custom Grills. It’s one thing to BUILD a custom grill it’s another to take the time to CUSTOM INSTALL IT for the customer and not leave until it looks better than you could have asked for.
If you’re thinking about building an island you could not find a better, more dedicated and professional company out there than LA Custom Grill.

Brock spent many hours helping us design our island and delivered a superior product on time and within budget. We highly recommend ordering a custom grill island from Brock, as well as using the people Brock has on his home page for gas and granite installation (exemplary workmanship). I must admit that we had not planned on spending as much money as we did on our grill island, but with that said I think we are going to get our monies worth. We checked out options at Barbecues Galore, Lowe’s etc. and then we called Brock. He did not pressure us which I truly appreciate as I can’t stand a pushy sales person. He was open to our sink idea which ended up being more difficult than any of us imagined but is exactly what we wanted. Our grill island is beautiful! Brock delivered exactly what he promised. If you enjoy entertaining outside and you want something that not only looks great but also is extremely practical, give Brock a call and start the journey on your own customized island. Wow! Brock is such a delight, and he clearly takes pride in his work. We could not be happier with our custom island grill. Based on just the two reviews on Unilocal,we decided to give him a call.
Our custom grill island was especially challenging — we were repurposing somewhat oddly shaped granite slabs that we had removed from our kitchen, and before even contacting LA Custom Grill Islands, we had already come up with our own design (using Google Sketchup). Now, a lot of people would get scared off by customers with such strong opinions about how their island should be built, but Brock was enthusiastic and offered many great ideas that really improved our initial design. The island included a very custom cutout for our existing double side power burner, and it turned out great!
The end result is stunning, and it looks as though our backyard was designed for it. I wake up in the morning and gaze out the window at the backyard and I can hardly believe it’s real. It looks amazing. Best of all, the outdoor kitchen is very functional, and we really put it to the test with 16 house guests!

Re-​doing your backyard takes project management — this was the most important part of our new outdoor living space and by far the easiest to get done. There was not one mishap, everything went as planned — that never happens when doing renovations!
We were shopping for a custom BBQ island, the majority of these are manufactured outside of California and would need to be freighted in and a crane would be needed to get it in the backyard. OUCH! LA Custom Islands builds the BBQ locally and assembles it in your backyard. The owner, Brock was very patient and helpful, coming over on a Saturday to help us pick out the stucco. We selected the tile for the top and they did a great design with the tile on the front really pulling it all together. It’s absolutely gorgeous — the centerpiece of our backyard.
I just came home to a thank you note and a new BBQ Accessory kit! These guys are fantastic!
