If you love soup and sandwiches for lunch this is a great place. We live in the area and my husband and I will often go here. This week we went for my birthday and I topped it off with a cream de menthe sundae!

I had chili and corn bread. The chili is delicous. Big Ol chunks of meat, plenty of beans, onions, cheese and more. While eating the warm corn bread, I thought I heard Barney arguing with Floyd. I bet Aunt Bee made that Walnut cake. So happy with our choice.

Nice family place for ice cream, shakes & malts. Limited selection, but offers standard and seasonal flavors for northern Michigan ice creams. Best features are authentic diner feel and friendly customer service. Cash only is most irritating factor. Closed on Sundays and by 6 pm on weekdays. Still, we make it a point to stop by when in Montague.

Friendly service! Perfectly delicious grilled tomato and cheese sandwich on artisan bread– the vegetable beef soup was amazing– like a cup of grandmas homemade pot roast!

I stop at Lipka’s every time I want a homemade and satisfying lunch. The counter up front is where I stopped for ice cream when I was young — the best and most fun in town. Head to the back and have a seat if you’re hungry; the menu is on the wall on a big chalkboard. They cater to a loyal group of locals so there are mainstays(like grilled cheese, with or without turkey or ham, chili, prescription salad) on the menu with a few seasonal and fresh sandwiches, soups, and pies thrown into the mix. The prescription salad is amazing and it’s a great size to split with someone if you wanna try one of the daily soups too. They might have blue cheese dressing on hand in the back. I always want to order a milkshake to drink after my lunch but I never do… They don’t skimp on portions, smiles, or stories here.

What a great place to have a shake or malt. Service is a little slow, but it was crowded. Ordered a grilled ham and cheese, which was very inexpensive but only so so in flavor. It came with a few pretzels which was odd to me. I would rather of had a few chips instead. Definitely check it out if you’re anywhere in the area… rumor has it’s the oldest running soda fountain in Michigan.

Like stepping back in time! The true period décor teamed with Michigans oldest operating soda fountain, this place should be on the todo list of any visitor to the area. The soup and sandwiches are good, but the real shining stars are the real sodas and malts!

Wonderful nostalgic little place — great food, the chili was outstanding, huge chocolate malts or other ice cream confections — good prices too!

loved the soup and sandwiches. We stumbled on this as it’s currently mislabeled as a drugstore still. Though trying to change that in Unilocal. Oh and the ice cream was great as well.

This is a must see gem! When I was young, my parents took me here and I have great memories of the vintage fixtures and delicious treats. Their ice cream sodas are truly memorable and reasonable, the ice cream they serve is high quality and the clientele is a mix of visitors and locals. I highly suggest you make a visit to this family owned shop and try a tasty soup, sandwich or ice cream treat at lunch time.

This place is the real deal. Old School Drug Store/Soda Fountain turned soup/sandwhich shop is wonderful. Sandwhiches are diffrent daily and are both unique and great tasting. It has been so long since I have had an old school Soda Fountain Milk Shake and this place made it perfetly. If you are in the area you have to check Lipka’s Drug Store for great food and a walk down memory lane!

Lipka’s was a real pharmacy once, but now is just a well preserved old fashioned soda fountain(cira 1940). In the back is a wonderful sandwich shop. This place is like Mayberry only better. Kids come in for sodas, adults come in for food and the mix is sweet old small town America.

We love Lipka’s Soda shop. Old fashion soda fountain. Cheap. Good ice cream and sandwiches.

As I understand it, the fate of Lipka’s Soda Fountain may be up to the fates, so I write this review in the hopes that it is not too late to generate some noise in favor of this true White Lake area fixture. I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Mr. Lipka, who was always a friendly man, good to his customers and a heck of a guy. He will be missed. I think every fond memory I have of Montague stems from Lipka’s: their sodas are, I can tell you, REAL sodas — sweet, flavorful, with a massive selection of flavors which can just as easily be made into mouth-watering malts or shakes! Combined with its authentic, one-of-a-kind early Americana architecture and wide selections of candies and collectibles, entering Lipka’s is truly like stepping back in time. I love Lipka’s wholeheartedly. It is a cherished part of my childhood that, the gods be willing, I will take my own children to someday.
